- I bought cheap EDC knives from AliExpress | How bad can they be?
I went to AliExpress for the first time to purchase 2 knives based on your suggestions.
One was a knife I already owned and the other was heavily requested. What did I receive and how good are they? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

I don't care much for knockoffs when the price is a bargain. You say that quality is huge difference compared to the original that costs >8 times more, but does it worth 22$? Looks like it 🤷🏻
You pay top dollar for top quality, materials, warranty (?), etc.
If top dollar gets you the same experience as a Chinese knockoff, the original creator should up their game.
Have you ever heard of breaking a knife in? Even legit knives often have to be broken in and have many of the same problems but at a premium, read inflated, price.
You can oil the pivot on the fake AD15. It will probably get smoother over time. I would buy the clone since it cuts.
I would definitely buy the 22$ one, taking it apart, polishing, oil, and then take some time to break it.
I definitely want one of those PF-818s, I probably don't need anymore knives in my collection. But I feel the urge to buy it.
Interestingly, in Canada, even though the knives are perfectly legal to buy and own, the CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency) has taken it upon themselves to confiscate knives that can be flicked with the thumb using a stud or hole (like many Spyderco knives). Nothing is keeping you however, from retrofitting a stub on any knife of your choice. This may be an explanation for the non assembled thumb studs?
Same in Germany. Not sure how excatly it works, but basically you can't have a knife that can be opened with one hand. Only "two hand needed" open styl knife.
What best bang for the buck kn1fe would you recommend to a fellow Canadian (~$20-40CAD)?
@@johntsingis get a civivi knife like civivi mini praxis
Considering the cost reduction for the clone I think you're splitting hairs over what is in essence a brand new and still stiff out-of-box knife I'm sure that snapping mechanism will free up over time with use
Um no. Out of the box should have perfect action.
I’m a collector and own hundreds of knives so I don’t think I’m splitting hairs at all expecting quality
@@ChrispyThings honestly you are splitting hairs boss... sorry but the original msrp is over 200 dollars. so essentially what you are saying is that CS's blade iis 10 TIMES better than the clone? that just isn't empirically possible
@@ChrispyThings I'd even go as far as to argue that ten of the clones will outlive one of the authentics.
@@ChrispyThingsbullshit. I have a real ad15 just like you.. mine is a piece of shit. The action is awful. If your bar for quality is cold steel... youre a joke of a "collector" lmao
I love finding good cheap knives for work. I just can't bring myself to use my Benchmade at work.
a knife is meant to be used... whether a CRK damascus Sebenza or a Kershaw! buy what intrigues you and use it!.... then sharpen and strop it😀
@@jonmcgaw2353 Except Benchmade require you to send their knives to them to get re-sharpened or you void the warranty. I rather a cheaper steel that I can re-sharpen and keep using. Also when life happens you aren't out $100-$300 bucks.
@@PrimitiveBeast benchmade chargers 200 for the flyaway and it’s basically a mini pairing knife. I bought the clone
I have an AD10 clone from Aliexpress simply because I will never afford a real one.
As a side note the seller did point out that its not S35VN, but 440C, which I can live with.
440c actually a decent steel for budget knife
It’s a good steel
@@Fstop313 it is indeed.
Without the thumb studs on it’s not considered a one handed opening knife. Not until they’re installed. I imagine that can make shipping to certain places more feasible. Dumb knife laws. Just like it is with bird law, knife law is not governed by reason. 👍
You’re probably right. It’s absolutely silly though 🤣
I got my cold steel pro lite and the only thing that makes it illegal (here in Germany) is the thumb stud. It came with it installed tho
I just got the PF 818 with the carbon fiber/G10 handles and satin blades, is a really good knife. Very sharp knife, good value for your money.
I have been using an unbranded Chinese folding knife for ten years, I did everything with this knife, from digging holes to carving wooden wedges to split wood and resharp de blade in a river stone. I just need to tighten the screws once in a while. My experience with such a cheap knife makes me question myself if knife guys, especially those carrying for urban EDC, want a useful tool such as a hammer and screwdriver or whether they want jewelry that cuts.
I love my knives. And honestly would never, ever, carry a cheap Chinese knockoff if I had the choice.
New subscriber brother, looking forward to watching more of your videos ❤Ali Express is awesome
great video man. I have something to add about the AD15 clone that people should know. It is actually dangerous. The notch on the blade and the lock bar of the clone doesn't seat well together. With just a light tap on the spine while it is open, the lock will disengage. I have 2 of the clones; 1 is a standard g-10 and the other a titanium version. Both exhibit this flaw.
On the positive note, I use the titanium scale from the clone on my real cold steel ad15 and it fit perfectly. I am very happy about that.
