For map design specifically, I’ve kept thinking to myself: I feel like Nintendo should go back to how they made maps in Splatoon 1 where they just slapped on some random stuff and see if it works. It did. Good maps like Mahi-Mahi Resort, Ancho-V Games, and Urchin Underpass, which had a stage renovation.
In Splatoon 2, they wanted to force fights more, which is taking some of the alternative routes away, but didn’t do it too much.
In S3, they went overboard in forcing fights. Now there is a heavy lack of flanks and side routes, as previously stated. And the new original maps that are added every season have the similar layout every time.

    • @MUZUKUN-YT
      @MUZUKUN-YT Год назад +37

Nintendo lost it's touch with splatoon. Splatoon 2 was practically all-around and it was truly the golden for Splatoon. We got to use all of the features that were in the previous story mode in 1 and use our creativity to our advantage to ambush. But splatoon 3 by far is the worse game out of thr two, and the fact that they abandoned acnh just to work on 3 which splatoon 3 also got infected by the acnh virus it's not that surprising.

    • @djpaintbucket2662
      @djpaintbucket2662 Год назад +21

I've felt similarly this way for YEARS. Splatoon's maps had a lot of character to them from their layouts to their features. Camp Triggerfish's unique layout of each team's path leading directly to the "enemy's" path. Moray Tower's extreme, tall, and very different layout made me love it a lot (although I'm aware it's hated). Arowana Mall had a lot of tall side paths which were fun. Walleye Warehouse was quite open. Blackbelly Skatepark had a lot of slants and that iconic middle "tower". Bluefin Depot's middle having two different sections. Saltspray Rig having horizontal spawnpoints which instantly made the map very different than others. Hammerhead Bridge had a fun middle layout with many spots to fight in, grates, and the middle high grounds. Kelp Dome's above grate paths. Flounder Heights was very tall and many climbable walls (not just inkable). Many maps also had moving parts which soared the potential for Splatoon maps by a lot. Mahi-Mahi Resort's layout changes somewhat before one minute left. Piranha Pit, although absolutely terrible, had those moving conveyor belts. As basic as Port Mackerel is it had those moving Forklifts that you could climb. Museum D'Alfonsino with those rotating structures. Ancho-V Games had the first ever single player feature in a map, those propellor lifts. Saltspray Rig had those useless elevators and a funny little secret all the way in the back, which was a small moving platform being held up by a crane.
Most of these maps were very flawed with spawn camping issues, unfun choke points, very hard to regain the middle of some maps, getting stuck in your base or your side. Splatoon 2 could've expanded on these map features and layouts and fixed the main flaws but it didn't. The only flaw they fixed was that most maps you couldn't enter the enemy's base so you couldn't spawn camp them. Most walls were ink resistant and there were less walls that you could actually the climb to the top of. The first map in the game, The Reef, had almost no walls that you could actually climb to the top of. Only two new maps had moving features, Sturgeon Shipyard and Wahoo World (correct me if I'm wrong). Some other maps had good ideas like Shellendorf Institute with its ink resistant top paths, Snapper Canal's layout that we've never seen before, but they were executed poorly. These maps were less fun had the same problems coke points, hard to regain middle control, being stuck in your base or on your side, or were just annoying to play on. Splatoon 2 did have Shifty Station though and despite those having many flaws because of how fast they were made, they were a ton of fun. Very unique maps, many use of single player features, and had moving parts. I thought FOR SURE the next game would take inspiration from those maps.
Splatoon 3's lack of map designers really shows. We all know by now how awful and boring these maps are and I'm just very disappointed with this game entirely. I thought Barnacle & Dime could make somewhat of a comeback with basic design because it's fun in Turf War and has that third path "flank route" but Ranked just nukes half of that route for most modes making it very useless.

If the Octoling doesn't talk (which they most likely won't) I just wanna see their personality, like some traumatic memories would be good enough because it would show they've had a traumatic past. My gripes with Splatoon 3
    - Nintendo online is required for turf wars and salmon run. I wasn't able to play it for such a long time because I turned 18 and my card got canceled. Over a year later and I had to get my mom to pay for it to play again.
    - The weapons don't cost cash, making it significantly harder to try new weapons because it's easy waste the licenses which are hard to get. I'm just bad at turf wars which is why this is a problem for me.
    - There's no area around the place you spawn that keeps invulnerable to enemy attacks, which means you'll just die over and over again once they reach your spawn and camp there. This also can make people not want to play the game anymore as a result of it.

