On models like the 440, 630 and 640, you hold in the stitch reversing button, that button has a "U" shaped symbol with a arrow on it. With the machine off, hold in that button and let the machine completely turn on. You will then be in the service screen mode and will see similar symbols. Touch on the clock symbol to check your machines hours.

From what you have said you did not do anything wrong. Tapping on ok or esc won’t cause any settings to change . That only comes into play when you change a setting like turning off a bobbin sensor. In that case you have made a setting change and to keep that change you tap on ok. If the machine turned on but was locked up my first thoughts would be something wrong with the machines internal memory. If the memory becomes full or corrupt the machine will lock up. The mother board of the machine is called the main print. On the main print board there is another small circuit board plugged in and that is the one that contains the machines memory. That board is called the mini print. I do have a few of the mini print boards but I don’t have any main print boards but can possibly get one if needed. If you are quoted a outrageous price for a main print board replacement then possibly I can help. I have heard of dealers wanting a outrageous $650 to replace that board. Let me know what they find out. I can be emailed at joekind@comcast.net .

Thank you very much for that information and offer of help if it is determined it is a board. I will use your email and let you know the results of the tech visit. PS I am sure the bobbin sensor is faulty. I followed your video on how to check that before I had this shut down and when pulling the bobbin thread through the door the bars did not light up on the test screen. What would you charge for the sensor? Thanks

Hi, You keep the clr button held in the machine completely boots up and you see the service screen. I service and sell these machines on eBay and I get asked about how to check hours on the 200 and 730 models all the time. Found it was much easier to post this video rather than trying to explain all this in a email.
My eBay user name is bushvideo,

    HI Joe,
I wanted to get your opinion on the Bernina 435 Anniversary edition. I currently own a 180 that has been upgraded to the 185. I want a machine that has the BSR capabilities and the larger mega hoop. I have read that the 435 has both. Will my embroidery module work on the 435? How do I find out what version the 435 accepts? My current module is Version 4. Should I consider the 435 or just save up for the 580? Does the 435 have a USB port? I appreciate your input since you really know your Bernina's. Thank-you.

Michelle Mishaan The 185 embroidery module is totally unique to just that updated 180. Because it has a 180 style plug on it, and because of its internal electronics it can not be used on any other machine. So no you can not use it on a 435 or any other Bernina. I most likely am going to run out of room in this message box, so here is my email address. JoeKind@comcast.net On the mega hoop. Most people misunderstand this item and how it is to be used. It is actually for combining 3 designs into one without the need for re-hooping. Bernina has special designs just for this hoop. Most think you can do one big design. You can if it is made or the mega hoop. You would need to be good with embroidery design software to make your own design or combine 3 designs to make one in this hoop. The only way to use the largest hoop Bernina makes is to get a long arm machine like the 830 so there is room for a larger hoop. Rather than a B580 that is actually the same as a 640 but with a higher price, possibly you should consider a 830. Price wise it would be right around the price of the 580 plus you get a BSR foot along with a 830. Email me and I will give you more details on the 435. Bill

Is there a way to check hours on a B580? I’ve found the stitch count, but don’t know where to go to see the hours. Thank you.

Dawn Septeowski The 580 is the same as a 640 . Though the on screen symbols look a bit different than the 640 you check the hours the exact same way. You need to get into the service screen mode to see the hours. Check out my video on checking the hours on the 630 and 640 and follow those steps to see your hours. Thanks for watching 😁

Help ! I was trying to get into service screen and now it won't turn on at all...I may have hit that yes instead of esc...can you hlep me recover this artista 200 without upgrade?

    • @JoeKind1958

MP D To do a upgrade you need to have the firmware loaded on a Bernina memory card and hold in more than just one button and I don’t show how to do a firmware upgrade so I am not sure why you are mentioning the part about the upgrade? If you are on the service screen and you want to get out you simply turn off the machine and turn it back on again. With it not turning on at all that must be some other problem as trying to get into the service screen won’t cause an electronic problem that would prevent the machine from turning on once it has been turned off. I am a bit puzzled by the order of events that you tried. But again even if you messed up, the machine should turn back on. Without knowing more I suspect some sort of unrelated electronic problem. Check the basics like the condition of your power cord and if the outlet you are using has power. On some Berninas if they have not been used or plugged in , in a long time. Keep it plugged in for at least a half hour then try turning it on.

I just assumed if I said yes on the "check firmware" screen you mention in the video do not hit yes, but it would not accept escape..it was locked up. I had reviewed page 1 and 2 of the firmware screens then wanted to escape and it would not and I may have hit the yes key on accident when trying to get escape key to work. Anyway, I did just turn it off and then thinking I could try again to get to the other screen for the turn off of the bobbin sensor and I could not turn it back on. I immediately thought I might have accidently hit something that changed the firmware entries as you warned.... you DON'T want to hit yes...well as you see I was then thinking I may have done it and wiped out the firmware that runs the machine. I guess thats why I was mentioning the firmware. What I meant was that this is a 200 without the upgrade. I called a bernina dealer and take it in on Tuesday. Maybe something else failed at the same time I was messing in the service mode and it really has nothing to do with my being in that service area. I hope this machine is salvagable without a terrible cost, as the stitching that I did get to do before it went down was amazing and I like how the machine was performing..so I will find out Tuesday. Some are saying it might be the motherboard. I know the machine sat a long time not being used but in a climate controlled bedroom of the deceased owners Son, so as you said..I did try leaving it on for about an hour and nothing. I will say that about the third time after the first incident occured, it did power up to the initial screen but it just stayed on that screen and never fully booted up. I am hoping its something minor. Thank you for at least replying with some thoughts and ideas, I report those things were checked too and nothing. Great, helpful videos by the way. so Thanks

@@mpd4173 Hello, I know it's been a long time. I have the same problem that the machine does not start after service mode. Were you able to solve your problem back then?
