- Game Warden Could have fined me for this!! In this episode I head out kayak fishing for redfish and had an encounter with the Marine police on the water and I could be fined for having this on my kayak!

My Dad always taught me that making the "slot" 1/2" smaller and he released all females. It was his effort to protect the fishery. Great lesson from a great fisherman. I'm sure all serious anglers appreciate a visit from the Game Warden staff. Their vigilance is essential and appreciated by all our community that abide by rules. Great recipe!! Well done!

I appreciate game warden a lot but it really sucks when you forgot to renew your license for the first time in years and also see the first warden for the first time in years at the local pond and you don’t even keep fish😂

Your dads a a smart man. He new 3 redfish was about 16lbs of Meat. Fisherman don’t need to slot out every trip for it to be a great day. When i grew up, we fished for ourselves and nobody else.. That’s why millennials and older fisherman have no problem tossing everything back. But now, some people fish for a different reason
Just a suggestion, after cutting the meat loose from first side of the fish leaves it attached until after you cut the other side that way the body will be more level to get a cleaner cut then go back and remove the meat off the first side.
It took me years longer than it should have to learn to do this! Definitely helps a lot.

Nate, the recipe looks delicious. I'll have to try it out. Makes me nervous when you clean fish without a cut resistance glove. I like using one because it helps me to keep a good grip on the fish. Also, I want to keep all of my fingers. Thanks, for the video. Be safe 🙏

Get yourself a Uglystik GX it won't break, I have a 7' H 20/50 baitcaster for 20+ yrs...I've replaced myself the guides once and the tip twice(not broken) It has caught everything even ocean fishing, calico bass, dorado, bonito even pesky bycatch. I swear I even backed over it too, paired with a Daiwa lexa cc 300.....Best 50 bucs I spent. Nice Catch/Awesome Cook🐟

I Love the 150HP Yamaha on that Game Warden's small skiff. But I do have a question, Are they exempt from having a registration number on their boat? Our FWC boats all have registrations.

Contrasting numbers are the basic things people do with their numbers on a boat. It says so in the rules and regs of every state DNR page.
Very professional hell I run ghost numbers lol so I would have gotten stopped as well . Beautiful fish and yea those wake baits have been hard to find

I have spent 100s of hours on the water and never been checked, and I have never been checked on the job for my union card in 38 years. They have had them checking everyone around me for a fishing license and not me for some reason. Most of my time on the water is on Northern Wisconsin lakes and nowadays I never keep a fish.
Maybe they think you’re just casting, not fishing.haha

I’m struggling HARD this year. What was the water clarity on that trip and do you think the water temperature is ever too hot for moving baits like that?
Man it has been the toughest Summer I can remember. Water temp was 87 when we started and 92 at 9:00 am when we left. Water clarity was very poor but I think the redfish are responding better early morning to fast moving baits. I threw jigs on this day as well with zero bites.

it surprises me that you even need boat ID numbers on a Kayak, we don't need them here in Washington unless our kayak is larger than 16ft and has a 10hp or more motor.
I fish quite a bit at the largest lake in Indiana. So far, every DNR agent has been excellent when dealing with them. They come by often on the dock where I fish as there have been quite a few violates often. Thye got to know me by name when they'd come...I'd just say while I was casting...but I'm not fishing ossifer. Great guys and gals. One I met at a Boat Sport and Travel show had a bad attitude...I think his wife must have pissed him off that day. Instead of being a deputy sheriff I'd wished I'd went DNR.
I am surprised that the game warden did not have a surface drive on their marsh boat!

Each states wardens are different. Some go out of thier way to be pricks.. and others are more interested in learning about good spots.
For our personal water craft. The numbers need to be reflective mailbox numbers. Cant just paint them on. It's for saftey in low light conditions.

I’ve never had a problem with the game warden now they have asked me if I had any bald eagle in my freezer I told them I didn’t think so but I heard it kind of taste like spotted owl 😎. One place where I fish had fairly restrictive limits it’s a park and you’re allowed 5 trout 4 catfish and 15 panfish I asked them about yellow bass and they informed me the didn’t really want them in the lake and I could keep as many as I wanted I’ve been trying to help them eradicate them for years lol

Thankfully, I am a man. I inspect my own gear before I go in the water, I can swim very well and I have practice. I do not welcome the game warden/fish and wildlife. I pay WAY more taxes than I should.....matter of fact, we, here in America, are taxed well into the slavery category. Look it up. I get 1.5 days per week to enjoy myself as far away as I can get from other people and now I have to get hustled and hassled by THESE CLOWNS? They're not keeping anyone safe, they're doing the states work. Extracting more money out of the American taxpayer. I'd be happier with the mob. At least you could pay for protection.

I had it in under my arms, I would have died the next month because I fell into to ocean. If they never showed me then I would have me stuck upside down the the preserver

Here in NY, The regi numbers are also a big deal. i have a jetski and a smallish bass boat. they have to be able to be seen and the space between the characters must be equal. Btw what the difference between a Wake bait and a crankbait?

