15 years of annual real paycuts amounting to 26% isn’t some temporary thing. The government has every intention of continuing the real paycuts in the future. But doctors are already starting work on £14/hr, if the pay cuts continue the exodus from the NHS will just worsen. You can’t do high quality healthcare by offering minimum hourly wage as the “incentive”.

The low quality healthcare the British public receive from junior doctors warrants a pay cut - not a 26% rise.

@@taffyterrier the 26% real pay cuts the British public have imposed on junior doctors over the last decade warrants low quality healthcare.
An FY1 doctor earns £14/hr. They are leaving. You get what you pay for.

Real terms pay cuts only apply to low paid workers - junior doctors pay has increased over the past 14 years - if a first year junior doctor receives £58k per annum with enhancements for working a 56 hour week the average hourly rate is a lot higher than the minimum wage.

Its not just pay that has been eroded for junior doctors in the past 10-15 years it is also huge cuts to pensions, hospital accommodation used to be provided, workload has increased, GMC fees have increased. I could move to Australia and earn double what I get paid in the UK for being a Gp

A Doctor is greedy when he asks for pay rise, BUT not the train staff, royal mail staff, teachers , bus drivers, civil servants, judges etc etc..
Fuel is up, grocery is up, everything is going north but a Doctor should not ask pay rise...
It always comes to these demeaning talks whenever Doctors talk about their own working conditions and pay...

The relevant fact is that people are suffering - all the prices have gone up, the wages have effectively gone down, inflation is ruining peoples lives. That is why they are striking!
