  • Finally got around to working on big blue again. Snow has really been lacking this season and so was motivation for a while. But, I guess if you can't ride might as well wrench! Hope to ride this thing a bit this year.

    There's nothing like the feeling you get when you get an old machine running again.

      Yup, always a good feeling, especially when it's been written off for dead!

    They were a solid and reliable machine. Great for the farm. You could pull a lot with them.This model was my very first snowmobile, then Dad decided to get a TNT 440 free air. I miss the Snow Jet as much as the TNT.

    Cool that you put a Cat suspension and track on it. I put a mikuni carb on my old snow jet. Made a big difference. It was a astro jet 295.

    When they ran those oldies were fun. This brings me back. Always trying to keep our sleds running. Our Yamaha 1971 sl 338 never died. But our 71 ext 399 free air and Polaris charger 398 were very finicky.

      Funny how some sleds were just always a lot more maintenance, you just know something was going to break! haha

    Love the video! My first sled was a sno jet, and I had an old sportster than I rode for 5 minutes and worked on for 5 hours so I can relate.

    Sno-jet's were fast. I drag raced sleds in the 1970's . I've had 20 sleds at least. There was a time I rode my 340 F/A TNT ski-doo to Medway Secondary school from Lucan Ontario with my 870 12gauge on my back. I would just put my gun in my locker for the day.
    No one after up! If you pointed your gun there were 12 pointed back!
    The neighbour was an OPP and friend of my father. My guns were above my bed.
    This may be no big deal to my American friends but to my whiney left-wing secular Canadian young people of today I say.
    Mind your own business! Stay out of my closet and I will stay out of yours!!
    I really miss the old days.
    Thanks for the video.

    Sweet. Just in time too eh?, it's starting to snow. To bad about the slides. Anything will work. Maybe get some bogies for that thing.

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  6 лет назад +1

      Threw on some slides last year, and was out rocking it yesterday! Tillotson HD is working nice and I got it tuned in pretty decent, it definitely feels like the motor is good for 50 mph but the brakes and steering only good for 30, haha.

    • @stevenwithanS
      @stevenwithanS 6 лет назад

      Right on. Me and the boys were out rippin it up with the elans on the weekend. How's your snow?

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  6 лет назад +1

      Cool, an elan is on my to get list someday. We've had 2 or 3 weeks with brutal cold and just a dusting, got about 6" today and then it turned to rain, and will probably melt in a day or two... Crazy roller coaster temps, mother nature is killing me! lol

    I would love to pickup one of these with a blown motor and swap a built predator 420 or duromax 440cc engine onto it.

    In the riding mower world wolbro carbs are king ......I guess in the snowmobile world they are junk lol

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  4 года назад +1

      Ha, I guess that is kind of true. Those certain carbs just seem to be notorious for being unreliable and difficult to tune. There's some models from all the manufacturers like that as well though.