@@M64bros Quite frankly, yes. I don't work in game design but I do work in software design and I'm sure the translation between publisher(Nintendo)/client to developers works about the same. Aka, High level of requirements such as the game needs X and Y but can't have Z comes from Nintendo. A project manager / lead game designer/ lead game developer offers some input to help clarify requirements and expectations and approve ideas and makes sure the game stays on track for release/content updates. Developers get the requirements and come up with ideas to make the game function and achieve goals they were tasked with.
For example, Nintendo probably said hey there needs to be an online PvP game mode. Lead Designer and Lead Developer probably said cool we'll have these game modes from Splatoon 2 and will need some sort of matchmaking update. Developers probably worked on making the game modes and came up with the actual way the the game does matchmaking. After that, they probably showed it to the lead designer. Lead designer says cool this works and gives it the rubber stamp. The lead designer and developer then probably has some meeting with Nintendo exec staff and says hey we just finished up Multiplayer. Here's a local demo in the office. It'll match people of similar skill and will have these game modes. Boom Nintendo exec signs off. Of course this example skips a lot of the detail but this is the typical process in software development in general. Rinse and repeat until release until we get the game as the end user.
Of course the developers could have been given awful requirements but 9 times out of 10 when something in the software isn't working right or there are bugs that the end user catches then it's up to the developers to fix it or at least attempt to and usually they have even more freedom post launch depending on the severity of the issue to get things in a working state. This is why you see such a massive difference between updates for PvP vs Salmon Run. Players complain in Salmon Run and we get some kind of fix (egg lag, FPS drops, eggstrawork freelance lobbies). They may not be perfect but at least they tackle the issue in a meaningful way. Meanwhile in PvP, a whole year later were still talking about the same issues we were after the game launched with little updates on even just a status of changes minus them adding a few poles on a handful of maps. Like even if they just said no we don't want to update the maps to make them more open or updates to improve the matchmaking system would take a considerable amount of time to straighten everything, that would be way better than the radio silence we've had for a year

Big reason I stopped playing: the catalogues. It started simply enough: just play once a day every day and win one turf war (or Salmon Run shift if you like that better, though it can be harder to win). Play a little more during Splatfest. Profit.
That all changed when I wanted to devote time and energy to other games or activities aside from Splatoon. Suddenly I had a sense of FOMO creep in, and I was (and still am) really upset about it. At this point I've determined that, as much as I really want the new gear, I'm just not going to get it. I sort of just said, "screw the FOMO" and did my thing. But I can't tell you how upset it makes me that this series used to have some awesome free gear drops and now it just... doesn't. I've already put in the hours. Don't make me put in more unless I want to. And trust me-- if you give me the freedom to do so, I'll want to. It's like asking for more money at this point, and I hate it.

Nice vid. Something to add as a casual player:
    - The grinding for everything that you haven't mentioned (there's lots). Sometimes the grind feels like working at a factory in Vietnam for below minimum wage. Missed a few days playing? Back to the catalog conveyor belt you go. The 4387564876473 exp ticket you got from the gunch machine don't do anything for the catalog btw. The catalog gets a special mention because it just ends up burning you out. You want to play for fun but the game turns into a chore from the get-go.
    - Lots of new players fall off before reaching level 10 because the matchmaking in Turf is so bad that it sometimes feels like the game is trying to punish you via macabre flagellation. There's no weapon or level matchmaking to speak of, I know that Glicko exists but honesty most people aren't going to bother with thins knowledge because the matchmaking still sucks. Couple having to play extremely aggro against people who play the game all day every day with maps that are only build like meat grinders and you get pesticide for all but the most invested. Open Anarchy is a "bully a child" simulator for sore losers who got their ass handed to them by a streamer in S+.
    - The casual-to-competitive imbalance has caused the community to spiral massively. A community for an online game is incredibly important, and the Splatoon playerbase used to be very welcoming and fun, now you see newcomers get bullied on the Reddit sub for complaining about getting matched against advanced players in their first 10 games. I used to follow a lot of Splat community content, now the expectations for everybody are high and casuals feel like they have no voice in the matter.
    - As a Turf lover the game feels like it lost the series' unique identity. S2 was already on crutches when it came to creative maps, S3 is either tetris meatgrinders or ports of S2 stages with half the shadows, light and vfx missing. Ink is just a way to get around faster or get up a small ledge, rolling is nice but there's only so much you can do here.
    - Challenges. Wow 50 people can play this, how nice.
There are a lot of things in this game that feel expressly designed to deter as many players as possible. Honestly, S3 feels like a social experiment whose main goal is to analyze and test out as much out-there stuff as possible because they can get away with it due to how immensely popular the IP is. S3 and its successors are going to live long since the series is just too solid, but it is exactly the reason why the developers have stagnated.

