Leave it be, display it, keep it in the family. Maybe loan it to the HOF for display.

I would have bought the bat because i go to yard sales and look for ‘baseball stuff’ I hope if she sells it down the road, that she he cuts him a chunk of the money or something for him being so honest! Remember Chris on “The King of Collectibles” they sold a Jackie Robinson bat for a little over $1 million? It was in much better condition of course, but still this bat should easily get $200K, especially with the provenance of her Uncle.

That is an amazing story! I am glad she decided to keep it. I see no reason to "restore" it. It should be preserved. Great video!

Would also love to see the markings on the knob of the bat, if still visible. The articles online indicate only the name Jackie Robinson on the barrel and a larger knob, which store models also have. I guess I'll have to wait until the Antiques Roadshow airs to get that detail.

Hope they have that bat professionally cleaned, whatever they do with it in the end. Would be a shame to damage it, and professional cleaning would significantly increase the value and beauty of the piece, as you mentioned. Any of the major auction houses could help her arrange that. Incredible story and glad the garage saler got the provenance and didn’t just buy it with a crisp fiver. Thanks for the video!

Why is your Tiger Woods card upside-down? 😂 Anyway, the whole point of going to garage sales is to get a great deal on something you can use or something you can flip and make a small/large profit. I think "if ya snooze ya lose." Do your research before you sell something, and this won't happen. IMO. Love watching your vids take care

How fortuitous even unbelievable that a Jackie Robinson bat expert would happen to be at that particular garage sale in if all places Iowa. You’re a better man than me Mike- my dream is to find something like this at a Garage sale- for that reason I would have enthusiastically bought it for a dollar-heck yeah! Amazing story- not sure if I’d clean it up though.

Unbelievable, literally. I'm a little skeptical as the knob does not look anything like the Jackie Robinson gamers on the PSA site. This could very well be (and likely is) a store model bat. They go for less than $100. Hopefully the Antique Roadshow "experts" know the difference.

@@gametimegallery7661 Jackie used a huge bat, his R17 model which was made specifically for him. The only thing that helps is that the womans uncle played for the Dodgers with Jackie so there is some tie between them, but if this was just a random person I would bet my life it was a store model. Have to see the size of it, Jackie used a 36 ounce bat. If it was a real game used bat it would be well into the 6 figures.

I would have bought it for $1. It's the seller's responsibility to know what they have. That being said, I appreciate that so many would tell her.
What would I do? I would keep it. I'd sell it if the price was likely to be life changing money. Even if she gets $75k, after fees and taxes, it'll be significantly less than that.

Beginning to think that sports collectibles aren't in Antique Roadshow's wheelhouse. Their estimates are always far below market value. Stick to paintings and vases.

I find it odd that the 'expert' advice she's been given is to clean up the bat.
In most areas of antique collecting this can destroy the value and ruin the item, as there's patina that's been built up over decades/centuries.
I wouldn't clean the bat - unless doing so removes the post-Robinson 'damage' - and given the family played with the bat as kids, I doubt she will.
Great AFF. Thank you for sharing.
    Have a great weekend. 👍
