An excellent, very interesting, professionally done video featuring more RT's than you can shake a stick at. In fact, I'm both surprised and delighted that so many have survived and are obviously kept in such beautiful condition. Of course, for those of my generation (I'm in my 70s now) the RT will forever be associated with the 1963 Cliff Richard film “Summer Holiday” (which also took us inside the Aldenham bus repair works) and I understand that the bus used in that film was bought by a private collector and still exists. On my last visit to London as a nine year old in 1956, I remember it being full of these buses, which were everywhere.
Love the old RT's.... it's amazing how classically modern their clean lines still look in the 21st century, particularly when you compare them to the ghastly biscuit tins on wheels that pass for buses today!
The RT´s and Routemasters are pretty much like the original Mini or the Aston Martin DB 5, They look perfect from every angle. Its just a perfect design.
@@johnjephcote7636 I remember it being a thrill whenever we saw a pre-war RT out on trainer duty, underlining its fleet number in our Ian Allan ABC booklets! I lived in Mill Hill in the 1950’s, so Aldenham Overhaul Works was the place we’d hang out at - not that we could see much! The long line of staff buses leaving the works at the end of the working day did yield some good results though, with several pre-war RT’s in the mix - happy days from a totally different era!
Everyone thinks of Routemaster as LONDON and what a magnificent success story they were. But to me its the RT RTL and the RTWs and lets not forget the trolleybuses.
Fond memories as a 10 yr old. Still love the engines 'hunting" @ 8:23 Thanks heavens there are folks who have the money to restore these legends. Thanks for the upload and memories. Unfortunately live in oz now, so cant attend these events :-(
OMG WONDERFUL "BUS PORN" !! thank you. My neighbour used to own a Routemaster, he had a huge driveway so it was always parked outside his house. Uses it for weddings and suchlike. The RM & RT AEC engines had that lovely friendly, growl at tick over, unmistakable. Plus the transmission whine, you could tell these busses with your eyes shuts. Used to travel to school on them
The look, the colour, the sound, its still all there in my memory, the string for the bell, the cubby for a piece of luggage, the amount of times to go top deck, ladies first of course. Great video, thanks. Barry. Devon
Beautiful video. I lived in London for a few months back in the mid 70s, and most of the RTs were already relegated to Training duties, but they were still in revenue service on at least two routes: 72 and 65. I never rode 72, but was a frequent passenger on 65 which if my memory serves me well, went south as far as Chessington Zoo. Thanks!!
superb video , i wish they were back on the roads everyday,,,still remember catching my dads bus to school everyday when he worked for crossville, and racing warrington borough council red buses down winick road here in warrington,,lol.
I came to London from Birmingham in 1957 I think it was , we rode on the trolley buses and I would think the RTs as well . Then I moved here in 1976 but im not sure if I caught the last of them . It was a real nice day , ive never been to a bus rally before . I went with 2 friends who collect bus fleet numbers . I though maybe some people on youtube might want to see it , im pleased you liked it . Thank you ....Ian.
I'm not a 'bus-spotter',but that whine these old vehichles make and that lazy tick-over is very nostalgic and one of my earliest memories.Modern transport,be it road, rail, air or sea is so soulless
You are so right! The Daily Telegraph once did a piece on the RT - I still remember how it talked of 'the big low stressed mellow six cylinder diesel, the whine from it's straight cut gears - and the occasional contented exhalation of compressed air'.....couldn't have put it better myself!
Great Ian, brought back memories seeing the No22, used to see it regularly in Hackney with the N0 30 & No 6 buses, those two used to run past my house in Wick Road. Great stuff mate. Cheers, Bob.
Im new to this , if there are anymore I will do them cause I know people love Buses , I had a ball it was something different I did not have to keep looking over my shoulder for pesky units getting in the way . Im not sure my style of shooting suits buses but I gave it a go . Riding on the RT from Hackney to Bank was great . We lost a lot getting these plastic inclosed buses plus all the jobs that went building them and keeping them in service, A great day for the RT bus.
