    My shrimp world journey all started when I just wanted to grow some Java moss for my hermit crabs to eat and I needed algae eaters for control in the aquarium.
    Thank you for actually explaining things that we Shrimpers need to know for our Scaly Kids versus just giving a tour of your tanks (like so many others aquarists tend to do)!
    VERY helpful as I have been avoiding Caridina (for no real reason) in favor of Amanos and Neocaridinas. Now, I see that I have been lucky in missing out on some frustration.

    So far I am keeping blue dream neocaradina shrimp, and they are doing fantastic. I started them in a 40 liter about 3 months ago with 10 shrimp, today there are well over 100 in this tank and probly more than that ad new hatched are so hard to see with all the Java moss, I recently moves 6 shrimp from this colony to a 55 gallon aquarium, and noticed a berried female already. I will try caradina eventually but at the moment there are many other color varieties I want to raise. Thank you for these wonderful videos!

      That's what makes the shrimp hobby so fascinating. There are so many colours and options to choose from. I moved 120 mixed Neocaridina into my 55 gallon and after a year there were far over a thousand shrimp in there. It was so much fun to watch that tank! I agree, it's best not to rush into Caridina. I still enjoy my Neocaridinas more than the Caridinas because of how easy they are to keep happy and how abundantly they breed. Thank you once again for your positive feedback. I really appreciate it!

      Hey! I want to start out in the same format tank. Do you have any tips in regards to grave/soil?

    • @ellies_exotics
      @ellies_exotics  2 года назад

      @@awdwadawda352 I used Akadama (Bonsai Clay) in all my tanks. It kept the pH low and stable for Caridina. If you are just focusing on Neocaridina then you can use virtually any substrate. But if you want to keep plants, I would suggest looking into Langa or a similar substrate that's advertised as a plant substrate. Just make sure to cycle your tank for 6-8 weeks before adding shrimp, as Langa and similar substrates release ammonia for around 6 weeks once added to the tank. This will definitely kill your shrimp. 🙂

    But.. amano shrimp are in the caridina genus too but they are just more efficient algae eaters and are transparent, they are called Caridina multidentata.

    Good video! I tried Amanos but they disappeared, I think my Angel (see you have one there too) took care of them. I miss my marine shrimps though from when I still had a sea water tank. Had some Cleaner Shrimps and Fire Reds, they were hardy.

    I keep my shrimps on aged rain water in a 15 gallon tank with lots of plants, like a natural river bank with plenty of algae on rocks. They are calm and pretty. I give then their shrimp foods, but I occasionally spoil them with delicacy, boiled egg yolk (small bits) and some fruits, peas and beans, all fed on a dish via a glass tube, so that foods dont go to waste and mess the gravel. Every 4 days I suck out of tge dish what's not eaten and replace with fresh foods. They share the tank with Green Cardinal Tetra and a adopted 10 mm female guppy with a black spot on each side of her belly. She's so happy to be with the Cardinals and Shrimps. After 3 months in the tank she's now 15 mm long. She isn't afraid of me whereas at the Auarium store, she was hiding under ornaments in fear. I decided to adopt her. Even fish have feelings.
