    That is so incredible, watching the whole process. I cast in resin and do a faux bronze/gold finish. Then I attach them to my vehicle. It gets the looks going down the road.

    Wonderful video, I have always appreciated sculpting. Many years ago, when I was in art school, I focused on drawing and painting. However I admit that I was a little envious of those students in the sculpture classes. There is something especially nice about working in three dimensions. I admire your skill as an artist, as well as the technical knowledge required to translate your work into a metal casting.

    I liked the clay and the wax sculptures so much I hated they had to be damaged in the process! That's two perfect replicas -gone :( (and you know you could make a mold to refill with other materials & sell!). Even if you used a light filler for center/reduce cost on major cost/outer shell casting material. Beautiful job! You're more patient than me :oD

      Yeah there has to be a way to reuse the wax mold.

      It's a silicone mold. They can make as many wax copies as they want, very easily. Making polyurethane, fibreglass and plaster casts can also be made from it. I make them myself all the time.

    good video and very nice work, how long does it take you to finish the whole work since you've got the clay/plaster sculpture? how many days, weeks or you could finish a SMALL sculpture in only one day? let's say, from 4:00 AM in the morning to 12:00 AM at night..
    how long did it take you to finish this crocodile?

    • @Phoxinus1
      @Phoxinus1  10 лет назад

      Maybe 10-20 working hours for a small sculpture to create a finished bronze cast. Depends much on the form and details of the sculpture. The crocodile took 100 +hours.

    Thank you for this interesting instructional video.
    I have 2 questions:
    1) at what temperature did you fire the plaster/sand mould when dewaxing?
    2) did you pour bronze when mold was still hot?
    Thank you very much, I really appreciate your work and sharing.

    • @Phoxinus1
      @Phoxinus1  8 лет назад

      +ZippyCalzeLunghe ) Master fires molds at 700-800 °C. 2) No.

    • @ZippyCalzeLunghe
      @ZippyCalzeLunghe 8 лет назад

      +Phoxinus1 Wow, I would have said the mold would crack or even the plaster mix turn to powder at such high a temperature! Thank you for your fast reply

    Master, I usually melt scrap brass for casting but many times I have problem with metal shrinkage. I think with a true bronze composition this problem can be solved. what alloy composition do you recommend? do you use silicone bronze? is this correct that many bronze alloys expand as they solidify?

    • @Phoxinus1
      @Phoxinus1  9 лет назад +1

      +reza emami i'm just a learner. Our Master mixes scrap bronze and brass with pure metals to an alloy of 85 % copper, 5 % tin, 5 % lead and 5 % zinc. With this composition the shrinkage is 2 %. Typical shrinkage allowances for bronze alloys: images.slideplayer.com/2/730193/slides/slide_21.jpg

      +Phoxinus1 tnx for your very precious answer. I have seen different recomended statuary copper alloys but I will try this one you mentiond because your information and suggestions to me have been always helpul and valuable.

    how much $$$ per kg to fill the mold do they charge?
    also what materials did you use: latex, wax, clay, mud?

    • @Phoxinus1
      @Phoxinus1  10 лет назад

      10 € / kg (approximately 13 $ / kg) including materials for the casting molds (sand, plaster, sprues) and fuel oil costs for mold burnout and melting the metal. List of materials used: iron wire, clay (for the original model), mold silicone, plaster, hessian cloth, wax (the mold for pouring wax), sand, gravel, plaster, water, wax sprues, sisal twine, iron wire (for the casting mold), bronze, nitric acid, liver of sulfur.

      Thank you! I intend to cast a motorcycle fuel tank and everybody say I'm crazy and that the easiest way is molding aluminum sheets.
      But I really want to cast it!
      I didn't find online anybody that could help with some tips specifically for a fuel tank.
      I taught doing it in 2 halves, each one molded like your alligator and then welded together.
      What do you think?
      Best regards,
      Flavio (from Brazil)

      Flavio Vianna I have seen vehicle parts being cast in aluminium with sand casting process. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_casting Then welded together.
