"have the courage to play it as if you wrote it" I totally agree. And I too love how they make the songs they cover their own. But even more cool is that if you watch them sing any particular song in different performances, you'll see there are differences each time. So whether you're watching them busk, or watching them sing in their apartment or on a roof, etc. each performance is unique. I just love that.
It's great stuff isn't it. Real in the moment magic.
This one lifts me up every time I watch. There's a joy in their music when they're performing as a group.

Ren nearly always uses multiple cameras, even in his live 1 takes. He did the same with the Big Push's live, non-busking, videos. As well as doing all the production, of course. He was their, not so, secret weapon! :)
I was just thinking filming multiple cameras in such a narrow space would be a logistic nightmare. Although not impossible.

I don't think they can do a cover exactly following the original ;) I recognize this in myself, following a set formula never works for me, to follow a recipe, a pattern or whatever.. I start off fine, but soon my neurodivergent brain branches out automatically and comes up with its own ingredients and modifications even though I don't want it to!

Have you checked out their rendition of 'Praise You'? It's funny you mention harmonies and even the Beatles as there are certain aspects of it where Ren reminds me of a young McCartney and man, their harmonies in it are just something else!

The smile on your thumbnail says it all!! 💕 This is one of my favorites. I realize I say that a lot, but this one gives me a boost. They do a great job putting their own personal flair whenever they do covers or mashups. And you can just feel their joy in performing together. Hopefully Ren’s health will allow him to do live performances again. I bet his misses it terribly!
This was filmed by Samuel Perry-Falvey and yes, it was a one take. What they often do when they have different camera angles is shoot it live, but then utilize some B roll shots to add some visual interest. I believe this was another one just filmed in their apartment building.
The funny joke about this video/cover is it’s an Englishman, Welshman, and Frenchman. If Glen was there, then add an Irishman to the list 😼 It was fun seeing Ren and friends enjoy NYC recently as a late birthday celebration / work trip.

Izzy, I love their version of Sting’s song. I have it on my playlist and must listen to it at least twice a week, you did a nice reaction. The doggie is a nice touch. The also chose clothing very Brit like to this American!

I don’t think this is a one shot, for the same reasons that you thought. But the hatmonies are exquisite. Glad those skinny pants wrnt out of fashion! Must have been early days of the band,you think? Ren is so thin and his face puffy from nedications, probably. I don’t know why i akways notice these things. But in comparison, he looks so much more mature and healthy these days. He is dropping a new song May 9th, called Troubles. Background track is Troubles so hard ,original sample from Vera Hall .Ren is telling his story in song for the first time.
This feels like an earthquake coming.
I kinda like 'em! But to quote Oscar Wilde; “A fashion is merely a form of ugliness so unbearable that we are compelled to alter it every six months.”
Will be interesting to hear the new tune. He's had a lot of autobiographical songs already though, right?

These three were doing vocal harmonies equal to the best pop boy bands, equal to Crosby, Stills and Nash and Sweet Honey In The Rock. All three of them multi-instrumentalist, all of them writers, engaging street performers, we wish they had a Dylanesque never ending tour. Glen could expand his kit, he's a damn good drummer, btw, quick and light but he can hit hard when he needs to.They could open for Dylan and Stevie Wonder or pick your favorite rock legend still touring, The Stones, god bless them. Dave Brock would try to recruit them to Hawkwind. The kind of future talented hard working young rockers can realistically look forward to.
It would be cool! I would be very surprised if it's the last we see of them.

The Big Push always seemed to be able to pull a song back to essentials, and then rebuild it with their own "Pushiness". Thanks Izzy! I don't think you've done the FatBoy Slim cover of "Praise You". Or maybe you could try an original, "It's Alright" (The Big Push video, not the other (one? two?) by Ren with the same title.

I’m not sure but if it is multiple takes whoever did the editing did a fantastic job of it because if there are cuts they’re indiscernible to the casual viewer.
