      Yeah, he should really fucking Marr off. He looks like a crackhead these days. But, then again, he's in Portland so what do you expect? His "music" sounds like shit, too...

    The Smiths Line Up 1988

    It's like The Smiths mk1.5 !! Imagine the tune if Johnny was on it though!! Remember Johnny used to write Andy's Basslines as well so maybe that could be better!? Did Steven Street write this? The lyrics and the arrangement of the lyrics make this song IMO. Saying that Mozzer could be accapello (sic) and still sound mint!

    really confused as to why mike joyce and andy rourke are in this

    • @BratRogi
      @BratRogi 10 лет назад +12

      They played some time with him after The Smiths, they both played on Viva Hate. Also, the first Moz gig (and the so called "last Smiths gig") they also played. There is also Craig Gannon in this video, he was inducted to The Smiths by Johnny Marr during The Queen Is Dead era.

      You're absolutely right, it was my mistake at the time. A sad fact widely unknown is that Vinnie Rilley who played the guitar on Viva Hate actually composed all the tracks except Suedehead (which was composed by Stephen Street), but at the beginning didn't want any credits.
      But you're right about Rourke, Joyce and Gannon.

      Well, fair enough. Nevertheless, it's a great record :)

      Igor Horozović I'm sorry, but Riley's story is ridiculous. There's a great documentary on here called The Jewel in the Crown, which details all that controversy. I find it impossible to believe any creative person, who'd already had some success on his own, would co-write an album's worth of songs and just say, "It's cool, I don't need any credit." If that were the case, why bitch about it years later? Street might be a bit of a weasel, but he's far more believable, to me anyway, than Riley. In the doc, he literally sounds like he's making it up as he goes along. Street talks about his inspiration for certain songs--such as basing the strings on "Angel" on a Kate Bush song; and going for that "Marr sound" on "Suedehead." Riley's just like, "Um, I wrote the whole album."

      ***** Well, you have point. I like them both a lot. When I thought about it, Rilley could not go so musically simple to compose, since his harmonies on Durutti Column are much more complex, whilst Street also did play in bands before he started the engineering job. Then again, I remember reading an interview with Rilley, a very recent one, that he's sorry for the quarrel he's had with Street etc. So it makes sense what you're talking about. :)
