I never heard of Dungeon Meshi before the winter anime season, but I started watching it and I fell in love with everything. I finished the manga a few days ago and it became one of my favorite stories ever!!

(Well I mean it is a comedy… but still Trauma with capital T)
This show got EVERYTHING together!

Yes, it's all fun, jokes and food untill the sh** goes like Kentaro Miura's Berserk mode.
Don't let the first episodes fool you, this show is going places! You'll love the main characters and their relation to each other, the story is evolving quite a bit and the worldbuilding is beautfiul and fascinating. It's incredibly how much thought and care Ryoko Kui put into this story - and studio Trigger are doing her and her story justice!

I fully did not expect to love this show as much as I did.

To be perfectly honest, the first couple episodes weirded me out a lot, but I was just too curious about where the story was headed. I think what bothered me was how death was treated by all the characters as a trivial thing. Hanging a corpse in plain view while eating, talking about carnivorous plants planting their seeds in living beings, and other things like that.
But in the following episodes, I understood why it was the way it was, and the animation as well as the worldbuilding are frankly amazing. It's now one of my favorite animes.

Very glad you're doing this one. It's a truly great show, and aside from the humor there's amazing world building and all of the ecology details are extremely clever and fun.
I'm loving this anime, it's almost exactly the type of story I enjoy. As someone who loves fantasy having this and Frieren at the same time was crazy.

Laios sister falin coincidentally shares the same va as Yor Forger (Saori Hayami). Fun fact! Laios english va is Damien from Smosh and Marcille's is Emily Rudd who played Nami in live-action One Piece.
man, that is so wild to think folks can recognize japanese voices, especially in singing! Seriously, the music video for Sleepwalking Orchestra is one of the most magical things I think I've ever seen on these 38 years of my life~
Manga Completionist here, I've seen a lot of folks watching this, and being late to the show is no issue at all, apparently there's a _bunch_ of good titles out there (I've only found this and JJK enjoyable, but my tastes are VERY strict because I am kind of a pain in the ass)
A little trivia for you heading forward, since you're just getting started, creator Ryoko Kui's vision here is mostly very Western-fantasy inspired, like D&D directly, and a few sick rules she's cooked up herself (seeeee what I did there~) so all the characters and such you see in the outro/intro will come into play and I can't wait to supply manga-only details here and there ✨
As with anything in this episode.. just know that even walking mushrooms get their time in this story! Also, you CAN eat scorpions in real life, same as crustaceans usually, there's just not much to 'em. With scorpions, the bigger they are, the less poisonous they tend to be, so!

That's the beauty of it, it is both a comedy and a gritty fantasy
Dungeon meshi is amaaazing. 2 things going in, yeah you should absolutely eat before watching or eat while watching lol. And second, the first few episodes make Marcille look a little lame/goofy so that she can shine even brighter later.
