I understand but it’s gonna take less time to adjust, sounds weird but basically shaders are getting a bug buff that lets you see *every* , you might not gain new favorites necessarily but it’s gonna be way less complicated to get used to because if you apply the current strat (for ex.) of looking for reds on the top well now they’ve tweaked it so maybe less reds will be where you are looking for them allowing for a quicker decision, it’s gonna be funny if refurbished black armory still shows all gray and no red, gonna have fun discovering just how many customization options can actually use the secret red on that shader if they don’t forget
I can't believe people genuinely think this update will be WORSE than what we have. Current shader previews are unbelievably inaccurate, as Bungie stated, each shader has six colors, but only four are displayed. Jacarina is a great example, as the blue is completely absent in the preview icon. I'm super excited for this!
Talking about jacarina and colours not being displayed in the old system, it also has red in it. Which not many people know about still, since it appears on so few weapons/armour (cuirass of the falling star). Which is even more crazy. The new system is going to be amazing for things like this. And I can almost guarantee there are going to be a few people that learn that red is actually in Jacarina. It's just going to take a little getting used to. But it's not as complicated as people think.
I'm not hating on anything, but the new shader icon looks too busy for me. You got the original square with four colors plus the big diamond in the middle with two arrows, one at the top and one at the bottom to show the glow. And on top of all that you got the label showing which season it came from (except vanilla). Maybe reducing the size of the diamond will solve the issue...
I don't understand why they didn't do 6 rectangles with primaries being twice as wide as secondary colors. ::: metal 1 ... metal 2 ... glow 1 ::: leather 1 ... leather 2 ... glow 2 ::: fabric 1 ... fabric 2 You would essentially remove all the spacing between the dots and fill them with material color/texture in a bar the width of our existing shader preview icon.
I genuinely learned something from this video and now believe the new shader icons are gonna be better. Pretty good little explanation video that not a lot of other content creators talk about. You should do more like this man. Good stuff.👍🏻
my only worry is that it’ll feel too overwhelming trying to find shaders in the future, but this fixes easily the bigger issue with shaders that’s been around for a while. Here’s hoping they make some kind of explanation on what the sections shade in game.
This will really help distinguish the primary and secondary metal and cloth variants more, which i really like. As a Warlock Player many robes just do what they want, so knowing what color the primaries and secondaries are is gonna be real nice
hi there Skarrow, you properly don't get this often but i just want to say before i watch the vid that i was depressed for months and i binged watch your videos and streams out of boresome and my depression has tuned down quite a lot. i just wanna say thank you and i appreciate what you do.
did you see my feedback on your twitter post ? had a bunch of ideas but the main one was having the color matched with their brand of the shader where its from with those brands changing colors to blend with the colors of the shader effects like glows would show up on the border i also said we should get color cycling aka changing where the colors are actually applied 1 shader = 4 diffrent looks
Yeah I always forget what is what and so I always had to apply the shaders to see what looks cooler and what not but with this it will be much more easy!
if your argument is i wont be able to find my favorite shader 1 the new icon shows all the colors 2 you have the favorite system 3 learning a bad system isnt reason to not have the system improved upon edit: the glow will be interesting you can see that some of the showing shaders have 2 colors on top and bottom for fading wavy esk shaders im curious how photo finish will look in the glow session of the shader since its full rgb
I'm not everyone, I paused the video and can identify most of the shaders Bungie released that I have favorited by the new icon... And a couple I need to favorite now that I know how they appear to apply. I like it and see the new icons as a W.
Yeah the only pain will be readjusting but this will be much better. I remember being hyped for that Empire Hunt shader I think it's guilded smoke (I think) and it's black, Grey, and deep blue and Bam! All of a sudden a random gold I'm like bruhhhh. So this will be much better in the long run
So I hated the change, because on first glance it looks like they threw a icon on top of the icon they already had but on further examination they actually did a fantastic job with them. Now my only complaint is the cloth part of the icon is terrible to read as depicted
"These new symbols will be annoying" *Has to learn 20 diffrent symbols ,call outs and everything inbetween for raids* "This is easy makes the raid more interesting." Ah yes the destiny community just cant be happy about anything no matter what, as usual.
This is a really good update, people just HATE change. I don't love that it shows the regular shader icon in the background cause it's visually very busy but I can easily get over it.
@@rithvikmuthyalapati9754 Plenty of people don't like it because they memorized the icons and now they're changing it and they say it's too overwhelming. Acting like that's not an opinion is weird lol
Oh my gosh people will legit be mad at anything, this is a huge QoL update and people are upset that they'll have to memorize things again when... not really, it'll just show what the shader does. We have to memorize them now because they are so inaccurate.
yea the only "valid" reason is just remembering what favorite shader icons look like but in the long run it'll be better people will stop complaining and caring after a bit when the change comes
The issue isn't the stupid icon, it's the lacking of both explanation in game & accuracy of the icon. There are shaders that have random colors that aren't seen in their icons as you've also shown. Either they need to make a more consistent coloring system that accurately depicts shaders as well as makes them recognizable (they're trying..... to no avail.) or just scrap shaders & let us pick from different palettes like DOOM 2016 or maybe like Warframe but I think DOOM 2016 does it all best.
The most obnoxious shader in the game right now is Royal Dye, in the preview there is Black/White/Light Orange/Light Yellow but for some reason when you aplly it most of the armor turn purple and red, which neither are in the preview
Can I be honest for a second. Smudgepot bruse has one of the nicest blues out of all the shaders but that damn black on metal is uber annoying with the symbols all over it
lemme just say, if ANYONE is currently complaining that "were so used to the old pics, now I gotta learn the new ones" I'd laugh in there face and tell them to go find something, ANYTHING else to do. This shouldve happpened while ago and imo looks great. Welcome change if its for the better
I think the new shader icons are fine, gonna take some getting used to though, for me at least. Also, Bungie please, for the love of the traveler, add a search feature for shaders. I don't know anything about game development or design, but I can't imagine its that difficult to add a search bar for shaders. I hate having to scroll through multiple pages of shaders to find what I'm looking for.
Who in the fuck is upset about this? I sent this to my clan and we wer all hyped and like the change. As a "designer" they really made it easier to understand the shader.
I think most of us players actually like the change it'll have, just we love it got stoked carried on while those fewer that hate it they love to bicker thrice a day so it just seems like a lot hate it but really its a well recieved change we'll be getting. I can't tell you how excited I am to tell things at a glance more instead of always changing my look and right clicking, mouse move, right click, move, repeat for the laods of shaders in the game. it gets so tiresome

The updates great. People just complain for absolutely nothing. The current symbols are useless. Just favourite your shaders. Job done. Absolute non issue
I don't mind the new icons but I will say and I know I'm gonna trigger a lot of ppl but they really need the bring the old shaders back so everyone can get them again. Ik you had to be there to get it but you know I feel the same way about having VoG, King's Fall, and Crota being added to d2. How come they brought them back I thought you had to be there to experience it and it ruins veterans. Honestly bringing back a few shaders is nothing compared to bringing back a full raid even if the mechanics are changed.
