Building the final mold. Casting metal. Finishing the object. Patination treatment. Part 1: • Crocodile bronze sculp... Järvilinna Art Centre, Laukaa, Finland: www.jarvilinna....
That is so incredible, watching the whole process. I cast in resin and do a faux bronze/gold finish. Then I attach them to my vehicle. It gets the looks going down the road.
Wonderful video, I have always appreciated sculpting. Many years ago, when I was in art school, I focused on drawing and painting. However I admit that I was a little envious of those students in the sculpture classes. There is something especially nice about working in three dimensions. I admire your skill as an artist, as well as the technical knowledge required to translate your work into a metal casting.
I liked the clay and the wax sculptures so much I hated they had to be damaged in the process! That's two perfect replicas -gone :( (and you know you could make a mold to refill with other materials & sell!). Even if you used a light filler for center/reduce cost on major cost/outer shell casting material. Beautiful job! You're more patient than me :oD
It's a silicone mold. They can make as many wax copies as they want, very easily. Making polyurethane, fibreglass and plaster casts can also be made from it. I make them myself all the time.
good video and very nice work, how long does it take you to finish the whole work since you've got the clay/plaster sculpture? how many days, weeks or you could finish a SMALL sculpture in only one day? let's say, from 4:00 AM in the morning to 12:00 AM at night.. how long did it take you to finish this crocodile?
Maybe 10-20 working hours for a small sculpture to create a finished bronze cast. Depends much on the form and details of the sculpture. The crocodile took 100 +hours.
Thank you for this interesting instructional video. I have 2 questions: 1) at what temperature did you fire the plaster/sand mould when dewaxing? 2) did you pour bronze when mold was still hot? Thank you very much, I really appreciate your work and sharing.
+Phoxinus1 Wow, I would have said the mold would crack or even the plaster mix turn to powder at such high a temperature! Thank you for your fast reply
Master, I usually melt scrap brass for casting but many times I have problem with metal shrinkage. I think with a true bronze composition this problem can be solved. what alloy composition do you recommend? do you use silicone bronze? is this correct that many bronze alloys expand as they solidify?
+reza emami i'm just a learner. Our Master mixes scrap bronze and brass with pure metals to an alloy of 85 % copper, 5 % tin, 5 % lead and 5 % zinc. With this composition the shrinkage is 2 %. Typical shrinkage allowances for bronze alloys: images.slideplayer.com/2/730193/slides/slide_21.jpg
+Phoxinus1 tnx for your very precious answer. I have seen different recomended statuary copper alloys but I will try this one you mentiond because your information and suggestions to me have been always helpul and valuable.
10 € / kg (approximately 13 $ / kg) including materials for the casting molds (sand, plaster, sprues) and fuel oil costs for mold burnout and melting the metal. List of materials used: iron wire, clay (for the original model), mold silicone, plaster, hessian cloth, wax (the mold for pouring wax), sand, gravel, plaster, water, wax sprues, sisal twine, iron wire (for the casting mold), bronze, nitric acid, liver of sulfur.
Thank you! I intend to cast a motorcycle fuel tank and everybody say I'm crazy and that the easiest way is molding aluminum sheets. But I really want to cast it! I didn't find online anybody that could help with some tips specifically for a fuel tank. I taught doing it in 2 halves, each one molded like your alligator and then welded together. What do you think? Best regards, Flavio (from Brazil)
oh my those nitric acid fumes surely look dire!
Gorgeous! You are a real master
todella mielenkiintoinen prosessi ja mahtava lopputulos.
Talk about Patience! Bravo! Very Nice!

Thanks for sharing the whole process, brilliant seeing it thru from start to amazing finish .. thankyou :)
Thank you so much for sharing your talent and hard work! I admire your huge talent and patience. Thank you!

wow, you did all the step yourself! Kudos!

Yeah there has to be a way to reuse the wax mold.
It's a silicone mold. They can make as many wax copies as they want, very easily. Making polyurethane, fibreglass and plaster casts can also be made from it. I make them myself all the time.
Why didn't you do a mould directly from the clay piece?
very nice work
Stunning!
magnifique.... Bravo....
in the first video you made a mold. now you make another. was tje first mold for the wax and this one is for bronze casting????
Confusing but amazing to watch
Your work is very realistic! Can I clarify the composition of the molding mixture? Is it plaster or plaster? How much sand do you add?
wowww, that's amazing.
GOOD WORK

was that lava in that buckit?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????!
hello there, what did u use for the mold? it looks like concrete

+ZippyCalzeLunghe ) Master fires molds at 700-800 °C. 2) No.

Very nice, would have been even nicer to have some narrative.
Awesome work! What kind of plaster did you use for the final mold?
Very cool

how much $$$ per kg to fill the mold do they charge?
also what materials did you use: latex, wax, clay, mud?
10 € / kg (approximately 13 $ / kg) including materials for the casting molds (sand, plaster, sprues) and fuel oil costs for mold burnout and melting the metal. List of materials used: iron wire, clay (for the original model), mold silicone, plaster, hessian cloth, wax (the mold for pouring wax), sand, gravel, plaster, water, wax sprues, sisal twine, iron wire (for the casting mold), bronze, nitric acid, liver of sulfur.
Congratulations for a perfect job! What did you use for the final mold? Regards!
Thank you. The mold mass consists of sand, fine gravel and plaster mixed with water.
Thank you! I intend to cast a motorcycle fuel tank and everybody say I'm crazy and that the easiest way is molding aluminum sheets.
But I really want to cast it!

Flavio Vianna I have seen vehicle parts being cast in aluminium with sand casting process. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_casting Then welded together.
good tunes
this is 1 step cement? pls tell me
so nice video, ican u tell us wich kind of wax do u use? tks again
Cheese wax.
thanks for this helpful video. can you explain about drying, wax burnout and baking time and temperature?
We don't dry molds for purpose but place them often straight into the kiln which is heated with an oil burner at 750 Celcius for 12 hours.
Phoxinus1 tnx teacher. thanks to your help,I could do almost the same process successfully.
Phoxinus1 one more question. How can I recycle the wax? will you please introduce some homemade devices or easy ways?
reza emami No experience for recycling the wax.
Phoxinus1 tnx anyway. your video has been very helpful for me.
france : respect !!!!
May I ask what you used for investment?
Sand and plaster mixed with water.
WHICH CEMENT IS THIS
how much does it weigh?
19 kg.
Phoxinus1 Cool croco. Looks very real.
Any thoughts on how to create a mold for a fiberglass part?
***** No experience for fiberglass.
What is the material of mold? what wax?
sand and plaster (4:1) mixed with water
Cheese wax that is mainly paraffin
sand is quarz? any?
and...can i use a plaster gypsum?
light sand from nature containing mostly quarz
erm ... what is the price of the finished product ?
Not for sale.
ok but am just wondering if its worth making it :) how much is it worth ?
KtotheP tv The sentimental value is higher than the cost price.
stop chasing the cat by its tail and just tell me straight what the cost of materials was please :)
KtotheP tv The cost of materials for this work was 250-300 €.
killing me softly 1:14
too much work involved
what a mess Wife says NO
to much work,,,, there's a lot other easier ways to do it.
how?
Amazing
