I remember watching this with my dad as a kid...my dad laughed so hard he had tears in his eyes!!! 😅Thanks for the memories, Richard. RIP sweet man. 💜💜
Richard and David could of had their own show together. They were a hilarious team. I could watch them two together all day. They really were good friends in real life and Richard was close to David's mom.
I think even Richard Simmons is not make any appearance anymore, he should keep making his innovations and sell it on the market for new generations to be able to use them such as his workout videos (make it into dvd), Deal-A-Meal, FoodMover (I think it is still available on Amazon and ebay). I never had a chance to buy his steamer years ago and now the price is so high... oh well.
“It’s not a go-go cart” is still one of my favorite, utterly ridiculous one-liners. If it were on a tee shirt, I’d absolutely wear it. I have to come back and watch this now and then for a good laugh.
From what I hear, he was one of the most genuine, outgoing, and truly LOVED his fans and was one of the most entertaining guests in history of TV talk and radio (Prime Howard Stern).....He will be missed!
I always felt sorry for Richard Simmons I always felt like nobody took him seriously but he seems like such a genuine good hearted person I also never knew he had a steamer it actually looked decent hope he's well
Everything I've heard about him makes him seem like a very genuine person, but he definitely is eccentric with a capital "e", and he definitely plays into it.
2:02 Richard grabs the cord. There is a switch on it so that Richard can activate the spark when he's ready. We need to stop automatically believing everything we hear and see on television.
Who cares if he pulled the chord?? It's JUST pure entertainment!! Get over yourself. It's like magic shows on TV. People know it's not real but they are entertained. "We need to stop automatically believing everything we hear and see on television." 🤣😂 Don't be a douche bag!
These two were the best together! They should had a show. I never laughed so hard when he would have Richard on. Best memories ever!! I can’t stop laughing!😂
all jokes and sarcasm aside .. Richard loves David .. he wouldnt come back all those years to his show if he didnt love him .. he knows that david pokes fun at him for the ratings sake and he helps him out .. i think they are very good friends .. Those two have made some really funny shows together .. respects to them both
Richard, through his promotion of healthy living, saved literally millions of people from obesity, depression and suicide. What a wonderful person he was! An outstanding entertainer. RIP.
I just loved it when David Letterman at times antagonized Richard Simmons on the Late Show! These two were such a barrel of laughs😂! RIP Richard Simmons, you were the greatest!
One of the more hilarious moments ever on the show, but you can clearly see Richard reaching for the wire right as the smoke starts. And then he hits the ignition switch, although I'm sure he didn't expect the flame to be that close to his face.
actually he was not in on it. he was holding the steamer from falling off the table because daves mic was in the way. He was confused on why they attached a tray to it.. then when it started smoking he made the comment when he realized why they put the tray with it. It was one of daves pranks. he always messed with richard. Davew got really mad at richard once when he jumped in daves arms because dave had just had a surgery and it irritated it
@@anothermonday5664 Richard didn't reach for the wire. Richard rested his hand on the arm rest of the chair and his hand brushed against the wire and it moved. That's all that happened. This was a total set up by Letterman. Richard had no clue that was going to happen.
David: A Go-go kart, a GO-GO kart, I just never heard that expression. Go-go kart . . . Richard: ................ anyway here's my steamer!!! God, we need Richard to come back, I doubt he ever will come back.
you can see the fire mechanism at the 00:13 second mark. Then theres an awkward cut at the 16 second mark. They probably paused for a second to explain the bit to him
You can feel the apprehension from Richard since his last appearance, the last time before this he was on in 2000 David was spraying a fire extinguisher at Richard which caused him to have an Asthma Attack backstage, Richard took it as assault and didn’t return until THIS moment, what a contrast in behaviour!! I’m glad they were able to (kind of) make amends 🤷🏻♀️ (BTW I learned all of this today LOL I went down the RUclips suggestion rabbit hole and this is my final stop, the first stop was a Richard Simmons blooper reel now here I am knee-deep in 22 year old tea LOOOOL🤣👏🏼 god I love RUclips!)
Letterman was terrible in his final years. For most of his career he was hysterically funny and clever and unique. But in the end, he had turned into someone angry and bitter and painfully unfunny. It was very sad to watch. I completely agree about Craig Ferguson, though. That was the end of the fun.
Took me a long time to get that reference. At first I was like "Michael JACKSON?!" Then I read about how he was taping a Pepsi commercial and accidentally got his hair set on fire.
Anyone know what episode when There was a classic moment when a very fey-acting Simmons is watching Letterman take a puff on his cigar, and asks, "Dave, can you teach me how to smoke a cigar?" Letterman crooks his head a little bit with the response you know is coming, "Oh Richard, I think you already know how to smoke a cigar..." Of course, Simmons reacts in drop-jaw shock
Richard was such a good sport
Comedy would literally be nothing if it weren't for the Good Sports. He.was.The.Best.
RIP you magnificent bastard. Best legs in Late Night.
We need more Richard Simmons in this world. The crowd went wild whenever he was on Dave's show and for good reason.
Amen ❤
Nice
I always thought Richard Simmons wore headband

