- Since 2009, a reported 350,000 to 400,000 South Africans have chosen to come back to Mzansi, despite all its social, political and economic problems. What could be the reason? Here’s what eNCA contributor Mpho Lakaje found. Courtesy #DStv403
How nice of Eskom to give them a warm welcome home with Stage 5 load shedding.
🤣🤣🤣😂
Well we can turn those 5hrs...to cosy hours, tell each other scary stories and take time out from technology for a bit ..... It really doesn't bother me lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
All the more reason to stay put & solve our problems. Look @ our fellow Africans drowning in distant seas while running away from home. There's Dudula wherever you go. It's worse for Black Africans. Eskom is ours to fix. If we run away who do we expect to fix it? I'd rather shiver in the dark eMzantsi than face racial discrimination in faraway lands or dr9wn in the Mediterranean sea.
Lucky you for knowing which stage it is on. ESP updates the changes every 5 minutes..
A truth that people have omitted to mention is the absence of cheap domestic labour abroad to allow people to continue to maintain lifestyles of minor royalty. Full time maids, nannies, gardeners, drivers etc are the preserve of the very wealthy abroad. You have to look after your own children, tend your own garden, clean your own house, wash and iron your own clothes or pay reasonably for someone else to do so. The perennially pampered and lazy cannot cope, particularly if they are balancing that with full time work or running a business.
@@mjjaguar8854 You rather prove my point. Two cleaners who come in once a week is in no way comparative to the full time domestic helper who usually lives on the premises and works from morning until night cleaning a home in its entirety, preparing meals, feeding pets, and looking after children, who is found in even an average income South African home. Artificial grass instead of real grass because artificial doesn't require tending and the associated costs and time. The last time I hired a nanny, which was 10 years ago the going rate was £180 -£250 a week for Mon to Fri 8-6 including two nights of babysitting a month. We also had to provide high quality room and board within our home, an ensuite room, not some sub-standard domestic quarters. Weekend work was paid hourly as an extra and nanny means nanny, no house work included outside of preparation of children's meals. My gardener costs £12 p/h. Nursery fees are not free for 25 hours a week, that's an outright lie, unless you are getting some sort of state handout as a single parent, and even those kinds of benefits have been severely reduced in the best case scenarios or abolished entirely, in the worst case scenario, since the conservatives came to power in 2008. One certainly can have servants etc and live a life of relative ease in the UK, but you have to be wealthy to do so. Unlike South Africa where labour is so cheap that every Tom, Dick and Harriet can afford to hire some poor poverty waged soul to wait on them hand and foot. That's the truth of the matter.
I have always cleaned my own house, dug my own garden and raised my own children
In other countries, people are fully capable of taking care of their own properties and children. That’s not a downside, unless you are inept. No offense, but you kind of just made South Africans sound pretty disassociated from reality. At least the ones who take advantage of the extreme inequality in your country so they don’t have to do chores. Just a reminder that countries without extreme inequality is a good thing. South Africans must lack lots of life skills.
@@marigoldbeam5475 A fulltime maid is not found in an average income home and they cost you much more than you think.
1000% true they all fail to mention that cheap labour factor

If it wasn't for the crime and corruption, South Africa would probably be one of the richest countries in the world, both in assets but also in culture and diversity. I love my country and have left twice because of financial reasons but as soon as I can, I am determined to return. There is no other place like it in the world. South Africans need to unite to remove the corruption so it can finally thrive and prosper like it was meant to do after 1994

I worked overseas, also got married during this time - for a total of 20 years. We lived in about 7 countries. The grass always looks greener on the other side but believe me, challenges can be just as hard or harder than here in SA. We came back 8 yrs ago and adjusted well. My husband is not a SA-can but obtained permanent residence status. He talks about SA as his country and feels more at home here than anywhere else. He has British, Austrian, and Israeli citizenship yet prefers SA. In SA people are more friendly and hospitable, yes, we have our bad spots in every culture group, but people are generally more accepting and warm.
♥️♥️♥️ Thanks for sharing
There’s no place like our country. I am based in Germany , however SA is the best
I love hearing stories like this. We have a beautiful country with beautiful people. Yes we have our challenges but which country doesn't? With many more positivity, love and wise choices at the election ballots, we can and we will overcome. I love you my SA people ❤️

I find it funny how everyone in this video is middle to upper middle class as if it's they way all South Africans live here, the reason these people came back is because they couldn't live the middle to upper middle class life abroad and didn't want to have to work harder to make ends me because over there they were just like everyone else, these people are spoilt.

I am a Namibian living in the UK, and I can not relate to other Africans missing home. Namibia is a great country and I initially left to do my masters ( which is one year in the UK rather than the two years in Namibia). But I have stayed on after my studies, and honestly, I am not home sick , I can also easily go back home and not miss life in UK either. I am a drifter ,never truly attached to one place, never too sad to leave people behind.