THEY SHOULD KEEP A SMALL FEW OF THESE MAGNIFICENT BUSES IN SERVICE TO REMIND EVERYONE OF THE DAYS GONE PAST WHAT BUS TRAVEL WAS LIKE ' THESE BUSES HAD STYLE. 🌟🌟🌟 NOVEMBER 2016 ⌚⌚⌚
I REMEMBER MY DAD TAKING ME ON THESE OLD RT'S AND RTL'S FANTASTIC THE WAY YOU COULD JUST HOP ON AND OFF EVEN BETWEEN STOPS. REMEMBER STANDING ON THE PLATFORM AT THE BACK OF THE BUS AND HANGING ON TO THE POLE, GREAT STUFF............ CAN'T DO IT NOW DUE TO HEALTH AND SAFETY. I WISH THEY WOULD RUN THESE OLD BUSES MAYBE FOR NOSTALGIC REASONS. I MISS THE CONDUCTOR'S '' HOLD TIGHT NOW '' ANYMORE FARE'S. DING DING
I remember on that same year (2015) there was also a Heritage on Route 11 with RT's RM's & possibly some RML's, I managed to catch one from Liverpool Street, to Worlds End, then attempted to catch one back to Liverpool Street, but unfortunately missed the last one, so we ended up going to Hammersmith, where we caught the tube back... Was quite a day that was... Brilliant video btw, I subbed.
I want to go on one, sit in the front seat on the right, bottom deck, and imitate the driver, just as I did when I was a little boy. So glad there have been resounding changes though. Can you imagine how different the world would have been if "London Transport" hadn't changed to "Transport for London"?
I must be getting slow in my old age (!) but was wondering at first why even green, Country Area and Green Line RT's were carrying route 22 blinds! Wonderful video! Great sounds!
I used to drive these R.T.'s from Bromley garage , they were hard work as there was no power steering and you knew it when they were standing inside . Early one morning about 5 a. m. I managed to get 52 mph along Bromley common out of one of these .
Im rail bases only but had to do this and a couple of others I know a guy from acton for a while he worked in the factory they go on about routemasters but I think if you look at the films tv shows its Rts you see , I have travel sickness problems on new buses these ive none . Its a full time job driving one and must have been murder in summer thanks for posting Ian,
I used to drive RT,s out of Merton Garage, did not find the steering heavy and preferred a RT to a RM, having better acceleration and more nimble in traffic. Yes 52 mph was possible as they were governed to 50 unlike the 40 of the RM.
@@rodduffy6138 Merton (AL) never had any RF's whilst I was there, RT's, RM,s and Daimler OMO's both DD and SD. I was there during the early 70's, 73 onwards. The RM's were only on the 59 's. Only time I did any shunting from Morden was on Sundays when AL did the 93's instead of Sutton. It was a curtailed route on Sundays and didn't go to Sutton. I was on the 155's and 59's, so drove both RT's and RM's, loved it when an RT was on the 59 due to a shortage of RM's on that day.
Running on route 6 to Dentons Green, I rode on this bus many times going to and from West Park Grammar . It was also on the 15/16 Eccleston/Parr circular and on the 22, Happy Memories
@@kelvinbremont1341 Exactly. Why couldn't they retrofit the engines of the old Routemasters. The new Routemaster looks hideous IMO. Those who say they couldn't retro fit the old Routemaster with newer less polluting Engines are so wrong. If people can send a man to the moon in the 60s. Retrofitting a new Engine in a bus in this era should be Childs play for Engineers. Bring back the Old Routemaster to London I say. Those Buses are what made London.
B F i agree 100% with you my friend!! The new routemasters don’t even deserve to be called routemasters! They lack everything the older ones had. These routemasters were Iconic treasures. And they had the eyes of everyone including tourists. There should be a protest!

Even when I had to catch the bus to school..it was only the RM type I boarded..I hardly remember RTs.. they were an uncommon sight in London in my area..and I've spent my entire life in the Capital...so they don't hold any nostalgia for me..I also have a faint memory from under 4 or 5 of a Trolley Bus..and wires and cables...I used to jump off the moving RMs as late as possible till it hit nearly 20MPH...or maybe 15...I probably exaggerate 20..but it was fun..i did collide once with a temporary stop sign on a pole with concrete lump on the base..It pivoted but i got a lump too..kids eh..wish I'd travelled on the Green Line RMs a bit..I have no memories only seeing them at garages and stops and passing by..

208 to Bromley by Bow was RF having replaced the Q from the 1940’s early 50’s. 208A to Stratford was a LT Scooter in the 1940’s early 50’s I went to school on ‘em. Route 178 RLH operated to Stratford came several years later replacing RF’s on 208A which worked the route in late 50’s early 60’s.
