I want to see what happens if the timer reaches zero
The Phoenix always rises from the ashes.
Hey there STFU,just wanted to ask.Since you use a lot of AdultSwim and IMDB tittles as your "voicelines" is it possible to watch any of them on those websites?Cause I really do not use TV,can't bother searching for any specific channel just to watch a single show.
In my opinion the best, most well produced high quality VR game ever made. Quadruple A quality
@@Dumb_Furry_UwU CONCURED!
"Ohhh, I forgot the key."
Normal people: hitting restart from pause menu.
STFU: *TWENTY EIGHT STAB WOUNDS*
STFU: what to do what to do *picks up screwdriver* I know what I must do! I MUST FUFILL MY DESTINY! *stabing wounds later*
Hahahaha!
28 to the face*😂
Here's to Agent Phoenix - because if any of us had to face such an ungodly amount of lasers, bombs, poisons, fires and scorpions on a daily basis, we'd all be binge-drinking chain-smokers too.
"Agent, without power you'll fall!"
[Agent shrugs, lights one final cigar, presses the button daintily, waves at Zor and flips him off as he falls]
*THE BALLS ON THIS MAN*
With John Juniper's part fully revealed not as "the central mastermind behind a world domination conspiracy", but merely as "an actor hired by the evil organization to play a bit role, but who bought so much of his own hype that he falsely assumed both that he was the main star and that he was always in control of every situation", I can weigh in on my earlier fears about Will Wheaton playing a key role in this installment of I Expect You To Die:
Wheaton has decades of experience playing this type of character (sometimes accidentally/obliviously, such as Wesley on Star Trek TNG, and sometimes as a tongue-in-cheek gag, such as the many times he cameos on geek-demographic series as an exaggerated version of himself), and for what his character is expected to do in this game, he nails the part perfectly.
10/10, would steal his mask(s) again
Yes, Wheaton was the Best choice for John's voice
It's official- this guy knows how to throw a party and practically go "...eh, I can live with that" while tossing his own life for countless others.
Yet he did not die, as his name implies.
Agent: *is getting shot at
Also Agent: *casually lights cigar and inhales deeply
Priorites man, priorites.
Standard secret training training
that's such a badass image
Agent: *smoke comes out of the bullet holes in his body* Did you miss me?
@@S0renz *finishes his puff* I guess not!
Handler: But Agent, without power, you'll fall to your death!
Agent: Oh, you of all people should know, when it comes to dying, I live to disappoint.
Such a good comment. Dunno how to describe it other than that. A wonderful thing.
The title of the game is about how you are expected to die. Yet at every turn phoenix doesnt. (If we dont count all those hilarious mistakes)
Its wonderful. Truly they live to disappoint others in that venture
Ok, if there was ever any proof that you are the perfect person to let’s play this game, that ending takes the cake. This persona you’ve crafted of this alcoholic badass-who faces lasers, sawblades, and sharks on standby with a simple breathe of a cigar-could not have been more perfect for this series.
Because that fucking ending, just the slow buildup as the timer ticked down, then the fact you didn’t even hesitate when the cost became clear. But that final scene man, where you just reached for the cigar, you could fucking picture the smile on your face as you pushed the button. The only way that ending could have been better was if you found wine somewhere in the level, and in that brief slowdown where everything flew through the air, you reached over and caught the wine out of the air.
Edit: On review, I’d like to appreciate the buildup of Dr. Zor for a minute. We haven’t seen or even heard from them at all up until this point, just passing references to this “Dr. Zor,” building up this sheer presence in the universe. Then in the final mission of IEYTD 1, there’s a simple call in the background, and in the space of 15 seconds your situation has been dramatically endangered and you are nearly killed in a massive explosion. Then in this game we hear passing rumors that Dr. Zor is interested in you for some unexplained reason.
Finally in this final climatic moment, with their identity on the line, we finally hear from them directly, modulated of course. And all they do is dispatch John Juniper with relative ease, not even blocking your attempt to stop the launch and their plans of domination, only counting down the clock, until at the moment when your fate is sealed, they express interest, and the shoe drops. Their plans of world domination are at stake, they could very easily distract you, sabotage your efforts somehow, yet all they do is keep the same pressure. They don’t seem to care about their plans being foiled, or finally disposing of the rat in their woodwork, only you. And that’s more terrifying than any plot Zoraxis can concoct. IEYTD 3 is going to be amazing, I can already tell.