The Reporter: SA is facing a mountain of challenges... It doesn't have to be like this. We need to stamp out corruption and follow the mandate: eradicate poverty. Majority of theft-crime is a result of poverty, but our government's reason is greed and entitlement.
We need to stop illegal foreigners from coming into the country and then start dealing with all these challenges.

your life abroad sounds like you're explaining life in many towns in the Western Cape, except here there are ghost pops and we don't have to import brandy or make biltong

More are leaving, south Africa is a lost cause.
The world is a lost cause no S.A alone.
Michelle Mone is alledged to have stolen £29m from UK tax payers for PPE during Covid. This whilst people are struggling with high electricity bills. The average person has to decide between eating or keeping warm during winter.
@@dot510 So true, and only those who have not traveled think other countries are better than theirs. Western countries don't hang their dirty laundry in public so we don't see their dirty news. For example, in the US many states have no age limit for marriage, and you have many states where 12 year old are married off with so-called parental consent ( mainly white Christians), in South Africa we call that GBV, but no one speaks about it.
We left SA just over 5 years ago, and we didn't move to USA, NEW ZEALAND or AUSTRALIA like majority of South Africans, we moved to India. And yes of course we miss SA we miss our family, the culture, but we don't agree with money goes a longer way. We visited mid june-july, and for us it was expensive. Everything we purchased was multiplied by 5 plus exchange rates. Since we moved abroad, my husband is the sole provider for us, I don't work, and I don't need to as the cost of living is not that high compared to the other countries. We've never been happier, we're able to do things, like travel - a lot! - which we were never able to do in SA even though both of us worked. South Africa will forever be our home, but we found a second home in India.
Been overseas for six years, so far I’m happy where I am, thank you Mzansi
It's still a fraction of those who leave and never come back with no regrets. SA has just got so many issues in so many areas that need urgent action.
The grass is greener where you water it, let's fix SA.
Make it easy for them to come back
South Africa is different bro. Irreplaceable
My brother went back for a holiday . I've just picked him up at the airport and he told me SA is stuffed. So i don't know if this is all a spin just to make SA look good.???
It takes 7 years to adapt to new country.
7 months… it’s about attitude…
900 000? I just don't believe it. There is a weekly newbie South African in the Netherlands, and this is a tiny country. But whatever your reasons, emigration is not for everyone. It's understandable why people change their minds
Welcome home
There is no place like home, hence I encourage every South African to stay and fight

@Echuta so why are you even commenting? Shouldn't you be preoccupied with your multiple countries? You are a mercenary.
Just watch "Kuruman's catastrophic criminality" on the Carte Blanche YT channel, as an example. There is plenty of the truth if you just look for it! All this stuff is happening everywhere, just some places a lot worse than others, FOR NOW! Eskom is also being purposefully destroyed, as are other important infrastructures! If all this goes on another 5, max 10 years....you will all be so seriously sorry you came back😔
Nice come home to darkness .
South African immigrants...
If South Africa hadn't of stopped me from progressing in my career and withheld opportunities because of my race then I would never of left.
I loved SA but the policies and corporate corruption drove me out.
Welcome home Saffas
bliksem this home sickness doesn't make sense but most of us abroad go through it, whilst we know its a no brainer especially when raising kids.
NOW THAT SOUTH AFRICAN EXPATS ARE COMING HOME ,IT IS TIME ALL AFRICAN DIASPORA TO GO HOME TO THEIR COUNTRIES ,SOUTH AFRICANS WILL ALWAYS COME HOME TO THEIR COUNTRY ,PLEASE GO BACK HOME TO YOUR COUNTRIES WE WANT TO FIX OUR COUNTRY ,CHITANDO PLEASE TAKE YOUR ZIMBABWEANS BACK TO ZIMBABWE 🇿🇼 .
Racism is not tolarated in some countries, so that is the reason some are coming back to their culture.
Me too ✋️, home is home I tell you!!!!
We would love to come back, but SA going to go through a tough time now. Next few years are going to be rough. Let’s hope for a change for better 🎉🎉
My wife and I have been living in The Netherlands for 5 years, we bought a house, expecting our firstborn baby in 2 months, and we are really happy. it's not an easy decision to take to leave your country, it's also not cheap, and most definitely not easy leaving your family and friends behind. You can't expect to move to a new country and try and live the same way you have lived before, you have to adapt, others you will get depressed/unhappy. Every country has its ups and downs, you just have to prioritize what's most important to you. As much as I love my family and friends and all the nice things SA has to offer, I don't see us moving back anytime soon. I won't talk bad about SA, in fact, I try to say only positive things when people ask me about SA. I just want people to understand that we (expats) didn't just pack our bags and left...it wasn't easy, I wish I could pop in at my mom's house every day to say hi and give her a hug, but I can't. I'm soon to be a father and I have to make decisions I think are the best for me, my wife, and our kid's future.
I feel You Mate , it very depressing and I feel Your pain. I also want the best for South Africa and South African's.
I miss it everyday , Australia is same shit diffrent day , nothing to boast about.
I pray for Peace , Joy and Happiness for all South African's and hope for brighter future for all the family I left behind.
If I had to come back I'll spend every waking moment trying to leave again.
Do they have rocks in their heads?
Wow - this is really some rich people problems. She missed freedom day and braai day....really???
And you can drive a skoro skoro in South Africa and not have it taken off the road
I have lived in three countries and I am currently in Uzbekistan with a job to start in January in the UK but even I am choosing to go home in January. The country has many problems but it ismy country with our own problems. Seeing this video just serves as confirmation.
Well you better be prepared to fight cause a civil war is definitely impending 🤞🏾
Man… i so want to come home but the Eskom thing is bloody worrying !
That's a small blimp on the radar. I saw teh crime stats of nz and Australia.
Shocking for white people.
People from abroad want to live here, ì know I live in Cape town
DA is working hard to get Western Cape off the eskom grid. Move to WC when you come back. So many incredible places to live down here
It’s pride and ego - wealthy or middle class South Africans are no longer wealthy in almost any other country because our currency is so weak. South Africans struggle to cope without the luxury of very affordable domestic helpers, child carers etc. That said - there are no friendlier people than South Africans. Sweden in particular is probably the hardest country for a South African to move to - people are so introverted and the weather & daylight or no daylight is extreme and it’s unbelievably expensive.
