    Some important facts about Gandhi:-
    1) In 1921, Gandhi decided to attire himself in only a "dhoti" & a shawl.
    2) Gandhi was nominated 5 times of Nobel peace prize. Later Nobel committee publicly regretted its omissions & decided to gave him prize in 1948 but he was assassinated that year.
    3) Rabindranth Tagore gave the title "Mahatma" to Gandhi. So he is called as "Mahatma Gandhi".
    4) 2nd October is celebrated as "international day of Non-Violence" .
    5) Albert Einstein on Gandhi," Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh & blood walked upon this earth".

10:27, this idiotic model was why Gandhi is considered naive. It works on whites, but never on Muslims who slaughtered the Hindus coz they wanted a separate nation. According to Gandhi, if a Muslim comes at me with a sword for the sole purpose of slaughtering my entire family, I should simply let him, this idiotic logic of Gandhi if applied would have single handedly sealed Hindu genocide. Also I would echo some of the other comments, there were many other freedom fighters in the Indian history that are not known to many.
The things that stood out was his stance on nonviolence, which you did see in the clips. This idea of nonviolence was the one that made him formidable in the eyes of British Empire.
Also a fun fact about the movie, Sir Ben Kingsley is of a Gujarati descent. And Mahatma Gandhi was a Gujarati.

Yes GANDHI is overly cooked up on the world scale coz it suits the narrative of the then Soviet Union..
Not today after many years we are celebrating Shastri's B-Day on the scale he deserved as our leader....
Also Gandhi(posterboy) never really won us freedom it was Shubash Chandra Bose with his Indian National Army and inner conflicts the Brits had to leave India after WW2,if not Brits would hv stayed a long time and changed our culture too..
Only thing I would appreciate about Gandhi was his salt satyagraha, tats the only thing I uphold..

When Gandhiji went to the UK to meet the king, it was cold winter evening and he wore the cotton loin cloth (dhoti). Later the English press asked him about his attire as to why he wore so scantily, Gandhi replied, “the King wore enough for both of us”. This is an example of the dry humor that the great man had.

For your information most People don't respect Gandhi anyone , as they blame him for creation of pakistan , but these WhatsApp graduates doesn't know that he did not have the option , British gave one year to solve all the internal issues or they won't leave so he ceded to give pakistan as he valued independence more than anything and he didn't know pakistan will turn on india after partition .
So sad to his own people are now against him . People forget he wasn't god and he wasn't perfect but he was a major reason the British left india .

Although you may just keep in the back of your mind that he was not solely responsible for getting India independent, there were many other armed uprisings too. Plus there were some geopolitical reasons too like the World War and America's demand of a free world after supporting the British alliance in world war 2 etc.
    Peace out

when a injustice is documented, clearly labeled bad, and made a movie on, its easy to sympathize with it. But irony is, we see plenty of injustice around us in everyday life, and as it not documented anywhere, and as there is no public acknowledgement of it, we ignore it and many times party to it.

Gandhi never said NOT to fight.. He preached non-violence.. Big difference..
He preached not to react to someone's offences violently, but fight it by not accepting it, acknowledging it or adjusting about to accommodate it.. Stand firm by your conscience.. by what you believe is right and just.. Infact Gandhi himself acknowledges his methods require the greatest of mental fortitude, strength and will showcased by great true warriors..

He is still highly regarded in India as the man who got us our freedom. He is popularly referred to as "Mahatma" meaning "The Great Soul" and affectionately called also as Bapuji - literally means father and is regarded as the Father of the Nation. These should indicate his stature and the eminence and reverence he is still held in today. Almost every city and big town in India has a road or street named after Gandhiji. His statues, busts and monuments to him and photos of him are commonplace across the country. But yes as time passes, the newer generations of Indians are not that aware of the freedom struggle and his importance, though they are widely taught in school. Much the same way how many young black americans today are aware of Dr. MLK and his contribution.

Racism stems from not knowing. Racial discrimination stems from an inherent (but unrecognized) superiority complex combined with a deep hatred for everyone outside your race. Common racism is usually harmless, but in positions of power this leads to racial discrimination which is very harmful for society at large.