This is a bit of a change Ian to buses, I think this is great! Those old buses can still give the new ones a run run for their money eh. Although I bet the brakes can be a bit scarey on the old ones. Thanks very much for uploading, excellent video and audio quality, Best, Dave.
I had been thinking of doing something different to the usual suspects that seem to appear on this channel. This seemed to fit the purpose . I had no idea what was going to happen I just turned up did Tornado in the morning then we headed off to Liverpool Street where we saw the first RT then to Hackney even when I was standing outside the garage I did not know there was a open day . Untill just before we went in . We missed all the early travel cause we were filming them leaving Ash Grove . But we caught one to Bank it was all free travel unless you wanted to travel behind RT1 then it was £10 . I just wish I had never ran out of steam at 15.00 , I would have loved to have seen the RT going from Homerton to Putney. A wonderful day in real good weather cant ask for more . Thanks for posting im looking forwards to the next one.....Ian.
Beautiful! In Glasgow I believe these double decker buses were coloured cream and green. I also loved the Trolley Cars and Busses they ran on electricity, how the conductor would switch the back of the seats on the Trolley Cars so the seats faced front, the Trolley Cars had a driving compartment at both ends. Any buses from WWI and the '30s?
RTs were graceful vehicles, unlike so many modern buses that look like rectangular tins that were shoddily built, eg those currently used by Arriva round my way, Maidstone
lovely vid, but shame we never got a rear view of an RTW, with its ads pasted round the corner and making it look even wider (we nearly did at 8.33 and 10.28)

I'm just wondering if those RTs and RTLs have the original engines because they had that 'growl' as I remember ,certainly the Leylands did. They did not sound the same when I heard them recently
D67 was one of the St.Helens replacement for the 6 trolley route. Does anyone remember the RT that had the accident hitting the bridge in Southport and being rebuilt with an East Lancs top?

No better bus I met someone who used to work for AEC at Acton nice conversation about bus repair and construction pity we don't make our own anymore.....ian.
A good video, but many of the buses show incorrect blinds that don’t match the route numbers. Example route 22 never went to Hackney Wick, neither did it go to Victoria.
A pity it was only the one shot taken. Can remember banging my head many times when getting out of my seat on the School bus service ( the only one on normal RF route, but had to take a detour to avoid a 10' 6" bridge).
Do all of those old buses shown at the start still exist in such great condition? If so, make them a "protected species"! They are full of character: the upholstery, the backend entrance, the little light bulbs, the conductor, the great sound of the engine, etc. Today's buses are just soulless tin boxes. I'm licensed to drive buses, & I'd jump at the chance to drive one of these! 🚌
Yes, it was odd and non-standard. It was built during a period when London Transport thought they'd be a shortage of bodies to mount on AEC chassis. Saunders bodied RTs, acquired for the same reason were much closer in profile to the Park Royal and Weymann bodied RTs, and their bodies were interchangeable when overhaul was due. As soon as it was realised that too many RTs had been ordered, the days of the Craven's bodied RTs in London were numbered, such was LT's drive towards standardisation. The Craven's when sold off in 1956/7 mostly served several years giving good service with provincial operators, such as Dundee Corporation and the A1 cooperative in Ayshire

Don't matter cant please everyone its my first bus video unknown territory for me , it helps if people don't like something as much as we like seeing likes it makes us try harder next time thanks anyway....ian
These Buses are what made London.

limehouse11 I have almost 100 Matt Monro hits. He was my most favorite singer of all time from my growing up years in Hong Kong from the mid 1960s to moment before he passed away in 1984.
Nice video, I was a driver at Catford garage TL from 1967 to 1972. Learned on an RTW. Enjoyed my time there, Routes 47 75 94 and 124. Then Routemasters came and in some ways just as enjoyable as RTs. Paul Davis Isle of Man.
Such a friendly looking bus - with the most reassuring sound......from the days of professional drivers and humorous conductors!
Yes, I grew up with them Country Area, Watford 1948-1969. They were everywhere.
Couldn't agree with you more!
The RT´s and Routemasters are pretty much like the original Mini or the Aston Martin DB 5, They look perfect from every angle. Its just a perfect design.
@@galahad6334 Nice comparison - I agree.
In the mid 1960s my chums and I would go to Chiswick to watch the pre-war RTs which were out on learner duties.