all of these are good points. For me, personally, it's the catalogue. I have been maxing out two catalogues since Splatoon 3's release. My own and my brother's, since he gets too busy with work to really level it out. With how slow that bar fills up, even when you win, just feels like you aren't really making progress at all, like spending half a day for four levels in the catalogue in ridiculous, and maxing out TWO in three months just fuels burnout. I get that battle passes are the "thing" right now, but ffs just let people access the content whenever they want and not hide it behind guaranteed limited availability (as in you will 100% get it, but only during the season before you have to rely on random chance). It's unfair, time consuming, and kinda boring tbh... Not to mention that you'll get "teammates" every once in a while who do nothing to contribute to the match :/

Great video. Leading up to Splatoon 3, my entire friend group and some other creators I play with were SO excited for the game's release. The test fire preview event was super fun, and everything about the game looked great. But it's reason #2, the netcode, that everyone I know stopped playing pretty quickly. CONSTANT disconnects at launch. They did a lot to fix that issue, so there was hope. But the more everyone played, the more we realized bad netcode, sketchy p2p connections, and a tick rate slower than Splatoon 1 (yep, S1 had a higher tick rate!) were issues we saw in nearly every single match. I had real ambition to put a team together and be a part of this game's community for the 2 years the game would be supported, but me and everyone I know stopped investing time into the game once we realized the network issues were everywhere and not going to be fixed. S3 was one of the most disappointed gaming experiences, and I just hope we get a truly good game in this series from Nintendo at some point.

When I think about this I think about Splatoon’s successful launch on the Wii U, better map design, collaborations, better servers (for its time); Was something that made the game refreshing and never stale when new weapons/maps/splatfests came out, but ever since Nintendo started making Splatoon to be competitive heavy, the game became one sided for Competitive players, forgetting about the other audience, giving For Fun players nothing to do. I think Challenge mode is really fun but only lasting for a few hours just sucks, cause most people are busy with other things to participate.

Another big thing thats dropping off old players right now is factors outside of the game itself. MANY of the players of Splatoon are artists and creators, drawn to the game because of its funky and off-the-beaten-path style! unfortunately, since the economy is suffering, many players cant find time to play around how overworked they are. I pop in for about an hour during events and thats pretty much it these days, just because FOMO is exhausting- and so is work. If my silly funny video game feels more like work than my *actual work*, i dont want to play it. the sheer amount of time and effort that has to be put in to "get your dailies" is stupid. if i cant get set up, get all my daily stuff, and move on to having fun in 3 minutes or less? i have no desire to devote the one hour of video game time i have in an average day to playing splatoon and nothing but.

As an adult, $20 a year for online gaming entertainment is very convenient. Nothing beats free, but if I did have to pay, this is on the cheaper end for a yearly service that I have ever seen. Xbox and Playstation charge $60 minimum. And I bet most adults spend $15 to $20+ daily on food alone, whether to feed themselves or their family
Im not complaining about the price at all. Could the online service be better? Of course it can. Maybe its just the switch hardware and software starting to be outdated compared to industry standard, aswell as the lack of dedicated servers, which I heard costs a fortune to set up and keep running. Shouldnt be a problem for Nintendo I suppose.

