this is an interesting social documentary. about how a place got ripped apart. it's interesting to try to reimagine Greenock town centre if many of the buildings had been conserved. although many of the buildings were poor in the town centre they had a port configuration and heritage; little winding streets and closes. yes it all got a bit run down in the 60s but imagine they had done the buildings up rather than knock them down. an unfortunate theme in 70s was knock down for 'progress'. Of course people needed to have made or found better homes, but it's amazing what renovation can do to a building.
However the footprint of the place is still there somewhere and a really aesthetically interesting town could still be developed using clever modern architecture. Such an enviable situation on the Clyde. Just needs to be distinctive. Have an architecture competition!

Many of those buildings could have been conserved but it's about contracts to rebuild but not to the quality of what was demolished. Also, contracts to the demolition companies...this is the reality