Used to travel to school on them
I remember those old rt' s as a kid the most beautiful buses ever timber floor treads and window lining works of art in my opinion.
Love to see a SOUTH DOWN bus, my Granddad was a driver back in the 1955/60
The look, the colour, the sound, its still all there in my memory, the string for the bell, the cubby for a piece of luggage, the amount of times to go top deck, ladies first of course. Great video, thanks.
Barry. Devon
I used to be a conductor on one of these from Catford (TL) bus garage for many years. Great old buses! Great old conductors!
I miss them.......My 73 bus from Tottenham Court, Road to Stoke Newington 😃
Ah, the sound of London I remember. I must be getting old!
This the sound I remember too arriving in London the first time from Hong Kong in 1948 !
Brings back many happy memories driving RT's out of Merton Garage (AL) in the 70's. Didn,t get to drive RTW,s or RTL's most had been retired by then.
THEY SHOULD KEEP A SMALL FEW OF THESE MAGNIFICENT BUSES IN SERVICE TO REMIND EVERYONE
OF THE DAYS GONE PAST WHAT BUS TRAVEL WAS LIKE ' THESE BUSES HAD STYLE. 🌟🌟🌟
NOVEMBER 2016 ⌚⌚⌚
I MISS THE CONDUCTOR'S '' HOLD TIGHT NOW ''
ANYMORE FARE'S. DING DING
Lovely buses. I want drive one of this.
One of these double deckers in red was used for cliff richards film summer holidays
Love those green rt shots mmm happy boyhood memories in Surrey and western Kent.. bring back updated state of the art green line network
. 🚒
I’m old enough to remember catching these to school
I must be getting slow in my old age (!) but was wondering at first why even green, Country Area and Green Line RT's were carrying route 22 blinds! Wonderful video! Great sounds!
What a difference ,rear wheel discs make to their appearance, something you rarely get on modern buses.
We had the green RT’s in many of the Country area Garages as well. Great vehicles.
I read that,if you did a shift on an RTW on the 11 route to Liverpool Street,
it was really hard work .
Running on route 6 to Dentons Green, I rode on this bus many times going to and from West Park Grammar . It was also on the 15/16 Eccleston/Parr circular and on the 22, Happy Memories
These were buses with character, unlike today's impersonal objects on the road.
Delroy Roberts You can say that again. Buses back then where way better in sound than today's soulless buses will ever be
I love the no. 11 type.Early rt?
They should bring these buses back in service. They were genuine.

Thanks for posting im looking forwards to the next one.....Ian.
this would have been a bus spotters paradise with these old lovelies on the road
As someone said of Bedford OB's, "more of them preserved than were built".
Good to see a Cravens-bodied RT on the road - quite different from the 'standard'!
lovely vid, but shame we never got a rear view of an RTW, with its ads pasted round the corner and making it look even wider (we nearly did at 8.33 and 10.28)
Extended Bodies for Most of the Buses
Much as I am not comfortable to ask the depot why they stopped running the London Suburban Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW’s on routes N26, 30, 121, 230, 271, 349, N279 And 158 why can’t we make the same make of the Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW Buses but Modernise the insides of these Buses. When l was a nipper very many years ago no one wore a hi viz jacket, we could all see each other without them....................even in thick fog in London.
what a pity I didn't know about this. I would have loved to have been there
I'm just wondering if those RTs and RTLs have the original engines because they had that 'growl' as I remember ,certainly the Leylands did. They did not sound the same when I heard them recently
WE WILL MAKE LONDON BUS GREAT AGAIN
I worked on these in the 60s Grays and Romford Green line services.
D67 was one of the St.Helens replacement for the 6 trolley route. Does anyone remember the RT that had the accident hitting the bridge in Southport and being rebuilt with an East Lancs top?
I got my PSV in an RT in 1973 then RM- DMS- SMS routes 12-12a -194-194b - 54 out of Elmers End shed the RT was a drivers Bus, RM was OK the rest were glorified milk floats.
