I'm actually not planning on doing this project, but I always watch your videos because of those little pearls of wisdom you pass on! Thank you so much!
Becky, words don’t do justice to how amazing you are! So many levels of expertise, so relatable, so funny, and enough self deprecation that we can see our own mistakes in yours and know that we have found a friend in you who guides us through those mistakes and renews our confidence. I always enjoy every video even though I may not own the machine or be doing the same project. You’re just that person that we can watch and come away feeling so good about the time we spent with you! While I’m not doing Candy Corn Quilt-I’m finally doing Broomhilda’s Bakery. LOL-your suggestions are right on point! I’ve been doing Kimberbell projects for about five years, and the evolution of her directions is nothing short of amazing. She’s the best in the business, I think, for her directions and creativity. I would encourage everyone with an embroidery machine with at least a 5 x 7 hoop to try Kimberbell’s background quilting designs. They not only really enhance the theme of the quilt, but make the traditional overall quilting of the quilt unnecessary. Having said that, I do stitch in the ditch around a few areas when I’m attaching the top to the backing. (Remember, when you do the background quilting, the batting is already stitched into all the blocks-even the border blocks.) The only complaint I have is that I wish Kimberbell would include the background quilting info in her quilt books and other projects where those designs can be used. Otherwise, we have to continually go back to the “Techniques” pages on the quilting designs themselves. Including them with the project info makes it all a one-stop shop! 🥰 Keep on keeping on, Becky! Every time I watch you, I feel as though I’m sitting down with an old friend ❤️❤️🥰🥰😘 Hugs, Cindi 😊
That is the most thoughtful and wonderful comment. You made my day! Thank you SO much! I'm no expert, but I just love sharing my ups and downs with my viewers and hopefully they can learn from my boo-boos to be better embroiderer's and not be afraid of their machines. You wouldn't believe the emails I get about fear of embroidery! We can ALL overcome our fears and conquer this fun hobby!
Hello, fyi, you can take alcohol wipes, cottonballs with alcohol on them, or a bottle of stamp cleaner (for rubber or acrylic stamps) that will take off the marker from the baggies then reuse over and over.
Hi Becky! Great advice - It is so important to be organized with Kimberbell's projects!! Thank you for doing this tutorial on the single and multi needle machines! You're a gem!!!
Instead of plastic bags, I use dry erase pockets to file each design after it's cut. They're reusable if a dry erase marker is used to label each pocket.
Becky I’m so excited. I have a multi needle and have not used it a lot I have been a little nervous using it. I’m glad you are using the multi needle too. I named my machine Mr. Ed.
You are the best! So professional. Really, I am serious. I have watched some who are not. I wonder if they watch their own videos before putting it out there for us to view. Your workspace is neat, pleasant to see your work areas. You have everything you need close by.
I'm taking a deep breath And getting ready to jump in. I have a 6 needle brother that I have been thinking of selling since I also have a Luminaire...this will hopefully help me make that decision! Also I am using my stash of Halloween fabrics!!
If you don't have to sell the 6 needle, I wouldn't! I personally prefer the hands-off style of the multi-needle once the program is set to stitch it all out. The Lumi is great for simple projects, but when multiple colors are necessary, I'll use the multi-needle every time. Yay for using up your scraps!!
Becky, I love your video’s. They are so informative. It would be helpful to note which fabrics get fusible woven and which pieces get heat and bond. I went through all the cuts and noted if they were appliqué pieces or background pieces. This way I knew what to put on the back of each piece of fabric. Also there are 3 blocks out of a plain orange (2..5 x 2.5) that are not listed in the fabric cutting information .
I think those orange pieces are for the pumpkins. I noticed that too. I'll be adding hnb on the back of all my fabrics - even those that are applique. My SNC will cut through it all.