Edit2: Corrected some ambiguities of Zor
I'm actually guessing that doctor Zor is a woman the first song suggests that the voice that is distorted but you cans still here a female voice suggests that
But that's just my personal theory
@@uhohmemebiggestboy212 Good point, but we can’t know for certain. I’ll correct the pronouns to reflect this lack of info.
If dr Zor is actually a woman. I swear I could somehow feel my stupid little fan theory would coming true
Imagine being able to take over the world but being stopped by a smug, alcoholic smoker who doesn’t even talk. I may not have watched the first game, but I can say for sure that I’m excited for the future.
..Although some of that excitement might be for reuniting with our narrator friend 😅 idk man, he just grew on me so quickly.
I’m getting a “Carmon Sandiago” vibe from Dr. Zor, in that, yes, they’re willing to do anything to take over the world, but it’s not about the power, it’s about the CHALLENGE.
They’re the “to smart to be normal” kind of person, but ultimately will accept defeat if it means that they’re able to be challenged mentally by someone they consider a intellectual equal.
Can't wait for the third game already, your acting combined with the humor of the game is just perfect.
agreed.
The screwdriver bit was my favorite ever
Bro I love these
I have to say, I hope the third game goes like this:
Agent phoenix wakes up without his memories, some agents of the Zoraxis make him join the bad side and we do missions to regain our memory so we can destroy zoraxis from the inside
Cool plot right?
@@lorigamer8736 yeah
Let's take a moment to admire Phoenix. This man is probably an anomaly capable of of redoing specific sequences of events, not only allowing him to learn from his mistakes and overcome seemingly impossible situations with outlandishly specific situations, he's cheated death more times that should be even possible. I can't wait to see what this mysterious alcoholic arsonist comes back as in the third game... that ending was spine chilling.
Being able to return/restart after death is an incredibly useful power that can give you a near-unprecedented power growth rate, but that power is only useful in a position where you are at a major risk of dying regularly on the job.
The power is almost pointless if you don't even learn that you have it until after you've retired.
Good thing the enhanced operatives division got to agent Phoenix before the SCP foundation did, or Zor would have won back at the death engine.
@@jackmoseley4959 Phoenix would've found a way to not get captured.
In the third game they should make it so that you can move around the map
Even though he doesn't speak, the audio he uses, and his gestures just defines his personality by themself
The last briefing made me cry. The poor man sounds genuinely destroyed about Phoenix being gone, trying to hide it with as much professionalism as he can. Whoever did the Briefing Agent: Bravo on your performance, man. You had to do great vocal work since there was no character to visually see, and you did that with flying colors. Same with the rest of the VA cast. So many colorful characters, just with voices alone, displayed wonderfully. Now if you'll excuse me, there is not NEARLY enough fandom stuff for these wonderful games. :)
The voicework for these games just keeps getting better. It's genuinely Broadway level stuff.
The reversed/distorted dialog parts say "to the (universal) agency board of directors" and "agent supervisor (mason(?))"
Thought that was cool
That is so cool that our supervisor also one fo game direktors
That moment only shows that he truly and finally shows that he cares about he's agent, in IEYTD 1 he was warning about the dangers of going on a mission but didn't mind if the agent died because some agents died in the field but in the last mission, he sounds worried if you complete the mission again after beating it the first time so you can say that he has grown attach to Phoenix and plus in mission 5 after getting rid of the laser roof thing he tries to let Pheonix know it is him not John Juniper
The keys are marked for the floor they're used on: the ambush happens "halfway there" to floor 32 (or floor 16), and the prison cells are located one floor lower (or floor 15).
That’s a badass way to react to imminent death. Just light a cigar and stare it in the face. No panic, just knowing you gotta do this.
And the last Zor saw of Agent Phoenix was a man staring them down, cigar lit, and giving the double bird.
Amazing.
After embarrassingly losing to the Agent again, I'm sure Zor and Zoraxis will being... sore.
Beautiful ending honestly
When I played through it the first time it made me so emotional
The way AS screams "Agent!" when you fall to your "death" (We all know Agent Phoenix is alive) really shows how much he actually cares and that he is not just there to give you instructions, but also to support you on your way
And I also feel like Juniper is alive, and who knows, maybe he'll even play a role in Agent Phoenix's survival
Maybe AS was also Phoenixs father figure? Because there's no mention of their family anywhere, so it's safe to assume that they were an orphan and AS primarily raised Phoenix during youth into the problem solving nigh unkillable superspy they are
What does AS stand for?