As I am not comfortable asking the depot why they stopped running the London Suburban Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW on routes 30, 121, 230, 271, 349, N279 And 158 why can’t we make the same make of the Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW Buses but Modernise the insides of these Buses. Also, make it low floor up and down and extend the middle body part of these vehicles a little bit more so there will be more space for the wheelchair users. By the way, if you could remake and Modernise these vehicles could they also make them into a Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW Version if it is possible to Modernise the insides of these Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW’s make it low floor up and down and also extend the middle body part of these vehicles a little bit more so there will be more space and even a London Suburban 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Scania N230UD Enviro 400 MMCs and 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX Diesel engine Enviro 400 MMC’s and also extend the middle the body part of these vehicles a little bit more. Why couldn’t we have those London Suburban Buse's Pale red on the top roof Pale red again on the top middle Milk Chocolate brown in the middle Creamy white on the Bottom Middle and Milk Chocolate Brown on the Bottom on most of those kinds of those Particular Double Decker Vehicles? Could you put the Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox in the Scania N230UD Enviro 400 MMCs and also put the Loud 3-Speed Voith Diwa Gearbox in the Volvo TD102KF Engine East Lancs Olympus and also extend the middle body part of these vehicles a little bit more and also turn most of them to London Suburban Buses. By the way, could you also make routes 349, 121, N279 and 271 into London Suburban Buses and have a mixture of a Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Scania N230UD Enviro 400 MMC and Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW Versions. Could they also transfer the Arriva Bus Depots from Hackney to Stagecoach company so they can replace all the Arriva buses so that all of them can go to Birmingham and Leeds? They can be replaced by Stagecoach Loud 3-Speed Voith Diwa Gearbox Volvo TD102KF Engine East Lancs Olympus and also Extend the Middle body part of these Vehicles and that includes A Mixture of a Stagecoach Loud 3-Speed Voith Diwa Gearbox Volvo TD102KF, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 6LXCT Engine Northern Counties Palatine One and that Includes a Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX Diesel engine Enviro 400 MMC’s and Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Scania N230UD Enviro 400 MMC Vehicles A Little Bit More? Can Arriva London Bus Company Replace Most of their Wight Buses so they can also transfer them to Birmingham and Also Manchester so they can be replaced by Loud 3-Speed ZF Ecomat Gearboxes Volvo D10A Engine East Lancs Olympus and also Extend the Middle body part of these Vehicles A Little Bit More Thank You Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Much? Oh by the way could the bus Factory Companies also Make More of Those Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel engine Olympian ECW Vehicles And that also includes Those Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Cummins L10 Enviro 400 MMC And also Extend the The middle Body part of those Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW Vehicles and the Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Cummins L10 Enviro 400 MMC Vehicles and that also includes The Loud 3-Speed ZF Ecomat Gearboxes Volvo D10A Engine East Lancs Olympus A Little Bit More And Paint Those 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Cummins L10 Enviro 400 MMC Vehicles and also those Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel engine Olympian ECW Vehicles and that also includes The Northern Counties Palatine One with a Volvo TD102KF, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 6LXCT Diesel engines with a Loud 3-Speed Voith Diwa Gearboxes and The Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Scania N230UD Enviro 400 MMC Vehicles and also The Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX Diesel engine Enviro 400 MMC Vehicles to the Grey Green Colours Just Like The Other Original Scania Grey Green on the Bus Route 125, 173, 313 and 103. If all of the 14 Leyland Titan B15s are Fully Red and even Mostly Red, could they also Repaint All of Those 14 Leyland Titan B15s into Grey Green Colours Just Like The Other Original Scania Grey Green on Bus Route 313 so they can Reuse them for Only Every Seven and a Half Months and also Reuse them on those Rail Replacement London Bus Routes if that will Be Alright for Only Just Every Seven and a Half Months, starting from the beginning of October and also Reuse Those Buses Only on the London Bus Routes which are The 341, N41, 34, 123, N29, 149, 221, N73, 121, 86, 30, 262, 147, 396, 41, 56, and N26 so Please make sure that the builders can do as they are told!!!! And please do something about these Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Important Professional Ideas Pretty Please? Prime Minister and also includes the Mayor of London.
Number 65 from Ham to Ealing taking me to school in the mid 1950s , always on time unfortunately .
I came from ham and I also used the 71and 65 to go work in Richmond
The Classic RT are the most popular classic toys in Hong Kong too.
No better bus I met someone who used to work for AEC at Acton nice conversation about bus repair and construction pity we don't make our own anymore.....ian.
Muito bom a preservação destas unidades. Com as cores e publicidades originais.
Love the RT.........
What's with the 22 ?
