Yes from 1:35 -1:40 I put a note on the video pointing to that same fish explaining that it’s part of a radio tag research study that’s going on for the passage of the salmon up the river. There are actually 2 in this group. I had thought it was fishing line as well but had it explained to me once I inquired with folks that study these fish.
Thanks for these fantastic videos and your patience. I often wonder what the fish look like in their natural environment and appreciate you giving us that view. Please keep up the fantastic work!
Your videos are pretty damn cool, have you ever gone to East Grand Lake, I grew up there and would love to see what’s in bottom of Greenland Cove’s deep hole , amazing footage just the same !!
Thanks! And yes I have definitely thought about and plan on checking out that area. Where I caught my pb lake trout and for sure would like to see what’s down there as well!
It’s wonderful to see Atlantic salmon in the river. I hope they are all successful in breeding. We have a camp on North Twin Lake in the Pemadumcook chain of lakes. I would love to see a video of the channel from Ambejejus to North Twin where Great Northern’s log boats ran. There are lots of depth changes, a high sandbar off Litte Porus Island, & the used to be lots of fish on the log route. Also interesting would be the channel from the old Boom House on Ambejejus at the mouth of where the Penobscot enters the lake to the deepest part over 110’. The museum at the Boom House is very interesting.
I agree and hope they are successful too! That area is definitely one I’m interested in, I’m just not real familiar with it. I know there’s a ton of history there and I appreciate mentioning a couple areas as that gives me an idea of where I could start. I had done a nighttime mission to where the river comes in this spring and got some footage of the smelts running and checked some of the area out front where it dumps in to Ambajejus but that’s been about as far as I’ve gotten there.
Great video - I’m in Maine also & have the V6s. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to send my video feed into my DJI Goggles (version 1) & I got it to work. I use my iPhone 15 to connect to the V6s, & then connect my phone to a USB-C Hyperdrive (it has HDMI out) & I connect that to the goggles (mini or micro HDMI input). 👍
@Asymmetrical-Saggin glad you enjoy the videos! I’ve always been one to target trout myself although it is fun to play with the bass with the camera once in a while as they’re usually willing to participate! Looking forward to fall and some cooler weather and will be putting some solid effort on some nice trout in all their spawning colored glory. I’ve got some good spots all picked out I think and I’m sure others will show up on my radar too.
I am presuming that those are adult salmon returning from the ocean. Is that correct? Are there and hatchery raised salmon being released into the Penobscot or its tributaries? I wouldn’t expect released fish from this year to be that big unless they are from previous releases and are returning. I don’t know! 🫤 Great footage!
I can’t say whether or not these fish weren’t at one time hatchery fish as they released several thousand small ones a few different times over the years that I can recall not far upstream from here but these are definitely adult fish returning from the ocean so that’s a positive thing to see some returns coming back! Once they come up through the Penobscot and through the Milford Dam fish elevator they have several different places they can go from there. I guess it just depends on where their instinct takes them, usually where they were born or stocked if that was the case.
@@MFEGoingDeep hi can they go above that dam? is there a Fish LAdder?> I love this stuff I am in Massachusetts but been up to Kineo and Moose head lake outlet for the Kennebec there are big Atlantic Salmon there I would love to see a video near the dam on Moosehead lake near Wilson's on Moosehead !
Yes they’re able to make it over when they’re ready to do it. Definitely am looking to check out some more spots on the kennebec especially where you mentioned! I drive by it while heading to different spots on Moosehead and definitely will have a look there eventually!
Yeah the river is definitely warm, I was surprised they would be that far up already I figured it wouldn’t be until like September or so. This spot was actually cooler water compared to the rest of the surrounding river which was around 74°.
They will feed into the 70-71F range. It isn't the ideal temp as that's more between 57-66F. Still though, They're not brook trout, they are more adapt to a little warmer water. Active water is key. They will hang around falls/in the pools after ripples and runs. Lots of oxygen in that turbulent water, even at 69F. Granted the younger they are the less ideal it is for them, at that temp. Loving the vids. Just found your channel and am enjoying these as a fellow Mainer and avid trout fisherman. Bass are fun to catch too but not my target lol. Have been some nice ones in your vids though, lol.
From about 2:00 - 2:17 there is a fish with what appears to be a length of monofilament leading from/to its mouth.

No worries! Glad you like the videos 👍

Thank you! I appreciate it and definitely enjoy this and looking forward to more 👍
That was awesome thanks for sharing
This was a fun one for sure
Your videos just keep getting better, more interesting. Really enjoyed your Piscataquis River set. Thanks!
Thanks I appreciate that!

good evening, so stunning picture-
I'm happy to be seeing salmon in the rivers again. I'm hoping they do well this year!
I agree and hope so as well!

I was wondering what is known about the history/origin of these particular fish, but I guess they ain't talkin.
Were the two videos taken above or below the Mayo Mills Dam in Dover-Foxcroft?
Both were taken the below side of that dam

69 degrees is not a good temperature for salmon. There is some stress involved.