Oh, another detail to tell the fake from the real 1, the logo on the blade of the clone is just printed on so it has texture. The real cold steel is smooth on the logo. All in all, the clone is pretty accurate to the real 1 minus some fit and finish and that 1 major flaw.
Great point about the lock bar. Thanks!
The thumb studs came separate because im pretty sure one hand opening knives are illegal in china. And since aliexpress sells in china they have to put them separate and when they ship to US they just toss them in the box.
I don't mind clones. The knife snob world is real. It slices it dices it'll cut your fingers deep. Lol get yourself a REAL Buck knife though.
Exactly. With bs propaganda spewed by the ol boys club.
I mind the stealing designs but adaptations of any kind should be allowed imho. It's a free world, and everyone should have access to X even if someone invented the design and patented it
I typically only get clones if I want to use a proprietary mechanism like the axis lock. I think that’s its name and don’t really care or want to shill out the money to buy the real one.
I grabbed a benchmade clone because I’m not paying $200 for the flyway. The blade is 2.6 inches
Working warehouses the last 5 years has really made me appreciate s35vn it takes along time til it’s dull compared to stainless
I have a PF818 and love it !
I Personally believe that the "Legit Version" is basically the Chinese Version RE-BOXED AND REPACKAGED to Jack up the Price to the end buyer, its that simple and as for the blade I say that once it cuts that is all you need and if it holds its edge then that is all you need, to me looking at both knives they look IDENTICAL lets face it they do, but the steel has to be able to hold its edge and I would not get to hung up on the roundness of the top of the blade to me their
of no consequence as long as it does not cut the users hand and if the worst came to it a gentle rub of a very fine file would take care of that, what has to be remembered is at the end of the day You are Paying for the Brand Name hence the higher Price in my humble opinion.
Yes. People don’t understand this.
Sounds like it needs a disassembly and oil
I bought a chinaman Reate Exo M. It is a good knife. $375 vs $40.
The biggest thing you'll notice is edge retention.
Probably. But not in this case.
That AD15 clone was hot garbage compared to the quality of the legit version
do you use a special security credit card when ordering from me China sites??
I would hate to nuy one of those AD-15
folders and think I'm get a original Cold Steel AD-15 , especially being as though I haven't had the chance to hold a original, because flea markets ne trying to sell knockoffs for the real deal all the time i my area. 🦉
Fyi if you are Military; First Responders or LE, many knife companies have deals available.
I bought green thorn knife on ali and i was amaized with good quality of the knife
Petrified fish pf878 is another good one they make. I want to buy the warrior 949 with k110 steel. I have the blue pf818 and I bought my dad a pf878 in grey and he loves it.
Links for aliexpress?
anyone got the AE link?
Missing thumb studs are to keep them legal in every country. Means you can't open it open it one handed
you can get same on eBay. No branding names. Same chy-na stuff.
at twice the price
What people dont know is that, the knives they call a fake are actually legit that did not pass quality check/ excess materials left on the factory.
LIAR
Not true at all 😂
I think it's true only if it was made in china, but it is made in Taiwan which is basically in china so idk
@@vcommandarv5916 if a good quality company has bad qc on a knife they’re going to scrap it…they’re not going to just sell it anyways lol
@@ohyahlinkinpark4life some companies do it, it's called factory seconds and are sold at a lower price, for example a 50$ product will be sold for 30$-20$ if it was a factory second
I've been getting some pretty good stuff from AliExpress but especially from the company JUFULE. Anytime I've had a problem they made it right too!
The ad15 is more than double the price that is given here. The given store doesn't sell anything anymore.
The price given came directly from Knife Center or Blade HQ at the time of making this video.
@@ChrispyThings I thought they were the Aliexpress prices?
I joined the knife clubs on Reddit. It's very informative. The clones are probably made by the knife companies who are contracted as the OEM for all the major brands like WE, Kershaw, Bestech, etc. That's why they're quality is amazing.
They may cut a few corners here & there however the overall value is incomparable. So many channels try to make the clones look like a lot waste of money but usually fail. The steel may not be super steel but most people don't need it.
I'm a federal Investigator in the field on the Epstein/Trump/Cuomo investigation. My first knives are total 'junk' steel. They're razor sharp after 2 years of bushcraft off-grid living.
People who really have to use their knives don't give AF about petty details. That's elitist capitalist money-grab bs. No way this Native American spends $250 on a knife I can buy for $25 and be equally as good.
I appreciate your comment.
But no way in hell I would ever choose that clone AD15 over the legit version.
It feels too shotty and cheap. I even mentioned that it technically does the same thing but I just can’t recommend.
Also I’d say guys who actually use their knives definitely care about quality.