First im going to talk about the bad things about this game (some of it is only my opinion by my experiences with the game)
One thing that got worse from Splatoon 2 is that you can't stay in the home menu while waiting for matches or in spectator mode because in Splatoon 3 it disconnects you after around 10 seconds which with people not being able to join private battles while in a match (which got changed with the last update), the poor netcode and people disconnecting before the start causing a lobby crash made them literally unplayable.
Also the things you said like the terrible maps (tetris blocks), the netcode/online connection that doesn't function well and the not existing matchmaking (which i often jokingly call rng system) made the game just feel bad and way worse than Splatoon 2. And for the events, Splatfest just try to ruin fun sometimes because of the not existing matchmaking and being forced to play turf war instead of good modes and having only a single map rotation with the option to play turf with Splatoon 2 X rank point system. Eggstra work for me just gets boring way too quick and should in my opinion just be a second rotation instead of an event and it has the terrible reward system of Big Run which only gives the top 5% the reward that it feels worth grinding for (and I say that while getting in all Big Runs and 1 Eggstrawork gold the other Eggstrawork silver). Big Run is like the only good event and now with double scales it's just even better, but the reward system makes it just worse than it should be. Challenges are a fun idea but are for some reason just very limited time which is stupid nonsense and it makes challenges just way worse than they could be.
Now to the good things about the game
The story Mode is great and was fun to play, the special weapon design got way better than in Splatoon 2 and Salmon Run got fun maps, is now always playable and the king Salmonids got added. The balancing also starts to get better (with a few small exceptions)
Thanks to anyone who took the time to read this

    • @Vic_Trip
      @Vic_Trip Год назад +2

I second this a lot. I have many other gripes with this game tho.
Here is the TL;DR - This game just turned out to be hyper-competitive and overall FOMO without giving lasting reasons for coming back and giving new/casual/players that prefer to play the game their own way a reason to continue.
I am not looking forward to updates because the 3 month gap makes me lose interest knowing we only have 2 years worth of content updates. Which gets me less excited or hopeful that things will change. Feels like the game is being neglected and not only is it lacking new content, it is constantly making mistakes on what made the game fun in the 1st place.
Give players that don't like competitiveness a CHOICE. I don't want the only fun of the game to be competitive. Not everyone will get to be top players (in fact MANY will be left out because you HAVE TO HAVE people at the bottom for others to stay on top). Not to mention I always preferred to play casually and just don't care to play ranked for the position, but to enjoy the fun modes. And that is being ruined too because the maps are not open enough for people to not have to confront others all the time (in other words, less strategizing and more skill based). This pressure to be good in order to progress is irritating and makes me want to play less. I can grow as a player if I have the opportunity to learn from mistakes and experiment. I can't have that when everything is overly competitive and the game keeps disconnecting/having issues.
The FOMO is absolutely unnecessary all the time for a game to be attractive. You can have it as a side-gig to make people compelled to play every day, but it should NOT be the main reason for you to play the game. That is just telling me you don't care enough to put actual content that is engaging and that can last more than 2 years of content updates. If the main motivation for splatoon now is competitive with limited time content being pushed and not leaving people who don't have the time, patience and/or willingness to just check out boxes, then it is doomed for the long run. Mostly because this game is supposed to be a game that endures and can be played again later on.
I got it early mostly because of splatfests, but I am sorely disappointed. I will not say it isn't better in other ways like taking off limited-time salmon run and balancing out the weapons overall, but what value does this game have for resale now that 9 months have passed? People should already have the game and new players would lose interest at first sight when they know how much lost "content" (aka fun events and collectibles) they lost that could be earned, but instead are now locked under RNG.
If you reached this far, I also thank you for hearing me out 😊

This video is well made and the ideas are well presented, so i liked the video.
I play quite a bit of the competitive side and its amazing to see these issues adressed.
Personally my issues are the maps (apparently in an interview the devs said they know people are complaining but won't change them because the maps are designed to "induce more fights"), the matchmaking (I always struggle to find matches in X rank, even S when I have to get back up) and the content flow.
I simply dont feel the content to be enough, 10 months into the game's projected 2 year life span and a sizeable chunk of the weapons don't have second loadouts is ridiculous.

