    I live in the city of Decatur. With the high taxes, we also get our own police and fire departments, which are far better than Atlanta's. You also didn't mention the low crime compared with Atlanta. And I have a 20 minute commute to Downtown Atlanta which was a major factor in buying here.

    • @movingtoatlantaga
      @movingtoatlantaga  3 года назад

      Mike - those are good points. City of Decatur is really a great place to live. You can't beat the location if you work downtown (just hit Dekalb Avenue) or at Emory.

    Still has a high crime rate though less than Atlanta. A dude I used to see in Oakhurst every day at the bus stop got beat to death in a park here 2 months ago. So sad. It sucks here in Decatur now.

      Correct. They do a terrific job and are one of the big selling points for many people. Thanks for pointing that out!

    Why no mention of crime rate which is sky high..i live here and some areas are down right scary...expecially at night...i get it your job is to get people to move here...but crime is the big issue here

    • @movingtoatlantaga
      @movingtoatlantaga  2 года назад

      Hi Robert - I hear you. This is a national problem, not just an Atlanta problem. There are definitely areas in Atlanta that are safer than others, like any other large metro area.

      South Decatur out of the city limits I’m sure the crime is quite bad and that’s why I steer clear of those areas

    • @fatlarry1000

    • @movingtoatlantaga

      Yes - there is unincorporated Dekalb that has a mailing address of Decatur and then there is 30030, City of Decatur.

    You were definitely on point. The cost of living in Decatur is expensive. I guess Little Five Points would be a pro??

    • @movingtoatlantaga
      @movingtoatlantaga  3 года назад

      The neighborhoods around Little 5 Points are Inman Park and Candler Park, which are definitely not the cheaper parts of Atlanta. Unincorporated Dekalb is less expensive than City of Decatur for sure.

    I'm from Decatur Ga, and I grew up there attended Fifth Avenue Elementary School as a child. It wasn't so expensive to live there.

    • @movingtoatlantaga
      @movingtoatlantaga  3 года назад

      Hey Rick! Decatur really has been growing since about 1997. It's so in demand, they had to add a new elementary school not too long ago. I think the great schools and the charm of the homes and the downtown make a lot of people want to live there!

      That was a long time ago. It ain’t like that anymore. If you don’t make $200,000 per year good luck buying a house around here. Small tacky condos just popped up everywhere selling point starts at $700,000. It’s like living in Southern California except without the beach life, night life scene. It used to be Affordable︋ and had a good night life music scene. Not anymore.

    Ok so we showed a courthouse which isn’t actually the courthouse anymore, and hasn’t been for many years. Porch fest is Oakhurst, not a product of City of Decatur. HUGE difference between City of Decatur and Decatur/unincorporated Dekalb (crime rates and taxes). Housing is not affordable all over the metro atlanta area, not just here in Decatur, though I will give you the benefit of the doubt on this since this video is almost a year old and prices are starting to level out. It’s also not far from the interstates at all, it’s just better and faster to cut through town rather than sit in that parking lot.

    • @movingtoatlantaga
      @movingtoatlantaga  2 года назад

      Hi Rhonda, thanks for the comment! You are correct that Porch Fest is not put on by City of Decatur, but Oakhurst is in the city limits. And yes the old courthouse is now used for special events like weddings and the current courthouse is just across the square in a high rise building.

  • @fatlarry1000
    @fatlarry1000 2 года назад

    He's talking about CITY OF DECATUR. NOT DECATUR! You move to Decatur your going to see none of this. You will see a very high crime rate and poverty. Candler road literally goes from the hood to BelAir!!!!