Almost done with the Red White and Bloom. Just purchased the Candy Corn Quilt Shop yesterday. Looking forward to your multi-hooping video. Thank you. You have been so helpful. I now feel really comfortable with my embroidery machine.
I love watching your shows. Lots of good info. I didn't know else where to reach you but I wanted to see your video where you talk about harpies to touch up embroidery edges. Can you let me where I can find it? Thank you
I think I've just mentioned using Sharpies a couple of times. I only use them when the need arises to color in a booboo or a bobbin thread that wants to come up top.
I normally try to release at least 2-3 videos a week but if weather gets in the way and I can't turn my computer or my machines on, then I don't. I always finish, but I never put out a schedule. However, I do have a playlist for Kimberbell Embroidery Projects.
So glad you're doing this quilt Becky. I was wondering if you will be doing a video that shows how to do multiple designs in one hooping with a single needle. I just purchased a Solaris 2 and am excited to use this function. Thank you so much for all you do!!
Yes! I'll do a step-by-step for the embroidery hoops. That will give you the basics to do the headstones or any other designs you think you can color sort and do at once. :)
Hello from Nevada!! Did I mess up?!?!? I cut my fabrics this week before your show and did not allow for that extra 1/4 “ for the background quilting!! I know better and still forgot to allow for the background quilting!! What do you suggest? Love your show, Becky. I’ve been a subscriber and fan for quite a long time now. I especially love your closing remark.”Go sew something!” I tell myself that regularity when I don’t have a specific article in mind!! LOVE IT!!! Hugs, Laura June
Finding Kimberbell stabilisers in Australia is a nightmare. I can only find a Maderia Super Film and it will cost me over $30 for one roll. Is it important to use the stabiliser that Kimberbell says to use or can the wash way one do? I have read the descriptions for the Maderia and the Kimberbell and they seem the same but also that they are doing the same thing as my wash away topping.
Here's a blog post that I hope can help with alternatives. :) powertoolswiththread.com/2021/08/25/lets-get-ready-for-kimberbells-candy-corn-quilt-shoppe/
Hi there I’m from Melbourne, I highly recommend echidna sewing Rachael who I spoke to actually visited kimberbell last year just before the world went crazy.
@@jodiegrace2849 yes I’ve contacted them and they are looking into it. Nothing on their website. The person who I spoke to wasn’t sure but thought it might come in the kit and to wait and see when mine arrives. So far I only have the CD and booklet. Hopefully next week. Might go buy some baggies today and start labeling. 😊
I'm planning to do my best following you :-)). I have an assortment of Pellon stabilizers. Can you tell me what corresponds to the ones you mentioned we will need? What do we do with the embellishments? I didn't order that because I didn't know what that was. If I don't need right away, I can order them to have by the time we finish.
You absolutely WILL need the embellishments. So go ahead and get the kit. If not, your witches won't be holding anything! lol As far as stabilizers, I did a blog post. powertoolswiththread.com/2021/08/25/lets-get-ready-for-kimberbells-candy-corn-quilt-shoppe/
So...If I had a medium weight iron on sewing interfacing...I'd probably use it. Something that stabilized the fabric like a front shirt band. Please test with scraps first. If you get puckering, try two layers.
Becky would you mind clarifying what you turn up 2 times with reference to Candy corn quilt shoppe. I have a cut scan and simply appliqué. Thanks, Jenny
When you get the cut file into the SNC, click Edit Object and go to Enlarge (the box with the stretchy arrow in the corner), then click the + sign 2 times.

When they do these very large projects, the pattern with the CD is always separate from the fabric kit. That's so those with a stash can source their own fabrics if they want. Some quilt shops will carry a Quilt Kit Box from Kimberbell that comes in a official KB box and it includes a pattern book and all the fabric.

I loved mr Ed while I was a kid, I can sing the whole song
Great video, Becky, very informative.
Great intro video that circumvents possible pitfalls and gets us ready to put the pedal to the metal… since a lot of us sew fast barefoot!

You will be OK. But be prepared to rip out that fabric basting stitch if necessary. Some blocks might have narrow 1/8" seams but you should be fine.
