There's something about Robert Duvall that is way beyond acting. Is it that he just projects having a very DEEP understanding of what it is to be Human? Just watching him talk is as interesting and engaging as watching many actors in their best performances. As subtle an actor as can be imagined...and a 'character' we will miss when his last scene finishes...Thanks Bob

I said that in the last part of the interview - another video. His relaxed acting style fit the role perfectly. His treatment of the impulsive young man is so well done. He knows when to play strong and when to lay back. Decades of really fine performances from one of the great actors of our time. He and Redford have the same style - you don't see them acting, they are so good and laid back yet deliver a message that you believe. Brubaker (the prison warden movie) is Redford's finest movie in my opinion.

For a couple of years my late father Robert was a struggling actor in NY in the early sixties. He told us this story.. For a short time he was living with Fay D____ (before her fame). One time he came home from his job as a waiter at a well known fancy Italian restaurant, and found the door locked and bolted. He knocked, the door opened part way and his boots were placed in the hallway, and the door quickly closed again. In there, were Fay and Mr. Duvall, apparently undressed. He left and never went back there ;)

Too old I think. He’s probably too old to put on the same level of crazy Giuliani has.

I doubt that he would be willing to funnel down to batshit crazy level at this late stage of life

Why Stephen Colbert is a pro: instant switch from interview to repeat exercise, without breaking a sweat across from one of the massive mastodons towering over you in both lineage, experience and reach. And hold your own. Never realized it, but in a one on one improve scene like this you suddenly feel the living breathing Stonehenge of acting almost literally getting up to put you in your place and it was ff-ing flatliningly scary!! What an actor and what cojones from Stephen to hold his own.... I would be crying and wetting myself. Damn Duvall, you didn’t hold back didya?!
