Ahh, who needs to be informed when there's such balderdash in the world?
Just a point of note. It's not 'Riga-marole'. It's 'Rig-marole'. There is no 'a' between the 'g' and 'm'.
@@AnOldeSpartan It's spelled either way. But using fewer letters does help conserve the precious resources of our planet. But I'm forever going to use the original term "ragman roll".
@@runrig97I haven't heard 'Ragman roll' since the late 70's. My Great nan used to say it like that. And you are right about the alternate spelling. I just don't like the way Rigamarole sounds when spoken. The 'a' just ruins the flow of the word.
However, your comment reminds me that it has changed alot already. Even just in my 49 years and I should just get over it really.😄
I got the kit I ordered today, but the kaboodle was out of stock.

At least we've avoided a kerfuffle.
It's best to avoid those, you're not getting a kerfuffle stain out for sure.
Definitely don't want that, and certainly don't want it to become a gyration.

Absolute GOLD!!
A rigamarole is really a whole shabang.
The origin of the "the whole shebang" is one of my favorite language stories. Per "The Dictionary of American Slang," "the whole shebang" originally referred to a completed military pup tent composed of two "shelter halves" buttoned together. Two troops would pool their shelter half segments to complete the pup tent, i.e., the whole shebang. As I recall, this goes back to the Civil War.

"Rigmarole" (often spelled "rigamorole") refers to a lengthy and complicated procedure or a long, rambling story or statement. It typically implies that the process or explanation is unnecessarily complex or tedious.

This production is really good. The same person playing two roles in the same frame is challenging but the timing here is spot on, so it all looks natural. Well, as natural as two people in a white void can be, I suppose. Good job, Julie. Love your videos.
I wouldn't mind restarting this video several times and going through the whole rigamarole every time.
It originally comes from a middle english term called a ragman roll, which was a list of dos and don'ts that were presented to the people. Hence, things were explained to you from the ragman roll which eventually evolved into the modern term.

Just like I'm SURE the list of

Rigamarole is another way of saying “a difficult process of performing a task or a series of tasks usually to accomplish a goal.”
So that includes the whole ball of wax?
Great job!
Thanks
I swear she said "Rick roll" one of those times
In the Middle Ages, the term Rageman or Ragman referred to a game in which a player randomly selected a string attached to a roll of verses and read the selected verse. The roll was called a Ragman roll after a fictional king purported to be the author of the verses. By the 16th century, ragman and ragman roll were being used figuratively to mean "a list or catalog." Both terms fell out of written use, but ragman roll persisted in speech, and in the 18th century it resurfaced in writing as rigmarole, with the meaning "a succession of confused, meaningless, or foolish statements." In the mid-19th century rigmarole (also spelled rigamarole, reflecting its common pronunciation) acquired the sense referring to a complex and ritualistic procedure.
Thank you for letting me know about this sponsor!! What a great resource! Will definitely check it out. And also….Genius comedy as usual 😉
Two Julies hanging out in this empty plane is one of my favorite genres of Julie videos.
This bugged me so much I had to ask ChatGPT:
"The term "rigamarole" has an interesting history, evolving from the Middle English word "ragman," which referred to a long, rambling list or document. The origin traces back to a medieval game called "Ragman's Roll," where players would draw from a roll of parchment to receive a humorous verse or task. Over time, "ragman" and "ragman's roll" morphed into "rigmarole," coming to describe any long, drawn-out, and confusing process or speech."
Just so you know, studies show CHATGPT lies or is incorrect 20% of the time. No joke.

You are correct...the proper spelling is "rigmarole" 😊
The spelling wars shall forever live on 😂
Amazingly this whole skit is actually a rigamarole. At least according to the definition of a rigamarole. "something (such as a procedure or an explanation) that is long, complicated, and tedious' :)
HOW do you finagle an entire sketch out of this?😂
Julie has figured it out - if you have ultimate acting talent, all you need is just make up a word and just act around it.
It's an actual word! Even Google search is spiking on it!
I had to look up the etymology of Rigamarole. "The first records of the term rigmarole come from around the 1730s. It is a variation of the term ragman roll, meaning “a long list.” The term rigmarole is a colloquialism of the obsolete term ragman roll"
And we now see a sudden spike in google searches for the meaning of the word 'rigamarole'.
The word "rigmarole" comes from "ragman roll," a medieval term for a long, complicated list or document. The name "ragman roll" originated from a game where people drew random verses attached to a roll of parchment. Over time, this term evolved into "rigmarole," meaning a lengthy and confusing procedure.
Yeah, Julie's sketch launched a fun research jaunt.
Rigmarole, with many variant spellings in the 18th century, is probably a reduction of ragman roll, a long catalog or list, a sense dating from the early 16th century. In Middle English ragmane rolle was a roll or scroll of writing used in a game of chance in which players draw out an item hidden in the roll. This game of chance possibly arose from Ragemon le bon (Rageman the Good), an Anglo-French poem. The sense “confused, incoherent, foolish, or meaningless talk” dates from the 18th century; the sense “elaborate or complicated procedure” dates from the 19th.
I thought I knew what a rigamarole was, then I watched this video.
The whole ball of wax, one might say.