we need NO richard simmons in the world. he's a disgusting, perverted nobody.

Richard and David could of had their own show together. They were a hilarious team. I could watch them two together all day. They really were good friends in real life and Richard was close to David's mom.
You can see that, they where hysterically funny, impossible to not laugh.
Crazy thing is you can actually still buy this steamer and it now costs 150 dollars..which is still less than Dave's tie.
had to look it up n probably t one u saw was $150 cuz t one im lookin at on my screen right now is $489
forty five dollars on amazon

I take it you have a tiny brain?
After I heard he had passed, I had to watch this clip again. This is my favorite moment of his.
I had to watch this again after hearing of his passing. This is the way I remember him...
RIP Richard Simmons (1948-2024)
Richard, although very eccentric, is one of the nicest people you'd meet in Hollyweird. A genuinely nice person.
From what I hear, he was one of the most genuine, outgoing, and truly LOVED his fans and was one of the most entertaining guests in history of TV talk and radio (Prime Howard Stern).....He will be missed!
Brilliant on so many levels. Hey Dave, thanks for still being around. :)

So classic these bits with Richard. I will forever remember this and it always makes me chuckle heartily! 🤣🤣🤣

Makes perfect sense. Richard was probably in on the joke to make it start smoking, but he probably didn’t expect it to spark like that
Its possible he knew about the smoke but not that it would ignite a flame.
"It costs like 55 dollars" "holy crap..."

Richard Simmons, what a gem.
Richard, through his promotion of healthy living, saved literally millions of people from obesity, depression and suicide. What a wonderful person he was! An outstanding entertainer. RIP.
I wish Richard Simmons would come back to TV.
Richard Simmons was one of the best guests on Letterman.
Richard loved aggravating Letterman😆
Only Letterman could prank Simmons like this 😂😂😂
Dudes a trip, love him!
Richard was always a good sport. Hope he's happy out of the celebrity spotlight.
Mr Simmons was never less than delightful, his interactions with Letterman were the stuff of entertainment legend! Rest In Peace

At 1:59 you can clearly see him reach for the wire. And both Letterman and Leno have admitted a lot of the stuff they did was set up with him.

The smoke and fire came directly out of that tray that he wasn't aware of...

Richard Simmons is one of the greatest comedians of all time.
I have this steamer. Its awesome!
Did you pay 55 bucks?
In my opinion late night died completely when letterman went off the air.
End of an era for sure.
For me, it was when Craig Ferguson left. Conan is still around, so all is not lost yet.
Letterman was terrible in his final years. For most of his career he was hysterically funny and clever and unique. But in the end, he had turned into someone angry and bitter and painfully unfunny. It was very sad to watch.

You spelled “Conan” wrong.
You're absolutely right.
Nothing better that Dave shitting on a product he was supposed to help promote
Hey Mow Ron this is a fake product Richard is in on the joke.

"Let me show you mine."

Actually, that's a pretty accurate statement. Even if Richard was in on this, he was way too close for comfort to that fire.

Letterman was a savage.