I live off Coeur D Alene lake which has become so crowded but that is not why I avoid the lake like the plague I was pulled over twice fir safety check trying to enjoy nature and you have police harassing boaters I will stick to the mountains they only come up there during hunting season and I usually am not any where they are

Imho I think boat’s with just a trolling motor should have to be tagged in Texas I have to pay $32 to put a trolling motor on a 12 foot plastic John boat I bought for less than $100 I could just tow or paddle it but I’m not sure how long I would last with my heart condition

I think yo zuri discontinued their wake baits, I may be wrong but no where is selling them anymore. I’ve switched to strike king wake baits and just replace the hooks

@@southernsalt so far so good but with them being bass lures the hooks they come with start to rust after one use even if you rinse them off afterwards. I’ve also ordered a 6th sense wake bait because it’s a bigger profile than the strike king’s 2.5”
Law enforcement officers can't help themselves. They MUST ALWAYS give a directive. The lettering on the side of your KAYAK is fine. No where does it state that it has to be a contrasting colour. It must be distinguishable from a specified distance. (Distance varies from state to state)

I seen it said the other day the law enforcement for Alabama is for the most part some of the best in the country. Those guys there proved that exact thing. They’re doing a job preserving our wildlife for future generations and for our own generation because without em we wouldn’t have a fishery now.

Do you ever save the throats of the redfish? That’s my favorite part of redfish, the saltwater quail they call it.
Yeah I use the throats great meat and I got a rubber net but when those fish roll it gets caught up in it. Definitely agree with you on our marinepolice… top notch!

I don't think it's worth a fine, but I do understand that people will game the system and it helps the authorities if numbers are visible from a distance. Here in Pennsylvania it is an old tradition to wear your fishing license on your hat. People have no idea how often a fish cop looks at your license through binoculars, watches you for a while to make sure nothing obviously illegal is happening, and doesn't even bother you. It happens all the time and no one even knows.

I love running into the Game Wardens. Sometimes I wish they had a higher presence. There have been times I've witnessed poaching and there was nothing anyone could do about it. There are a few old honey holes that have been decimated by poachers and people keeping every single fish they catch, no matter the size or species.
I'm trying to convince at least one of my kids to become a Warden.

It's a money racket unjustified tax. It is a physical impossibility for hook and line guys to even make a dent in fish populations in salt water fisheries. Only commercial netting can over kill stocks. Tell the uesless lawmakers to focus on nets, not hooks.

No.... But I have compelling proof. Look at any gopro footage of mangrove snapper under a dock or peir. Them multiple that by MILLIONS. Literally a million million..... a TRILLION mangrove snapper that are reproducing at a rate of doubling every seven years.... And you think there should be any regulations on those fish? People that buy rods, gas, tackle and have one day a week to fish should have to throw back 9.5 inch mangroves because there's a real threat to the population if everyone keeps small mangroves? When there's a trillion? No way...
Then there's sea trout. A MUCH more delicate population.... They limit the top end? Anyone that's filet trout knows two 16" small trout have the same amount of eggs a one 23" trout. But 99% of fisherman won't catch a 23" trout their whole lives. But every Tom, Dick and Harry can catch 15" & 16".... Why not allow trout at 19"-24" with one over 24" to be harvested and PROTECT a gazillion small trout? Same for flounder..... It was 12". I think they raised it to 15".....still to small. If you wanna regulate, regulate effectively.
Senator Marco Rubio said it best..... "I'm all for regulations. But I want them based on SOUND SCIENCE." Right now, the people making the laws are biased influenced by lobbyists, unknowledgeable about our waters and the fish in them and have no clue about the biggest threats to fish which is street run off pollution .... not week end fishermen with a hook.

I'm very confused. A kayak becomes a boat when you put a trolling motor on it but a bicycle doesn't become a motorcycle with an electric or gas motor is added. Must be something to do with water.
This is the number 2 reason I got rid of my kayak. Ain't no way I'm paying to register it. The first person to put a trolling motor on a kayak and then register it is an idiot. I would've of told them to pound sand.

Perfect example of how an interaction with dept of wildlife and fisheries should go. Treat them with professionalism and courtesy and they'll do the same so long as you're following the rules and aren't showing your tail. They're there to make sure everyone is playing on a level playing field while promoting safety and conservation of our resources. The best interactions i've had with them have taken two minutes tops to make sure I'm squared away on my bag limits and license then usually another 5-10 minutes just chatting about the fishing conditions, work, etc.

Always appreciate their safety checks. There's not that many wardens in our area.. it won't take long for them to know .. leave that man alone he's always legal. I only get checked by new wardens? very rarely now. And they do give you a piece of paper stating that you have passed the inspection. If another Warden stops you? simply present that paper. They realize right away you're a legal operator and they will usually just let you go on your way without delay.
They have always treated me with dignity, and respect. As I have treated them.