All that loose components sound like every Kershaw I've ever bought
They know the laws, with the thum stud, the knife is banned in many contries. 👍👍
Not my country though! Put those damn studs on! lol
While I share your sentiment on difference on quality let's not pretend most of us aren't just opening boxes with it
Where is the AE link ?!?
What did I say in the video about clone links?
petrified fish is a great knife I own one
Sorry but, the clone is a disservice to the original maker, Like your video though, glad you own the original.
Wish just buy from AliB or AliE and jack up the price and resell at higher price for profit....it is a company that buy already cheap "!#"# and then trick people to buy from them instead from the source
They can be pretty damn bad. I got one that was super sharp and sturdy. A few months later the ball bearing failed so the blade opened in my pocket without me knowing it. When I went to reach into my pocket for my key I almost severed the corned of a finger off. Blood everywhere. Never again.
Thanks
The petrified fish is cheaper on their legit website
When I looked it was slightly more expensive on their site. Maybe they lowered it recently?
@@ChrispyThings I think rather the knock off went up in price it's 71 dollars on aliexpress when I looked.
Either is undesirable to me.
Friend or friend with benefits. I get the same response.
unreal what they can get away with
petrified fish makes a quality Chinese knife
Better quality clones will run around $50
The is not fake, it is counterfeit!!
Using the original makers logo is illegal.
Nah. It’s fake.
Clones are fake…and counterfeit
Hi, Petrified Fish is a Chinese brand at a budget price while Cold Steel, Buck, Benchmade, Chris Reeves and others are USA made with much higher prices, so they copy the USA brands. From the price difference you know it's a copy and should expect poorer quality
Yes I’m aware
Some Bucks are made in China. Cold Steel are made in Tiawan
Except some of that brands also made in china, and cost almost the same with those chinese brand and they put their name in it and ram up the price for you amreicans
I is don’t support clones . If your gonna buy something that looks like it that is not as good quality your just going to hurt yourself or someone else or even the knife itself it won’t be the same materials witch is why it won’t be as durable or able to cut anywhere near as good as the original . Plus it’s made by people who don’t care they just want the money , you think if you have a problem you will be able to get it fixed or replaced or your money back? Who are you finding ? If I want a knife I buy it not a knock off . Save up if you have to it will be more worth it and mean more to you . Buy from reputable in china like WE or the oem for Peña I can’t remember off top of my head they make some of the best knives
You don't need any guarantee if you buy dirt cheap knives if it brokes buy a new one, it's literally a tenth of the real one price, you can get ten of them with same price and that would last you a lifetime. And also those brands mostly manufacturing their products in china with a just a little more cost than the clone one, and they make you pay much more money
Now this is a clone meant to deceive people. This is bull ****.
Because it says Cold steel on the knife when from what you are saying, it's not.
When people crap on ganzo and eafengrow, I disagree with them.
They blast their name and make changes on steel which they print on their descriptions.
I bought a ganzo that was similar to Spyderco and then I bought the real thing. The ganzo was the gateway to the Spyderco.
Oh well, it's just my humble opinion,
✌️🦁
ça doit faire un peu mal au fion de voir qu'on s'est bien fait enflé avec un AD15 à 175 bucks...
They are okey, still can cut and stab.
Bruh. They dull quickly. I hate it when I'm trying cut someone's arteries and need to resharpen the knife mid battle
!
justjonny here... I never ever recommend a clone! but the clone Petrishised Fish is intriguing! I'd buy it just to show friends the real deal vs clone! The cold steel looks like shit!.... but what do you expect for a cheap knock off?!
save up and buy the real deal folks in what you like! Maybe you don't have the cash but when you buy once and done you will be happy! even if only 'real' knife you have! save up and buy real! and support the legit knifemakers!
great video Chrispy... love your content
...petrified lol
The common sense voted for Biden.
Don’t support clones. Intellectual property theft is a huge problem.
Did you see that I owned a legit Cold Steel AD15 and i said that the only reason i bought the fake one was for the sake of this video telling people not to buy it.
Or did you FF like everyone else on RUclips?
Just ask us Native Americans who lost our land while enslaved & slaughtered. GTFOH
What goes around comes around.
Don't be the fool who pays brand name tax, if it's imported than its fair game especially if they do that save money while still charging like it's made in a country with better paying wages.
Um they are commies?!?!?!?!
Try not to send money to China. Leave the money in your economy.
Half of the electrical things you own probably come from China! lol
@@strider775 that's the sad reality
I don't have many things though and still try not to. Not that my little bit of money makes a difference. When I can I buy locally. And if not nationally. And if not anywhere but China. Not against the Chinese BTW just the ccp
@@jyeprice9382 I don't mind supporting small people who unfortunately live inside corrupt governments like China and Russia. It's always government or corporation that is bad.
Just saw your Playlist. Every knife you review is trash, appropriate weight will be given to your.. opinion
