Hey Conor! I'm an intern working at the NHoF and I've really enjoyed listening to Speed Street while I process photo collections! This was such a fun interview and I hope you get Pato back on the pod soon
Patos potential F1 seat story makes me dream what could have been if only Charlie were still with us may he rest in peace. But everything happens for a reason super happy for him. Good Luck in Xfinity and trucks Conor!
I’ve learned to not judge a race by the first stint. There is so much strategy unfolding I find it entertaining to try to understand what my favorites are up to.
It was cool to hear his thought process during the last couple laps at Indy. Do I go for it now should I wait a little longer , will I still be able to pass if I wait a turn or two? All at 225-230 mph. 😮
I have a suggestion for past driver of the week. Denny Zimmerman , from the town I grew up in- Glastonbury CT..1971 or 2 rookie of the year at the 500. Maybe it's not all that exciting but for a 11 or 12 yo kid in Glastonbury, it was shocking and amazing as was his disappearance from racing afterward.
Podium one Joe New, Lil Dave, and Alex P. Race 2 Scotty Mac, Scotty D, and Joe New. VIR is a great track enjoy, I make a couple track days up there a year. I hope you show out that world is tough to get into. Pato interview was a top three for sure.
Will the added tire degradation result in more marbles and a one groove track? Hopefully there’s a debri caution thrown to sweep the track if that’s the case.

That was a very good interview. Loved the insight into Helmut Marko's role at Red Bull. I get the impression you were expecting the hybrid system to create more overtaking. I know from F1 that it doesn't. It's real world purpose is fuel economy; i.e. harvest energy from braking to save on fuel. In racing it's 'free' extra performance, though I still haven't figured out whether it's actually worth lugging around an extra 100+lb of MGU and battery. Does the power boost overcome the disadvantage of the weight?
@@ConorDaly22 Thought so. Hybrid is a white elephant in racing terms. Hopefully, Seb Vettel's Race Without Trace initiative will get some traction. Stefano Domenicali at the FIA seems interested, but it'll be at least 2030 before they change the F1 regulations again.

1:40 Conor saying what many of us have thought, after attending a handful of races…it’s a better show on TV. THAT SAID, races are a social event, where people share in the sounds, the sights, the smells and the food that come with racing, and the outdoors. Conor seems to be the modern version of Robin Miller…different technology, but the same (maybe more) expertise/intuition. Would be cool to see the electric motor torque the car out of the pit box, then have the petrol engine engage after that…someday. I’ve said it before, the podium ceremony HAS to be on the front straight, on that portable podium/driver intro trailer. So the fans can participate.
Going to the event still is awesome but for someone who is trying to have all the info for a podcast it’s better for me to watch on tv hah Completely agree the podiums need to be much better!

Keep it up dude
Been thinking differently about tire degradation.. what if they design a tire that doesn’t degrade so much and came up with a car that didn’t make such a problem for passing and that combination allowed for multiple lines through a turn. Instead of one line through turns because of marbles and cars that can’t pass because the dirty air makes it impossible. Indycar must think outside the box!
