Titanic Final Plunge Scene Fixed (1953)

- This edit is not meant to make the sinking necessarily more accurate, rather to fix issues with the scene that I felt could have been improved. TLDR I added a few cuts, added more sound effects, and fixed the ending narration.
While the 1953 Titanic film isn't the most accurate by any means, I still enjoy it. I always did feel the way the ending was edited was a little too fast. I decided to do some editing to improve the scene. I did not however, add the ship breaking up, as I didn't want to use footage from other films. I wanted to only improve upon the existing footage, by rearranging the cuts.
There was only one very fast shot passengers falling, a reaction shot of Julia Sturges (Barbara Stanwyck), and then the ship going down silently minus the explosion sounds. There weren't any screams to be heard.
I decided in my fan edit to add sound effects. Some are resampled from earlier in the film, and quite a few are from the 1958 film A "Night To Remember." I added a few extra sounds from another maritime disaster film (that was not about Titanic). If you can guess what movie leave a comment!
I also added a reaction shot of Annette Sturges (Audrey Dalton), as I felt it was something that was missing.
While editing, I discovered the shot of passengers falling due to the explosion before the final plunge; was actually the same scene but separate takes. Both shots were filmed from different angles, and shaky cam was added to the first angle in post. I only realized they were separate takes of the same scene, because several people fall almost exactly the same way in both takes. For example Second Officer Lightoller falls into one of the life boat davits in both takes.
I resampled this first shot and stabilized the footage, and added it in as a fast cut in between the reaction shots of Julia, and Annette Sturges.
I used Elevenlabs to redub the narration at the end as the original never stated the death toll, only the number of survivors. It also only accounted for 19 lifeboats, assuming they didn't count the overturned collapsible that many people were on top of.
Finally I added a more somber version of the Bethany version of Nearer My God to Thee.
I also enhanced the film to 60 frames per second.
I did have to cut out most of the passengers singing nearer my god to thee in the beginning as it is copyrighted.
Thank you for watching and I hope you like this edit!

i like how you add a night to remember's screaming
Thanks! I tried to pic out specific sections for the sound effects. I also sampled some screams from earlier in the 1953 film, and added them in as the ship slips under the water.
I even mixed in some screams from the Poseidon Adventure because there were some really good dramatic ones. If you listen, when the final explosion happens you can hear one.
Wait you added the poseidon adventure screaming
@@chrisbeauvais7499 A few screams yes. Only some of the really good 𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤 ones for some flair.
@@TitanicFlimFan1811 your editing is amazing
@@procringer9350 Thank you!
Man great edit!! Glad to see ya back after 5 years!
Thank you! I've been so busy over the last few years I didn't have a lot of time for film editing. Kind of sad my fan trailers, for A Night To Remember, got flagged for copyright because of the music. I may make a new one but I will search for music that isn't copyrighted.
Night to Remember is better.🇬🇧🚢
That's smooth!
No
@@johannpereyra6047nah, it's so good in my opinion
Very smooth! But in part 0:29 , you see there are no people in the ship but still hear people's scream, that's little scare
@@RMMVOceanic3 THAT NOT BAD LOOKS LIKE THE TITANIC WAS DIDNT BREAK UP
@@johannpereyra6047 you mean the ship not break up mean is bad? If you mean that, you don't know this is the 1953 movie and until 1985, the wreck is discovered and people believe it?
When I was a kid I wasn't allowed to watch the 1997 Titanic movie because of the nudity, so I had to watch old versions like this instead. It was my family's version of the "We have Titanic at home" meme!
I was allowed to watch this one first too. My parents bought the 97 one on vhs eventually and would only allow me to watch the second tape.
@@TitanicFlimFan1811I watched the movie many times in my dad’s phone and he always told me that when the Jack painting Rose scene comes, I would hand him the phone so he could skip it and I could watch the rest of the movie, good ol’ times
For those who didn’t know why the ship didn’t split in half:the movie didn’t see the picture of the real ship at the bottom of Atlantic
So the movie of titanic in 1997 splited in half because Cameron or James Cameron saw the real view of the splinted ship so that’s why he made the ship split in half so that’s why the 1953 or 1958 movie didn’t splited. I hope this helps!
0:30 Damn why did everyone Think Titanic Sank in one piece? Before the wreck was discovers in 1985, Survivors like eva hart Ruth becker & Frank osman they saw the ship break in two, If I was a Titanic survivor, I want telling the True.
It was very dark when the ship broke up as the ship had lost power, and there was no moon light. It also probably didn't fall as dramatically as in the 97 film because it broke up at a much shallower angle.
Thing is, Mr. Lightoller stated in the inquiries the ship sank absolutely intact. Probably people tended to believe the most senior member of the crew
to survive, who had already been on a shipwreck, rather than little girls with no experience in seamanship.
Jack Thayer gave a comprehensive description of how the ship broke in two and even drew pictures of it.
There were claims of titanic splitting but white star line overpowered them
The scene look better than the original. In the original, people still on board the ship just stand in the bridge and sing "Nearer my god to thee" then the ship exploded and people seem got. At the part 0:15 , you see the stern raising higher, higher with the scream of people still on board look like they were desperate and trying to cling to the stern of the Titanic. And at part 0:29 , you see there are no people on the ship (because they're in water in the original) and the scream start in somewhere that made me little scare. Anyways, your scene look so smooth!
Maybe theyre on the starboard side
Some of the screams sounded familiar. Did you edit some screams from the Poseidon adventure capsizing scene into this?
