Can’t remember his name, but the Judo instructor of Bruce’s first student was asked about Bruce’s grappling and ground game, and the guy basically said he was decent at stand-up grappling, he sucked at ground game grappling, but he was too fast for most guys to be able to reliably take him down, which I thought was cool.
The guy who played Bruce Lee here is Danny Chan Kwok Kwan, well known for his resemblance to the former. He even wore Bruce Lee’s Game of Death jumpsuit in Shaolin Soccer, and played Bruce Lee in a TV series

I gotta watch these movies now! I have only seen the first Ip Man movie...I didn't know Bruce was in the narrative! super cool. Thanks for this video, it's always fun to hear instructors break down fight scenes from movies.
@@RiveBassCovers But this movie timeline is different, IP man should be about 20 years younger than the real life, so in Ip man 1, he was about 25, and in this one, he was around 50. I am so glad you pointed out the nunchuck thing. Lol. If I'm not mistaken, he was really big on the idea of having the whip stick to wrap around blocks on the half beat around this time? (Which I assume is actually supposed to be 1964 given the exhibition, so I think this is the year he would've met Dan but not yet been actively training with him.)
Hitting some one in the head, is leaving yourself wide open to attack, esp fighting someone else who has done martial arts, even some street fighter can see it coming and counter it.
What do you guys think of a possible WONG SHUN LEUNG FILM? Which would be connected to the Ip Man series. Hey Sifu Stahl, you should do a video on Wong Shun Leung. Thanks!
That would be cool. They did make a sequal about the student of Yuen Kay San that was defeated in the 3rd movie. It's highly fictionalized, but supposedly the character is based on Sum Nung. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_Z:_Ip_Man_Legacy
Are you sure bro? Danny Chan kwok-kwan playing as Bruce Lee is a Martial Artist he is a Jeet kune do practitioner also & he played not only for that Ip man 3 & 4 movies as Bruce lee but also portrayed The Legend of Bruce Lee in 2008 television series produced by Bruce lee daughter the one & only SHANNON LEE.
@@Anton-ce1np I am 100% sure. I’ve pored over his technique in every episode and appearance as Bruce Lee. It is NEVER him when there are spin kicks involved. Even in the alley street fight, none of the kicks are particularly high, and he never spins. Danny Chan can pull off the hands, but not the legs. He was a dancer first, which made it easier for him to transition to martial arts, but yeah, I’m sure. I’m huge into the fine details of fighting mechanics.
Have you seen the Grandmaster, or the last dragon or the Bruce Lee series on Netflix, or Dragon the Bruce Lee story, an older movie called Bruce Lee the man the myth the legend
This movie is one giant Chinese propaganda tract. As a JKD rpractioner since 2005 I still can't watch this movie without a clear contentious. That being said, who doesn't love Bruce ? The casting is good but this sequence ignores all the Wing Chun he practiced. At this point in his life this fight would look much more like Wing Chun and not like the films he did later. Had he incorporated fencing footwork and savate kicks yet?
I appreciate the bit about Guru Dan and the nunchaku, but I think a little wording difference may be needed. I wouldn’t necessarily think Guru Dan was the one who exposed him to the nunchaku, just the one who trained him. Guru Dan recounted that he taught Bruce a set and Bruce practiced it obsessively overnight to perfection for filming the next day. I’m sure Bruce would’ve been exposed to the nunchaku earlier than meeting Guru Dan. However, I’m not saying he trained with them pre-Inosanto badassery, but I’m sure he’d be aware of them and a few other flails from Chinese and other Asian martial arts. Anyway, I loved this movie and appreciate your take on it, especially the technical aspects that they included. Oh and the collabs are fantastic. I particularly like how you’re warming Icy Mike up to JKD 😂
It’s a shame there isn’t enough media depictions of Dan Inosanto as there is Bruce Lee. The man’s life is filled with marital arts movie tropes: trained since a kid, a part of a prestigious military group, brought validity to an obscure martial art, and spends his elder years being a grandmaster of multiple martial arts
@6:25mins - That is continuous switch step combined with turning stance on the balls of your feet: Classic Wing Chun foot work. Not that this guy knows BTW.
Actually, the Jing energy that powers the "one inch punch" is used continuously in an ON/OFF pattern. Therefore, Wing Chun Jing energy that powers the inch punch is used not in emergency situation - as is thought - but in every technique used by a Wing Chunner. Once again, not like this guy knows.
I wonder if this guy is an actual licenced JKD instructor? I have met them before and they are not versed in Wing Chun. I can say this as I am a Master of 4 styles of Wing Chun. Bruce Lee used the Sui Nim Tao and Chum Cui with the 4 sections of the Mook Jong he was taught and based JKD off this. And as I am aware there are only 7 actual authorised JKD instructors on the Planet i.e., authorised by Bruce Lee. So, is this gent a JKD instructor or a You Tuber that practices what he sees on videos?

The light kick was first in Marlowe, starring James Garner and then in Way (Return) of the Dragon.
In this movie.. why is there a hanging light there in the alley, and what's it hanging from?

That light was in his eyes and that door was closed, Bruce kicked the light on Marlow and in Way of the Dragon
In ‘Marlowe’ Bruce played Winslow Wong where he kicked the light in James Garner’s office and in ‘Way of the Dragon’ he did the same thing.
If Bruce trained with Gene LeBell and those other high-ranking grapplers. I’m sure he got something good out of it.
This movie took place in 1972, because at the end Ip Man passed away from cancer. Bruce Lee actually passed away 7 months after Ip Man did