I had the game gifted to me on release and played it quite a lot. I nearly filled out the first catalog.
This was filled with the dread of constant disconnects, dying to shots through the wall and overall a lot of it just *wasn't a good time* because I was a new player in a sea of Splatoon veterans. Without skill-based matchmaking in turf wars, I was just getting my butt handed to me on a silver platter constantly, and with the barrier of entry to ranked being so high, it felt atrocious to even get to that point.
Eventually, I did get to that point! Only to find out that the matchmaking there was as bad as everywhere else. People from all sorts of ranks were allowed to go together, turning it into a hellish experience even there. On top of that, I have a slight disability, and to find out there's absolutely no accomodation for that within the game (because I can't use motion controls without it hurting like hell after a few minutes) was... well, sad really. The stick controls are so much worse than *just* motion controls, and it wouldn't even be that big of a problem but for SOME ASININE REASON, you're not allowed to use the right stick to go up and down without turning off motion, which could've alleviated a bit for me as I can handle slight bits. Just not, yknow, constant. Not that it matters, because the desyncing of the gyro sensor happens nearly constantly with the game as well, making it less of a fight against the opponent and more of a fight against my controller. In a lot of games, I can usually find little holes I can poke through to find a role within a team, but Splatoon 3's map design is just so linear. Often times I'd want to sneak through somewhere and I couldn't. This is why I loved the Ninja Squid ability. It would let me play a little outside of the boxed design, but even that doesn't work because the netcode will sometimes accidentally reveal your character by placing them outside of ink. Nothing works here.
So to me who didn't even bother *trying* to get into S-Rank, the fact that they made X Battles more accessible feels incredibly stupid. It's a really hollow attempt at making a larger chunk of the playerbase feel better about their performance while not addressing actual problems.
After exploding from absolute nothingness several times in a row due to someone else's lag during a splatfest, I eventually took the game out of my switch and just... never played it again. It's sad too, because I honestly enjoyed it. sometimes. when it wasn't a fight against the switch itself, or the shitty p2p netcode at 16hz. The game is riddled with retention boosters like the catalog, timed events and just how arduous it is to grind everything, I would want... It wasn't worth it. It wasn't worth dozens upon dozens of hours of frustration just to look a bit nicer in a game I didn't even want to play for 90% of that time.

I know it's a shooter, but you can tell they also hold friendship in high regrards. I wish when taking pictures, you could actually pose with friends instead of using the throwing motion and jumping. It's also a super minisucule detail, but I wanna be able to see the other team preform booyeah and ouch.

I was a casual splatoon player in 2. I got to A+ rank, got only 1 *, and loved salmon run. Like I LOVED SR.
The fall off from 2 to 3 is crazy. Content wise 3 is superior but to me, gameplay wise I prefer 2. I enjoy the maps better. That's really the meat and potatoes of it for me. I havent played splatoon 3 since OCTOBER bc I just didn't love the game like I loved splatoon 2. I had 900hrs in splatoon 2 and I'm pretty sure I have only 250 in 3 most of which being story mode trying to finish after alterna and then having some fun in SR.
I think another issue that's ongoing for me is that as an adult I gotta work lol I miss out on so much of the "content" (challenges, big run, eggstra work and splat fests) because they're all on the weekends. I work 10hr shifts on the weekends, I can't just miss work to play splatfests or big run. I have a family to provide for. It just sucks. Splatoon in general alienates their adult players with that format imo. It should just be a week long event with ranked modes included. Nintendo needs to get it together

I main a weapon (blaster) that cannot fight head to head with more standard weapons and prepared teams. But thats all i was forced to do. Despite all effort, I wasnt improving, and I needed to hit a skill floor even more drastically high then i ever was to compete. And it crushed my heart to put the game down for such superficial reasons.

