Such a nice lady to put a metal bit in his mouth and then tighten a leather strap around his mouth so he can’t open it when the bit hits the roof of his mouth. Didn’t you notice the leather strap around his nose? Just looks like torture.
@@kayBTR I mean, even if the procedure is uncomfortable it is short-lived. If she just left the abcessed/fractured tooth in that horse would be in immense, ever-worsening pain and at high risk of dangerous infection. If a pet dog breaks their tooth in half playing, are you just gonna let the dog yelp and whine as the nerve pain takes over? When he/she stops eating their food? No, you take him or her to the vet. Besides, she said the horse wasn't gaining as much weight as she was hoping for which indicates that he isn't eating as much food as he would normally. Gotta figure the tooth pain was causing too much discomfort to eat properly.
James harriet always described how veterinary medicine changed and became more modern in his lifetime. However the one area of practice that he said felt downright medieval to him was horse dentistry, not because of bad or ineffective standard practice of the time but simply because of the tools of the trade he used to do his work. Long far reaching tongs, mouth speculums, all sorts of things and to this day those same kinds of tools are in use.
Well why wouldn't they be? Teeth are teeth. Just some are bigger than others. It's interesting to think that every mammal is built in about the same way. Whether it's a mouse, a man, or an elephant, we all have the same parts located in about the same place and they do the same things. With a few minor adjustments, the design of all mammals is very much the same thing over and over and over. Pick an organ. Once you know where to find it on any given mammal, you know where to find it on any other mammal.

when doing anything in the mouth, even floating, most times they do a little anesthetic. Horses stand throughout. they also probably gave lidocaine for a nerve block.

I love seeing responsible owners who truly love and care for their Animals. I also love seeing skilled Veterinarians and Dentists helping these beautiful Animals!! ❤
I'm a human dentist and I SO respect vets and what they are able to do. I sometimes wonder if I went down the right career path. Would love to treat animals all day!
This is an excellent procedure; the horse is sedated just enough to keep it very still but standing; and the jaw brace and head rest complete with vets headlight shining into the mouth is quick and efficient to rid the problem.
We know that the doctor is helping us even though it hurts. Animals don't, unless they do it very often, so I was worried about the pain during the removal. You guys are awesome.
Excellent video! I was totally terrified of my own molar extraction with abscess. 2 hours took my tooth to get out, constantly thinking about how well calm and nice this horse managed it!
You'd think that tooth puller would slip off the tooth. I thought there was a piece of hard rubber that helps with the grip. Great Video!! Very Interesting!! Wow, that's a big tooth saw! I'd be REALLY nervous walking behind a big horse that just got it's tooth pulled. AWESOME VIDEO!!
Hhahaaha god that walk at the end just reminds me of every teenager with their wisdom teeth out "When am I gonna eat the hay again when am I gonnnaaa...waaaallkk.....uuuhhh"
Dont own any but a very intresting video i love how he was treated better then we are at our human dentists lol ... he was very calm to is that from the meds maybe?
Poor guy must have had a sore mouth. I’m glad this lady has obviously taken such good care of him. He looks great for 19.

i just find it funny how the tools are literally just magnified versions of the human equivalent.
Dornatum I thought I heard something about horses having similar teeth to humans when I was a kid, I may be wrong
Pretty much, minus the sharp canines we have their teeth are the same.
@@CynicalPanda1017 being a dentist i can tell you their structure is identical to ours (like most living animals) but their shape is nothing like.