@@afilthymemer5366 Agent Supervisor
Considering Juniper's status on the van billboard after the ending, (it says "deceased?" if you don't know.) Not even the agency knows if he's dead. It's very likely he's still alive.
Ya know, I would love, in the third game, if the agent kept undercover from even his own organization for the majority of the game, getting missions by listening in on orders being given to other agents and heading to the scene to assist from the shadows. It'd be a neat twist on its head outside the regular formula we've gotten thus far.
In any case, I've enjoyed watching the myriad of VR games you've played over the years. Can't wait for more my dude, you got a new sub!
good idea
This channel is the definition of "Actions speak louder than words".
Your mannerisms, the subtle hand motions, and not-so-subtle ones, the occasional clips from other media to express how you're feeling at that moment. it's all comes together perfectly to not only make for entertaining videos, but to also make me believe you're actually playing Agent Phoenix, and being a better actor than Juniper ever was.
Also, was this the only mission with a cigar that wasn't booby-trapped?
"But Agent! If you run out of power, you-You will fall to your death!"
"It's to be expected"
And this is how you make a sequel!
I am so bored of game developers making horrible sequels to great original games just to milk more money. But this, my people, this is gold. The original IEYTD was nice. The concept of an escape room in a VR game in a Spy setting that didn't take itself very seriously. The intro was also marvelous, as the possibilities of VR weren't (and aren't) explored so it was one of (if not the) first games to use the inmersion to put out a beautiful intro in full James Bond style. Most of the missions had no continuity between them and you didn't know what to expect from them. The first one is literaly jumping with a car from a plane, and, if I remember correctly, there wasn't even a purpose as to why steal that car, and it didn't appear again. It was as if someone though that riding a car out of a plane was a great idea and they didn't care about how to conect it with the rest of ideas. Only after they listened to feedback in the last missions added, they made a little plot and put them together.
Now, IEYTD2 is the evolution of that. The plot is well-made and because of that it feels more impactful to play. You go through the plot linearly as you complete missions and the tension increases as you try to, basically, save the world. You know have an actual purpose in each mission and you have objectives, not only to just stay alive. It feels like, you know, a videogame, rather than a series of puzzles. I must admit that I gained more hope for the game industry after seeing this series. Also, great work making the videos!
As Juniper himself had stated in the opening?
"The Credits are more than just the end!"
Agent Phoenix really made the final cut. In the end, it was all down to the wire.
That beautiful mask Dr. Zor wears is all the agency desires.
_If all the worlds a stage? Let's set it (metephorically) on fire!_
*_This was a tale of Spies and Liars!_*
I could put more, but I think you get it-
Incredible stuff, STFU.
Is confirmed, the heavy is the spy…..
"Agent Phoenix"... Hm.
*lots of flammable booze*
*lots of cigarettes on fire*
... Huh, guess that's why.
Also, oh shit, they didn't find a body, Zor's interested in us, and the ending of CoD Ghosts popped up in my vision. Shit. Are we gonna... Y'know... Brainwashing?
Even if i had a money for a VR headset, i would still watch your videos.
me too
That’s what I do. Made sure to play this gem first though.
very reasonable, as one wouldnt play *all* games
Damn. Got me just a little emotional there taking what's supposedly your last cigar upon falling to your death. GOD THAT WAS A GOOD GAME
I'm betting that the third game will have "Agent Phoenix" portray the role of a double agent.
Theories aside, I salute the quality of entertainment you've constructed. Your casual disdain for the plots of Zoraxis and glee for the simple pleasures of booze and smoking has made me chuckle, time and time again, and you have wonderful comedic timing for these things.
In addition, the developers made a fantastic set of games thus far, capturing that silver screen feeling while retaining it's own unique flavor for the spy genre.
I can't bear to wait another couple of years for the sequel! Please make a separate video on unfinished businesses and secret interactions.
That's the plan. Not immediately, but it's on the to-do list
it's here now, trailer just came out
its funny how many people took a smoke as they fell, its like they included those right there because they KNEW thats what people would do
I expect to cry, Agent Phoenix is now smoking and drinking with God....... or no?
He died, stole His liquor cabinet, and then broke out of heaven. Only acceptable explanation
@@GregoryMom That has happened since his first death at this point god has bribed him with only one bottle and a free pass back to earth
It's amazing how this man has more personality than 90% of youtubers, despite never saying a word.
Let’s go baby, it’s the season finale!
Agent Phoenix: “If I make it to retirement I’ll probably still die from my habits so why not go out with a bang?”