Son terrible antigua se parecena las micro quetra trabaja la pelicula de la momia saludos de chile
A good video, but many of the buses show incorrect blinds that don’t match the route numbers. Example route 22 never went to Hackney Wick, neither did it go to Victoria.
the classic noise of the bus miss it
Anybody know where ST 821 ,is now?
Hermosos buses de Londres.
Lovely to see the country RLH (Low bridge version of an RT)
A pity it was only the one shot taken. Can remember banging my head many times when getting out of my seat on the School bus service ( the only one on normal RF route, but had to take a detour to avoid a 10' 6" bridge).
These are post 1950 models.About the time when I was in boarding school arriving from Hong Kong. Really ! It is that long ago.
Greetings from Germany from Aleksandar, Is it for sale? Or do you know where I could buy such a bus?
Do all of those old buses shown at the start still exist in such great condition? If so, make them a "protected species"! They are full of character: the upholstery, the backend entrance, the little light bulbs, the conductor, the great sound of the engine, etc. Today's buses are just soulless tin boxes. I'm licensed to drive buses, & I'd jump at the chance to drive one of these! 🚌
My Dad drove RTs out of Merton garage and I drove RMs 😎
Looking back at them, the Craven body really was odd wasn't it?
BUS ENTHUSIASTS,, I was lucky enough to have a job many could only dream of,, before Thatchers distructfull acts that destroyed decent bus company's,, I worked for one I am proud to have worked for the real
,,BartoN Transport Ltd,, Chilwell Nottingham,,
From 1962 until 1988 I started as a 16 none apprentice, in the engine shop but done many none related jobs tarmac laying furniture removels (we had a lorry fleet) painting property, and the oil engineer and the clutch engineer (until most were auto) then on to breakdown / recovery local / long distance, also part time driver service and private hire and emergency driver when required (not compulsory) but we were always willing to, the wages were good as was the bosses and I could use all the equipment to work on my cars when not on duty,,
I have many souvenirs and still have my uniform and overcoat,, P S, we ran some London Leyland RTs,,,
HELP PLEASE! I need a Answer for this Question! What Buses do you take from Kings Cross to get to London Bus Museum?
So Basicly How many buses do you have to take?
What Routes are they?
Please Reply It would be a massive help I mean it :)
How many RT Regents survive in preservation?
Just think if we have buses like these what would Khan the London mayor would do
I have an honest question: Why do they all burn oil? Is it a characteristic of these engines? Or are they all worn out?
This but with the Self Preservation Society song in the background.
Good old London❗☝️🙂👌👏🚍🚍🚍
Oh how I miss the route 19 on Battersea bridge. I not sure why some disliked this video.
Don't matter cant please everyone its my first bus video unknown territory for me , it helps if people don't like something as much as we like seeing likes it makes us try harder next time thanks anyway....ian
Thanks, I enjoyed that vid. And with no musak too ;-) Perhaps you could tell me why so many of the busses where showing route 22 ?
super vidéo
43 dislikes - some people just don’t understand our history or heritage 😳
Sadly there are people in this world just hate for the sake of hating
Why couldn't they retrofit the engines of the old Routemasters. The new Routemaster looks hideous IMO. Those who say they couldn't retro fit the old Routemaster with newer less polluting Engines are so wrong. If people can send a man to the moon in the 60s. Retrofitting a new Engine in a bus in this era should be Childs play for Engineers. Bring back the Old Routemaster to London I say. These Buses are what made London.

Nice these give me nogolstia
Hanoc, the government does not own them. Most are privately owned and preserved. Also most date from the 1950s, so they are over 60 years old.
Built to last I figure. They saw a a lot of use I reckon so preserving them should be a fairly easy task given their rugged design.
THIS WAS WHEN BUSES WERE BUSES....NOTHING MORE TO SAY
Matt Monro was driving one of these buses before he became very famous.
I though I was the only one who remembered him my mum had a soft spot for him ...Thanks for viewing...ian
limehouse11 I have almost 100 Matt Monro hits. He was my most favorite singer of all time from my growing up years in Hong Kong from the mid 1960s to moment before he passed away in 1984.
Bring back the trams, cleaner.
Nice London bus
the bus I wants is a Roadmaster & make it look like Bulgy
Nice video, I was a driver at Catford garage TL from 1967 to 1972. Learned on an RTW. Enjoyed my time there, Routes 47 75 94 and 124. Then Routemasters came and in some ways just as enjoyable as RTs. Paul Davis Isle of Man.
These old busses were London............
