I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but it's worth noting that Dungeon Meshi is actually a Seinen, not a Shonen. This is important because whilst both can easily have their similarities, being a Seinen means that the author knows they're writing for a more mature audience, meaning that you're not really gonna get the frequent stuff like cheap fan-service shots for teen boys, or that vibe of action being the most important aspect.
That isn't what makes Dungeon Meshi a good show though. What makes it a good show is that it focuses exactly on what it's good at, which is both the character writing and world building. You got a little taste of the character writing for this episode, and as always, it'll be about the amazing and creative ways food is cooked in this show... but let's just say that there's bigger reasons you'll find out on why Dungeon Meshi is one of my favourite manga of all time.
No fan service, so it a boring anime then. Jk, though honestly, unsure why that matter to say anyway. An anime be fun no matter what, as long as it enjoyed.

@@galonski64it needs to be said because expectations are made and met that way. Authors write series knowing it goes towards a particular magazine with a particular audience, and editors criticize in this context as well. So we as the audience can discern accordingly too

Animal fear actually does change the flavorof meat like lamb and cow, thats why the kills are so quick. Apparently has to do with adrenaline flooding its system etc

this one not sure if they will animate and tell in the show so will say it. there is a side chapter that goes into what is classified as humans. tallfolk are not called humans since "humans" apply to elves, dwarves, gnomes, tallfolk, oni and half foots. demi humans are more monstrous humanoids like mermen, kobolds, orcs and such. so whats the difference? they mention what is human is the number of bones in the body. the ones under "humans" have the same number of bones where the others varies. they mention oni if they are human due to the horns on their heads and the reply was the horns grow from the skull, not a separate bone that develops on its own.

While people are hyped for solo leveling which is essentially just another reverse isekai power fantasy. This is the actual best show of the season.

Wanted to write it on the first episode reaction but here we are. Thank you for reacting to this series. It's one of my favorite manga ever. It's like Golden Kamui for fantasy. Since you are watching now this and Frieren, keep an eye on Witch Hat Atelier. I dont know when adaptation is going to come out but it in the works.

Regarding the episode. I hope in the future they keep to two chapters per episode, because they skipped a little on some character moments, trivia and cooking. I kind of understand the want to combine these three chapters in one because of the same theme of usefullness. Not a big deal or anything.
Example without spoiler, people in DM know that the main head of the Basilisk is the snake because when chopped off it's stays alive but the chiken dies.
(edit) Btw the antidote is just some medicinal herbs. This is one of the skipped things.

I know it in jest, but i want you guys to inmagine a food you dont want to eat. Though are even more understandable, maybe you dont like liver, or spinosh. Maybe it more common like disliking mushroom, onion or pepperoni. The food is good or such but still wont eat. In the anime, it monsters, it not like a cow or chicken, we grew up just use to eating.
Unrelated to this, but on your Home page there is a song/album named Lamp. Is that you guys on the cover? It kinda looks like it but its says 2004, so I was confused.

I've been watching this anime til episode two. I love it so far. But I don't like Marcille Donato. She's annoying. I hope she gets better later on, but the character is annoying as hell. I can't STAND Marcille Donato as a character in this.
She is the most normal out of all of them lol.
Cuz i'd think 5 times before eating a snake with a chicken as a tail, or a screaming plant with a creepy face lol
Perhaps you take the show too serious, it’s an adventure comedy and having fun, it wasn’t meant to be serious, so let’s just have fun!
All of the characters have more depth than what you see now, perhaps the reason why you dislike Marcille was because she’s always complaining about the food? Her character mainly serve as a gag in the earlier chapters, I slightly dislike her during early chapters too, but I grow to really like her after learning more about her.

@@grainnmertens Exactly, regular people get queezy about eating meats they are not familiar with especially if they were attacked by the very meat when it was still alive, mandrakes here might as well be the equivalent of burdockroot, Jerusalem artichoke and/or fingerling potatoes, but the simple fact that they have faces and look eerily humanlike while being able to scream a lethal toxin, can be unerving to anyone consider eating especially if they given the "head" to eat. Im one of those crazy few who wouldn't think twice about stuffing my face with food, no matter what its made from so long as its good, but i can totally understand how someone can be very on the fence on the idea of eating literal monsters.
She's not my favorite (and I've read the wole manga) but I think it should be ok if you dislike her because we're still on the very early levels and the characters and ambience are gonna change a lot and we will see lots of sides to these characters we hadn't seen before. Marcille has layers like the other characters and she will get a lots of interesting development later on.
Marcille wont turn into a whole other character but she wont stay as someone who overreacts everytime they eat a monster meal just because "it's monster and she doesn't want to eat monster guys" basically