I'm betting DLC is on the way. Can't wait to see the boss' reaction to the agent being alive
I Expect You To Die 2: The game where you can't burn yourself with a makeshift flamethrower but can stab yourself with a screwdriver
Man, that ending was cool. These are some of my fav vr games to watch. Hope I get to play them someday. Thank you.
16:33 Even if he did survive the shock, the fall would defiantly kill him, and the building collapsing on him will easily finish him off. So the part in the radio news i think was more in past tense where he was found out to be part of the scheme and not the hero. That was our role as the player to be the hero, even though the world won’t remember us.
I mean...
Death Engine.
I was referring to Juniper, not the player.
@@shcdemolisher point still stands. We've seen people survive worse.
I love how he just shrugs he's just like "guess ill die"
Fukken epic
I'm hyped as hell for "I expect you to die 3"
They even managed to top off the first ending which i thought impossible
1:17
This guy: *Grabs 2 sandwiches*
Me: What is he doing?
This guy: *Puts them together* Sandvich Sandvich!
Me: This man's a genius.
Hoooooooooly cow, dude. That was _phenomenal_. Just... the amount of character you bring to Agent "Phoenix" STFU is incredible. Not just in terms of how cool he is under pressure, but also the lengths the man will go to to accomplish his goals (see: stabbing himself to death with a screwdriver). I sometimes feel bad watching LPs of games I haven't played, but the way you play them just makes me more excited to play them someday. I can't wait to see what else is in store for our favorite agent, and anything else you play!
I love how casual you were as you continued to stab your own face with a screwdriver, and the audio clip made it sound as though you had just found your morning coffee. Absolutely hilarious!
If you grab the banana from the fruit bowl you can charge the battery on it, you can use the battery to explode the circuit for the saw or use the cattle prod/taser to brake it as well
Can you use it to recharge battery after using it to power nuclear briefcase and reconnect it to elevator?
How you acted is just so good, this is why i love your channel and your video. Unlike other no commentary play through you just act like YOU are the main protagonist. All i can is.. your acting skill is just at the point.
19:39 that final shrug was pure beauty. I liked and subscribed after watching this
In the spotlight... They could see you...
Played your cards right, killed your stage fright, they now fear you...
If all the world's a stage, you've put out the fire!
You're still the spy, and now there's no lier~!
Face to face with Xor at last.
You pulled the most BADASS fucking clutch. I expected you to die stupidly like you normally do, but then here you come, pulling out no stops and showing NO hesitation. Your fear had quickly vanished into strategic silence. You didn't make a funny joke beyond the clear "Oh sHIT" of the moment, and the IMMEDIATE reaction you had to seeing low power was incredible. You didn't take more than a FEW SECONDS to realize the cost and risk. And after only a moment of thought.
You pulled out your cigar, and did it.
You're hilarious, sure.
But you're also capable of some badass clutches.
You know HOW to sell a moment- I could honestly see that from another perspective the entire time. I felt like I was watching a high budget movie for a moment as the song built up it's intensity. As I recognized and sang along to the main theme's buildup, I could imagine you just looking smugly up to Zor. A shrug rolling your shoulders up and down.
You picked up your cigar, and put it in your mouth- Giving only a look with a raised eyebrow. A wordless exchange occured. All that needed was there.
"See ya next week."
That's what I could hear as you fell.
Bless you pal. You do so much more than I expect without words.
See ya next mission, agent.
i can just imagine him saying at the end:
"what do they call me? oh yeah, agent phoenix! i always come back!"
Spoiler: your handler is dr. zor
He’s trying to make sure that no spy can stop him
_Le gasp!_
I suspected it
"Well... Looks like I got no other choice. Fall to my death, or watch the world burn up...
Might as well fuckin' enjoy myself while I still can. Where's my damned cigar?"
A wonderful end to a wonderful game. I can't wait for the next game and I really wish I had and means of playing the first 2 I expect you to die games. Great video STFU I loved the part where you were lighting the cigar as you were being shot at, just the way you seem unphased in the elevator... Mwah chef's kiss.
I was literally watching part 5 wondering when it would come out
10:10 I'm getting flashbacks to the scene in Monty Python when the suicide Union came to save Brian.
Hmm, by reversing the weird parts of the end speech, it begins: "To the [universal] agency board of directors from agent supervisor" But then I really can't make out anything, it sounds like it is either nonsense or not English. Checking the cast for the game, from what I interpret, his voice actor's last name is Mason, and with that in mind it does sound a bit like it begins with "Mason..." something something, which could mean it was just nonsense but slightly easter egg-ish.
