Performance Notes
A perfect choice for a set leading up to the dawning of a new year: one of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter’s most hopeful and uplifting marriages of music and lyrics, “Eyes Of The World” grew out of an instrumental riff the Grateful Dead played around with frequently in the early 70s, dubbed by some fans the “Tighten Up” Jam because it was somewhat reminiscent of the 60s hit single by Archie Bell & The Drells. It coalesced into an actual song that premiered in concert in early 1973 and made its recorded debut on the Dead’s Wake Of The Flood that fall. Dead & Company’s performances of “Eyes” take full advantage of the song’s potential as an improvisational vehicle, as heard in this recording’s guitar and piano interplay by John Mayer and Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge’s splendid bass solo toward the end.

Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. The inaugural tour kicked off in the fall of 2015 with two sold-out shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City and ended with two sold-out performances at the ‘Fabulous’ Forum in Inglewood, California.
Since then, the band has completed five tours, playing to more than 1.5 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Field’s all-time concert attendance record in 2017. Dead & Company’s 2018 Summer Tour ranked in the top 25 of the Top 100 Worldwide Tours and for the past two years, their Summer Tours ranked in the top 15 of the Top Global Concert Tours.

I would rather have dead music playing live then not at all. The hate by some deadheads against Dead and Co is baffling. They are playing GRATEFUL DEAD tunes! Be grateful for the music and time we have. Maybe not my favorite Eyes but hey it’s Eyes at the very least. I can’t wait for tour to be back. R.I.P. Jerry! We never forget!
you have to admit its pretty slow, tempo wise... some songs that were meant to be danced to can barely be danced to... like many of them except the ballads, and including this song... one of my favorites
I totally get it. The tempo has been kinda laughable. Sugaree has had some tempo issues but all in all I would rather have Dead and Co then nothing. Have a grateful day bro! 🤙🏻

I was there. Great show.. The dueling between Mayer and Chimenti on this and other songs that night was amazing. Mayer said he was in sync and played his best those two nights. I agree.
Oteil showing up with that big bass energy. You know that dude must’ve had the most out of this world face paint design going on in order to pull off something like that.
Indoor show, likely no face paint on a winter run but I like the way you think✌️
@@austint1987 Oh shit that was the New Years show! I was there! I forgot to look at the date! Yeah, I somewhat remember Oteil having face paint on. Was a good show, but the Shoreline one on 6/1/19 was insane and I keep remembering that one more.
