Years ago, when my mum was still alive she'd have had the same response as yours. My mates and I were into dirt track racing and we used to service my mum's car usually with a tune up from cars we were stripping. First thing she used to do was take it down the highway to find out what it would do. Usually came back with a big smile raving about the speed.. Quite funny as she looked like the stereotypical frumpy mum next door but quietly she was obsessed by speed. I think every car she had we tuned up , we were all devastated when she went, she was the second mum to a lot of my friends as well. She would love the Evo I have now.
I've recently watched this series of videos and loved them all, especially this one! It's awesome that you're able to do this for your mom. My mum is my best friend, such a funny, loving and genuine person. She doesn't have a selfish bone in her body! Honestly can't imagine living my life without her. That is a really really good idea for THIS mom, and this car. I bet that that angry v8 would burn up the flaps though. Resonator swap, double glass packs on each side, and then add flaps in the exhaust and she would love it. I bet it would refine the anger of the engine a bit too. When you get a motor dialed in right, on a high horsepower car, it usually feels like you're letting it out of a cage when you give it a lot of gas. As if by design it is being held back by not giving it the pedal, is what you're shooting for. I do strongly suggest adding the flaps, and improving the resonators. The glub blub blub glub (cam) sounds too open for her liking. Car guys would all love that sound it makes, and I do, but it's not what your mom wants. I do kind of agree with your mom, and here is why: One thing about the solstice is that it was mostly silent and nimble, in it's stock form. All it's feel, and all it's moves were effortless, planted, and precise. With a v8 in there, it's shaking around and rumbling from all that displacement on a big cam. The only way to really calm it down, will be to put it in chains and that is by muffling, baffling, and/or resonating that exhaust. Also: Because Mom, I would recommend your friend make 3 or 4 tunes. From de-tuned, up to maximum hp. Mom will want to use the de-tuned map, most of the time. Super super cool idea, well executed swap! Also, great video. Your mom is a sweetheart. You're a great person to do more and more for mom, too. Happy New Year to you all.

I think this was a terrible idea. To be honest, she didnt seem all that thrilled. I think she really enjoyed the car before, and now its just way over the top and kinda ruined. I mean yeah, a 20-30 year old man could really enjoy it, but a mom in here 50s-60's? She'll likely never drive this car. Its always gonna buck and itll be plagued with problems. LS is obviously a great motor, bot swapping them into different chassis can be a real headache. And forget about the car ever being a comfortable sports car again. What he should have done if he just had to do this, was do an F22 and S2K swap and super charge it.. It woulda been hella smooth and reliable and woulda been a super easy and cheap swap and the comfort would have remained with some nice fun. Now, the geometry and weight distribution is gonna be all off. Trust me, I did an LS Miata swap. While I had fun, it was a TERRIBLE car as a whole. Was only good for sliding and straight line driving. I think his mom would have really preferred a nice, quiet and comfortable boosted car maybe making 300-350.. F22 woulda been perfect.

He thought he was doing something nice for her, but from her view her costs on gas and othe consumabies (tires, brakes) just skyrocketed and now she has to get used to having race car levels of power and noise in what was supposed to be a fun little daily driver. Not saying it isn't cool, it's cool as hell, but way less practical for someone who might not use it to its' full potential. It's kind of like building your grandpa a gaming PC if the RAM sticks wore out twice a year.

That is a really really good idea for THIS mom, and this car. I bet that that angry v8 would burn up the flaps though. Resonator swap, double glass packs on each side, and then add flaps in the exhaust and she would love it. I bet it would refine the anger of the engine a bit too. When you get a motor dialed in right, on a high horsepower car, it usually feels like you're letting it out of a cage when you give it a lot of gas. As if by design it is being held back by not giving it the pedal, is what you're shooting for. I do strongly suggest adding the flaps, and improving the resonators. The glub blub blub glub (cam) sounds too open for her liking. Car guys would all love that sound it makes, and I do, but it's not what your mom wants.
I do kind of agree with your mom, and here is why: One thing about the solstice is that it was mostly silent and nimble, in it's stock form. All it's feel, and all it's moves were effortless, planted, and precise. With a v8 in there, it's shaking around and rumbling from all that displacement on a big cam. The only way to really calm it down, will be to put it in chains and that is by muffling, baffling, and/or resonating that exhaust.
Also: Because Mom, I would recommend your friend make 3 or 4 tunes. From de-tuned, up to maximum hp. Mom will want to use the de-tuned map, most of the time.

I think this was a terrible idea. To be honest, she didnt seem all that thrilled. I think she really enjoyed the car before, and now its just way over the top and kinda ruined. I mean yeah, a 20-30 year old man could really enjoy it, but a mom in here 50s-60's? She'll likely never drive this car. Its always gonna buck and itll be plagued with problems. LS is obviously a great motor, bot swapping them into different chassis can be a real headache. And forget about the car ever being a comfortable sports car again. What he should have done if he just had to do this, was do an F22 and S2K swap and super charge it.. It woulda been hella smooth and reliable and woulda been a super easy and cheap swap and the comfort would have remained with some nice fun. Now, the geometry and weight distribution is gonna be all off. Trust me, I did an LS Miata swap. While I had fun, it was a TERRIBLE car as a whole. Was only good for sliding and straight line driving. I think his mom would have really preferred a nice, quiet and comfortable boosted car maybe making 300-350.. F22 woulda been perfect.

He thought he was doing something nice for her, but from her view her costs on gas and othe consumabies (tires, brakes) just skyrocketed and now she has to get used to having race car levels of power and noise in what was supposed to be a fun little daily driver.
Not saying it isn't cool, it's cool as hell, but way less practical for someone who might not use it to its' full potential. It's kind of like building your grandpa a gaming PC if the RAM sticks wore out twice a year.

This is coming from a 75 year old retired Mechanic/technician, who has pretty much done and seen it all, I am very impressed with your work, it looks like the engine "grew" there. Your Mother in essence, has a Corvette now. The insurance is much less for this car than a 'Vette'. I want to say I'm impressed that you care for your Mother enough that you do everything right for her. Be safe and impress on your Mother to be extra careful with this car, she can get hurt if she loses respect for it, she can always get plenty of tickets too.