This series went from mildly comedic to severely emotional in just 2 games.
Taking one last smoke like a champ.
Man look badass when he tryna lit the ciger ngl
man, what an ending! and the last death was even(kind of) a "Smoking Kills" death
now i have even more moments in this game series that i've never played that will forever be etched in my memory
All the salt, and just a shake of pepper. Perfect
Agent Phoenix escaped every possible trap that could kill him, but at the end he choose to sacrifice for the world
I just finished this game last night and WOW this mission hits hard! Your handler really cares for you, and you can feel their sadness in their report.
I have a theory for the third game that I am split on whether or not I want to be true: what if your handler is really Dr. Zor, deep undercover this whole time, playing everyone around him like a piano, waiting for the moment to take out the agency once and for all?
The end message would show that maybe Zor is crazy but maybe Zor and the agent have like a Dr. Eggman and Sonic the Hedgehog relationship, where one kinda needs the other to be complete?
Thoughts anyone?
What a Game, what an Ending and Not to mention what a Performance by you. Cheers and hats Off.
when u need to restart the level always bring ur trusty suicide screwdriver
I can see agent Phenix walk from the facility with the cigar still in his mouth while smiling with confidence also I cant wait to hear his boss reaction on his return completely unharmed still with a smug face
1 year later and i still get goosebumps over the ending
Phoenix oh Phoenix i need you drunk ass to come back i start to go nuts i need my fix
this man went out like a boss, mad respect dude
19:00 "well Boss nobody say that trip have one way ticket"
That ending was really epic and i didnt expect that. Agent sacrifice himself for peace on the world
Also i really liked your playthrough because how you gesture with your hands. You put some voices from show,or even some YT videos
Your lets play was amazing and i cant wait for third part of this game where i wild guess Agent Phoenix will be brainwashed by enemy and he will work for bad guys (i feel like its normal thing in lets say spy movies)
This ending is phenomenal, way better than the originals non existent closing
This has been a pleasure watching this series
Cool video dude
🎵if all the world's a stage let's set it on fiirree, so you be the spy I'll be the liar🎵
That was an amazing journey. Hope to see a sequel of the game
That moment when you can finally smoke in peace... while getting shot at in an elevator.
Wow I did the same as you, in the final, it wasn't a choice to not sacrifice myself for stop the bombs, i didn't hesitate, i love this game
I still hear "foreheads of state" even though it's "four heads of state".
Must be how they say that bit.
I guess the most powerless people of the states are the forskins of state
I watched the entire first game and now this game. That end was awesome. But this ain't over yet agent. We still got a job to do.
I expect you to die 3 is a thing
Its been announced recently.
100% confirms that the agent survives this.
As always, you are supreme at VR gameplay. Love your acting.
Can’t wait for 3 and for you to play again
"I Expect You To Die Will Return" made me so happy when I finished the game
I'll be honest Agent, I really did expect you to Die.
20:27 music is perfect.
You good sir, have changed how I play VR games at large. I pretty much tried to do what you would do and got pretty far without dying.
The ending gives me goosebumps each time I watch it
Im impressed that you used the starter cables in the correct order
I love how almost all this series you die when smoking.
so if i got the ending correctly you'll be doing all the optional objectives of the missions ?
Yes, they might do so. But what I got is they are going to do I EXPECT YOU TO DIE 3 instead, because not everyone likes going back and doing all the missions for a few different things. STFU likes living in the moment, from what I gathered, and I don’t think he would enjoy going back and searching every books and cranny just to end on a note he and everyone already saw.
@@mrbigsta4221 i mean STFU also does optional stuff in other games.
@@thedeathbird I know, but the third game will probably come out soon soooo
Yes, it is my intention to go back and do all the achievements, get all the collectibles etc. I've been doing nothing IEYTD2 vids for 2 weeks now so I'm gonna do something else first, put some variety back into this variety channel, but I'll get back to this at some point.

awesome game, awesome ending
Haha, the constant smoking whenever you have the chance reminds me of my playthrough of The Red Stare. For some reason whenever I put on the headset I became a serial smoker :D

That was fun!
As ever, your silence is better than most of what RUclips can offer.
But for real man... With that kinda finale... We really expected you to die.
Wonder what will the plot of the third game be ?
And obviously... We'd hope you get a more luxurious office. No campervan could compare to that sweet corner office full of burnable stuff