Turf War is frustrating to play where your projectiles get randomly deleted even though it looks like you got clean hits.
Salmon Run rewards are mediocore. Rates too rare that requires months of nonstop grinding with friends (oh wait) just to get enough golds with no exchanges.
Catalog rewards for Salmon Run are also a slog compared to other modes, and if you keep wiping at wave 1, it then becomes a frustrating experience.
It also punishes you, regardless if someone did a baby rage quit or DC'd.
Ranked is too restrictive, and slaps you with demotion resets when a season ends.
    Challenges? [LUL]
Catalog has FOMO gear, but everything else goes to shell out when that ends with seemingly no way to attain said FOMO gear.
Shell Out costs 30,000 per pull aside from your daily pull or conch shells (which goes away after a splatfest ends regardless of if you used them or not.) and completionists and collectionists would grovel over how poop the RNG is.
Not everyone can complete After Alterna (due to rails being a skill check.) and thus a piece of gear, badge, and title is locked out. Honestly there should be an "Alterna"tive to this unlockable content or have this extra level have checkpoints so it doesn't become a 3 hour grind of pure BS regarding a balloon living by 1 HP because of spitball RNG on top of being unable to backtrack. It's either ride the rail or die.
Badge system feels useless to me, and limited distributed badges just generated a toxic hellhole to boot.
Events have this big RNG where the toxic soreness gets cranked up to 11 on top of having gold quota kept hidden until the last second, making it feel like you got ripped off after investing so much time into it. Threshold golds are a much more realistic solution.
For a game that wants to appeal to casuals... it does EVERYTHING in its power to punish them at every turn.

I'm not the type of player who usually gets into online multiplayer games, but Splatoon 1 was one of my most heavily played games ever, literally just me playing Turf War for over 1,000 hours. I played Splatoon 2 for hundreds of hours as well. Splatoon 3, I haven't played in months, not even the last couple Splatfests, which I used to religiously show up for. It really makes me sad, because I still think the game is cool and fun, but I don't feel the same draw as the first game. I really miss the original line up of specials, and I think your points about the map design pushing you into more aggressive play probably applies too. When I bought the game and told it to carry over my experience from 2 into the matchmaking, I immediately regretted it, because I feel constantly outclassed every single time I play, and I get frustrated super quickly. At this point, I'm just waiting for the new single player content.

3:14 this kind of system is called listen server, where there TECHNICALLY is a server but the server is running the client software as well (leading essentially to what you are calling "host" here).
This is not peer to peer. An example of definition perfect p2p is Smash Ultimate's quickplay, where there is no server software running on either player (OR that ALL players are running the server software, depends on the implementation but without the source code it is hard to confirm).

First off, just wanted to say great video!
In terms of problems with Splatoon, my biggest issue with the game ties back into what you were talking about for matchingmaking but from a more casual perspective. The fact that Turf war is the only true casual PvP game mode (especially after they basically turned Anarchy Open into League) is honestly a huge problem imo. Ideally, from my perspective when they added Challenges they should have kept their idea for timed PvP competitions. However, they should have added a full always on rotation game mode with these fun mode ideas and it used the fresh meter like in turf war.
Personally, because of the competitive nature and awkward timing of Challenges, I haven't played over half the game modes because honestly it's just frustrating playing against people that play PvP nonstop. Before someone says it, yes it is a skill issue on a personal level. However, I think Nintendo skill capping the few pieces of fresh content for pvp in the game combined with their awful matchmaking just makes PvP hard to play in the game from a casual and new player perspective compared to other "competitive" shooter games like Fortnite, Overwatch, or even Valorant. As a casual or new player in those games it feels like you're getting matched appropriately and actually have a chance to learn how to play the game before getting matched up against people that play tournaments or have been grinding PvP since day 1.
My second biggest problem with Splatoon 3 is Splatfest and the communities interaction with the event. For Splatfest, it seems like any semblance of matchmaking just gets thrown out the window and most games end up in a definite win or loss in the first 20 seconds. However, this is the time where most casual players will come out of retirement to play the game and imo when matchmaking should be operating at its best rather than at its worst. Not to mention that on Twitter before, during, and after each Splatfest, there's always some crazy scandal or bad publicity going on between players/teams and just overall negativity. The reason I bring this up because I've noticed large general Nintendo streamers (1000+ avg twitch viewers and 1M+ YT subscribers) talking about how they had planned on streaming and making content for Splatoon occasionally (some example of plans I heard a weekly Splatoon streams, splatfest streams, and new update streams and videos) but have had such a bad impression with it casually due to Splatfest and seeing Splatoon Twitter have monthly meltdowns that they completely reversed their plans on covering the game. As someone who got into Splatoon from watching creators like these try the game out during launch, it's a whole lot of free publicly that the game is missing out on.
After mentioning so much negativity around the game, I do want to say that I appreciate Salmon Run. Idk if there's different teams working on Salmon Run and PvP but if they are, the PvP team need to ask the Salmon Run team for feedback. It's like night and day between the two halves of the online experience. For starters, I have rarely seen disconnects in Salmon Run and when they do happen, the game adjusts to fit having less players.
Second, When there are issues that players are complaining about (egg lag, frame drops at high evp, no freelance in eggstrawork) the developers actually listened and tried to make changes to fix what they could given the online P2P limitations and switch hardware to lessen the impact compared to the mostly silent treatment about core issues in PvP that people have mentioned since the game launched last year.
Lastly, in terms of skill required to play, the learning curve is so much friendlier for people that want to play at any level. Want to be a pure casual or just starting out? Cool there's meaningful ranks you can be in for that experience
Want to sweat or try overfishing? Cool you can grind up to high hazard levels or even go for 9s if you're good enough. All the time getting matched randomly with people at similar levels to you. No matter your skill level progression feels meaningful
Ironically, the most frustrating part of Salmon Run for me is tied back to PvP. The fact that the lobbies reset with the PvP rotations. I've lost so many amazing freelance lobbies due to PvP rotations dumping us all back out into the Grizzco hub. However, we can't always get what we want I guess lol
It just seems that a lot more care goes into Salmon Run than PvP which is a bit sad since most people naturally gravitate towards PvP first and give up on the game before seeing how great other aspects of the game are like the Story mode and Salmon Run