Yes I did! You're the first to catch that! lol
Fun Fact many people who saw Cameron's Titanic movie thought it was fictional made up story they had no idea it was a real event that happened in 1912 they thought Cameron made up the story.
Yes they are called Americans
And they don't know what goes on in their own country let alone anybody else's country .
The main cast are mostly fictional, mainly Jack, Rose, Rose’ mother, and Cal, are all fictional. The story itself is based on true events of course.
@@joeblogs-vx4epWhy does everyone have to tag us to everything, what do we even have to do with this?
@@CarolinaRailfan-1702 it's basically means most of Americans aren't educated enough, but that doesn't mean you are also not educated too
How stupid they are
The use of Elevenlabs to redub the narration was very clever.
Thank you! I only discovered it probably a month ago. It's such a great tool though, I'm glad I found it!
I do wonder what version of Nearer my god to thee was at the end because it gripped me so hard into heavy tears. @@TitanicFlimFan1811
What part engine explodes?
In the film there were boiler explosions. I'm assuming that's what the final explosion is supposed to be.
@@TitanicFlimFan1811actually the 4th funnel was on top of the engines and was fake, the 4th funnel was only for air vents to the engines so they where the things that exploded, but we all know that the explosion was the break up, and the break up happens forward of the 3rd funnel and then 4th never collapsed until it went under water. (and don't question why this was posted 1y later.)
Very good, real facts. No sappy lovey fluff
I wouldn't say that necessarily. After all the whole movie is a historical fiction drama starring Barbara Stanwyck and Clifton Webb. Not to mention there's a lot of glaring inaccuracies. I still quite enjoy the film even if it has its faults. The performance of the cast is quite good and I do like the special effects.
@@TitanicFlimFan1811 I was just watching Titanic(1997) directed by James Cameron, sure it won 11 Academy Awards, however really disliked the fictional shenanigans of Leonardo and Kate, several critics hated the entire dialogue among the 2 actors. You know Billy Zane should've been nominated for an Award.
Once the ship hit the iceberg the movie gets better
@@larry930legend I do wish the film was more centered around real people. I understand why Cameron felt he had to have the love story. A lot of people wouldn't have cared about the movie as much if it hadn't been in it which is unfortunate. It's funny when I was growing up my parents wouldn't let me watch the first VHS tape of Titanic cause it was "sexually inappropriate." I was allowed to watch all the death an carnage though lol so I just watched the ship sink and I had no idea what the hell was going on with Jack and Rose for the longest time.
@@TitanicFlimFan1811 If you want something that focuses on the actual people, I would actually go for the stage musical, which incidentally opened up on Broadway several months before the Cameron blockbuster. It does something completely different with the class divide by using real individuals. instead of just a higher class looking down on lower class, it takes the time to address the first-class, marveling at the opulence and what they have, and the hopes and dreams of the third-class as they seek a new life in America. Furthermore, it also gives a voice to the second-class, who strive to build up their social status, something that a lot of other Titanic stories don’t acknowledge as much.
Furthermore, the music is fantastic, for the most part. Some of the solo parts can be a little bit talk-singy, which can be very hit or miss depending on your mileage, but the choral numbers are gorgeous, and arguably some of the best parts of the show.
It's not a Fun Fact that 1500 Souls Perished with TITANIC! Doesn't matter if it was American or Great Britain! Our Allies stand Together! R.I.P. TITANIC & her lost Souls 🙏✝️
Who said it was a fun fact?
Send link to extended version pls
Nearer My God to Thee is public domain. You wouldn't have to edit it 'due to copyright'
I did try to upload a longer version but I couldn't get it to be available in all countries with out cutting it.
What music do you use for the ending
I like how this works, the main problem I have with 1953 is that it shows that everyone just died singing nearer my god to thee at the end and no people were at the stern. This kind of fixes it, but I think it would have been cool to include some ANTR final plunge scene stuff. I made my own version with that sort of stuff if anyone wants to see it: ruclips.net/video/eGRGjOsIkOY/видео.htmlsi=AAyoh4TN83X8mY_Z
Well done!
Yes, their elevens were up. 😔🛳️🔱
I saw this movie in 2020. How was this scene managed to be made given that at that time there were not many special effects in cinema? I'm wrong?
Oh there was many special effects in the 1958s. In fact they were surprisingly advanced. Around 70 to 80 percent of the practical/special effects techniques we have today had been invented by the 1950s, although those techniques would still require refining and would become very advanced by the 1990s. Also in the 1950s, cgi (yes it did exist back then) was very primitive and so it was only used a handful of times between the 1950s and 1970s in Hollywood.
❤️💜❤️
😂 0:10 WTF
You're mean😡
Just went down in one piece didn't break apart
There was no breakup, because no one believed the testimonies about the breakup during the inquiries. The breakup wasn't proven until the wreck was found in 1985.
Why did it not split
The film was made in 1953, before the wreck was discovered (It was discovered in 1985).
The corrections in this edit were not to entirely change the way the ship sank, but rather to correct:
*The flow of the cuts.
*The lack of sound effects.
*And lastly to have a more accurate ending narration.
No entanto, muitas pessoas ainda o viram quebrar.
You mean it might have broken below water?
I really don't agree. It was pitch black outside, which was probably why it was hard to see. However, many people still saw it break.
The end is to quick
Trust me it's longer than it was before I edited it lol
It didn't sink that fast.
