This is the route my stepdad ran my whole life for first Hollywood Marine then Kirby bought them & he stayed till he passed . From Houston to Mississippi & back . He passed in 08’ . Thanks for posting this ❤️. You miss a lot of life riding these boats but Kirby does pay well & you just do holidays when they are home 🏡. He was 20 on and 10 off since I was 5 years old back when we would talk to him on the merchant mariners CB radio before cell phones . 1985-2008 . From deckhand to Captain. RIP T.L.C. 1943-2008
Love the music. Made a fool of myself in Baton rouge booked in by the bridge and said to the girl what river is that. I had driven 280 miles went down to Tabby Thomas . Blues club in the night good times thank you USA
The best and worst 12 years of my life were on those boats, have some opinions about Kirby but I'll just keep them to myself. Now I been driving 18 wheelers for 5 years now seen all of 48 states, seen some crazy shit but nothing compares to being on the boats.
@@kadeo1238 you miss a lot of life . Did you stick with it? It’s a good career but you will later regret not being there for family in the end. My dad did at least.
Another GREAT video! This is the absolute best way to film towboating, realtime just doesn't work at these speeds. Your videos are a terrific record of these classic modern runs.
Houston to Baton Rouge by way of Port Allen Route is 353 miles at 5mph is 70.5 hours with no delays. It’s a 105hrs if you go through New Orleans. Again with no delays and averaging 5mph
This is a Great speed for tow boat videoing, for sure. You can See what’s actually happening much better making it way more interesting..!!! ✅ I ran small Tugboats pushing rock barges in a rock quarry in Miami back in the first half of 1970, along with the Draglines & Clamshell Cranes, Lima 2400s, I thought about doing This Quite often but ended up flying night freight instead, DC-3s, DC-4, B727 & B747s and the like ✈️👨✈️
Did that route with Hollywood before Kirby bought them. Had a Mississippi crew and when we would get into the ICW we would lower the Texas flag and hoist up the Mississippi flag. Fun until we pulled into Channelview with the Texas flag upside down one time. No disrespect, just changing out the flags too fast in the dark, but we got yelled at.

Are you the one that was on the mississippi river
Driving like a Boss!
It amazes me that a vessel that big moves that fast! And it handles like it's on Rails. Faster and more agile than my 40+ Hatteras !
Excelente vídeo.I Want to do it from Brownsville,Tx , thanks for sharing