Splatoon is just bad now. Maybe if the devs actually made challenges more often, eggstrawork 1 week long and happen at least once a month, add actually decent maps, finally give us a new ranked mode and if squid disters did the news in DlC, if Nintendo brought back Squid jump for ppl who PAID for it and if they finally added a real NEW mode for regular online.
Salmon Run is carrying splatoon right now and even so its not something everyone enjoys. Tableturf is totally irrelevant and could easily be made into something better, and should also be on mobile
This next update might be the devs last opportunity to save the game before it actually becomes like most other shooters and truly dues.

it's incredible how the 20 dollars a year that i thought were for going towards maintaining servers turned out to be totally false. we're paying for a service that is not just low-quality, but also lacks actual servers?? what are we paying for then?
and i'm glad someone else pointed out the lack of content. i miss squid beatz dearly (i liked the jukebox addition, but it doesn't really feel like enough) and the catalog just feels like a frustrating chore to slog through. i really wish more care was put into this game, i've been playing since the very first splatfest in splatoon 1 and the previous games were so creative and innovating!! they did a great job with both the previous games and actually listened to the community :]
i still have fun playing splatoon 3, but it feels like i just keep getting disappointed when it comes to this game :(

what sucks about community feedback is that a large part of the community speaks an entirely different language than the developers in japan

ive found it increasingly difficult to find an x rank game, it always says not enough players and after like 7 mins of queue times it works but i get put against a team of a much higher skill level than my own, im not the best player but it doesnt help when i get teammates who take the rainmaker to our checkpoint when im shouting 'this way' at them at the opponents checkpoint. my biggest problem is with the matchmaking system and the map design, the maps need to stop being so catered towards campy weapons like the splatlings and snipers and add more variety, its made the game much more aggressive to a lot of players, they also need to stop bringing out weapons that are completely imbalanced compared to other weapons and actually focus on fixing the balancing issues between weapons from, their damage amounts to the specials. this is combined with the really bad map design and matchmaking that makes it harder when it gives you 2 or 3 snipers on your team. the game has too many issues and the next content update should add new stuff but primarily balance the game more, change map designs, and overhaul the matchmaking process. id be completely fine if it took them a while to do it and actually get stuff done instead of rushing an update through because NEW CONTENT. it feels almost as if the game is already slowing to a complete stop and i further think after the dlc the updates could possibly get smaller and more spread out. they need to take some careful time with it and maybe actually play the game theyve made haha
