Just visited your online gallery and your paintings are too underpriced. You deserve so much more for your unmatched talent. Thank you for being considerate to your buyers in the meantime
Can one of the 18 dislikers explain what exactly you “didn’t like” about this video. MJS is an amazing artist, sharing his technique and experience. What is the purpose. Just don’t get it.
nothing to explain. The world always contains some foolish and jealous people. They Can't Come here in the sunlight and say "it is bad" . They are always under the ground .
I downvoted it because this video is just a clickbait for his online art school. He time-lapses without the audio through many of the important steps, choices, and decisions so you don't get a complete lesson. Even as a teaser it's not very useful: There are other art-instruction videos on RUclips by artists with online schools where they at least give you a complete, unabridged lesson in some topic. That's much more likely to to get me to sign up for their school because it gives a much more complete idea of what one of their classes is actually like.
First time I have seen your work. Wanting to look for ''how to paint grey hair'' and came across this awesome teaching. Wowwowowow!!!!. Wowwowowow!!!! I've subscribed! thanks for the valuable time you have shared!! Greetings from The Netherlands .
“The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.” Pablo Picasso. I love your paintings, you’re incredibly gifted, MJS!!
I’m an 82 yr old former Brit(39) and plan to watch your videos because 1. You a great artist and teacher and 2. You referred to your subject as a “young gentleman” and (3) i am a novice and have to paint a beard for a friend by the end of next week. Cheerio. Dave
I have been watching you for years. Had about half a million of your videos in my fav file. Finally...FINALLY... I subscribed. I never subscribe to anyone's channel. But I just love your stuff and I also love you - your personality is so calming and with a touch of humor. Perfect combination for watching an art video. xoxo - artistically speaking, of course. :)
Some might say that copying a picture is not art as it lacks creativity, so I would like to call these ppl out in public and tell them to do something similar to this. These r the ppl who would spend millions on garbage instead of appreciating the hard work that an artist goes through to create such a stunning piece of art. Simply outstanding! Keep it up bro!
Do you have any videos that go into your easel setup? I love how you have the panel mounted and would love more details on that too!! Great content, love your energy and skills. You are a magnificent teacher.
Sir i realy like the way how you paint... It inspires me to do more paintings in your style and technique... Thank you for the ideas you share... It helps a lot for me to improved more..😊
Me alucina como pintas he seguido todos tus videos pero sólo visualmente pq no hablo inglés es una pena para mí aún así he aprendido mucho y por ello te doy las gracias
I predominantly work in Acrylic. I never learnt to use oils as it all seemed too complex and acrylics were just quicker and suited my project needs (I worked as an graphic illustrator, so portraiture was more of a luxury.) I've had a bit of time off recently and decided to paint a self-portrait, and the beard is really a massive struggle to get right. I wonder if it's really possible to get a good effect using acrylics. I'll try this technique and see how it works. Perhaps it's just time for me to bite the bullet and learn how to paint in oils. :-)
How are you resting your pinky finger on the painting without smearing the paint underneath?? I noticed it all around time 8:20 in the video. It always makes a huge difference if I'm able to stabilize my hand or finger against a surface; but how in the world are you doing that here? Thanks!
Fabulous. Amazing detail and patience!
Thank you very much!
My experience every time I come to your videos, in order ... intrigue, a desire to learn, super relaxed, and then pure awe. Happens every time.

I know, right?! Some people are just morons. Michael is amaze-balls haha
Jealous people that can’t paint 🎨.... “if I can’t do it, no one should do it.” 😬 🙈
Way to go Michael James Smith! 👍🏻 👏 bravo

I'd say it's thousands of hours of practice that made him this good. Nobody is given talent like this. They earn it.

Mantap kak, salam dari indonesia...
Did you let it dry after you did the blocking in with the darker color before you started putting in the gray/white hairs?
it's so crispy
The details are amazing. The lens and every strand of the hair are masterfully done. Omg

Woowwww. Insane
Was the painting dry? Because you held your pink on the canvas?
This showed up on my suggested and I was like "holy crap" and then I saw it was MJS and I was all, "Oh, sure that makes sense."
Wow ! 👌
What is that brush called that you use for individual hairs?
What brush are you using to do the hair?
