I remain curious - if Trump is truly civic minded and truly believes that the President should have absolute immunity, why did he not take this matter to SCOTUS during his 1st Impeachment Trial or even argue it during that trial?
Impeachment trial is not a case, so why would SCOTUS get involved?
They are arguing absolute immunity for OFFICIAL ACTS, not unofficial acts. He can't just go murder someone and say hey I'm president, release me. Murdering someone is not an official act for the public. Unfortunately, the lower courts failed to specify which acts were official and unofficial, they just charged them alll.

Because impeachment AND conviction is the normal, constitutional process when a president is alleged to have committed a high crime. The Supreme Court wouldn't take it up. And, he did kinda bring it up during the impeachment trial...he claimed executive privilege, which, along with presidential immunity, is not within the constitution, yet we still recognize executive privilege. So why not presidential immunity??

If the DOJ is going to have their stupid law that lets Presidents not face consequences while in office, then the Toll on the Statute Of Limitations should freeze while they are in office. A POTUS shouldn’t get to double-dip on protection from prosecution, and not freeze the tolling of time on the Statute Of Limitations. Let’s say that a crime gets done in 2016. The alleged criminal gets to enjoy protection from prosecution while in office. The 4 (or 8) years that person is in office, the statute clock should not tick. If that clock starts before taking office, that time should also not tick.
