    I think people make the mistake that this is on top dead center firing on piston number 1 when it is dot-to-dot when you go to stab your distributor. Without checking your valves closed on top dead center it will be 180 out if I'm not mistaken

      Just point the rotor at #6 no need to do all that turning over finding TDC mess. If the dizzy don't drop down just back the crank up 30° point the rotor at 6 and when it turns over and falls down it will be right on the money.

    I’ve been trying to find a video of someone tapping the oil galley plugs on an 880 block with the machined surface. Are the two outer plugs 3/8? And the middle one the standard 1/4? Would be a cool video to make since there’s nothing out there. Keep up the great videos!

      YES, the Vortec block had larger oil passages on each side (lifter galleries) and a standard size 1/4 pipe in the center just tap the two side passages with a 3/8 pipe tap and your in business that's what was done to the block in the video

    • @Myvintageiron7512
      @Myvintageiron7512  Год назад

      I guess I just didn't realize how much misunderstanding there was on this when,
      the marks are dot to dot this position is TDC on the number one piston but it is not on the power stroke, it is on the exhaust stroke,
      and the valves are in overlap,
      the cylinder does not fire there, it's companion cylinder # 6 will be TDC power stroke all you need to do to get # 1 on TDC power is rotate the crankshaft 1 complete rotation this will cause the camshaft to rotate 1/2 turn, the cam and crank are 2 to 1 the cam gear is twice the size of the crank gear and it rotates half the speed of the crank, so 1 full rotation of the crank is 1/2 turn of the cam when the marks are at 12 and 12 the number 1 piston is at TDC power and number 6 is in overlap, I am just now figuring out that there are some people posting on here that don't understand that setting the marks dot to dot is the same as 12 and 12 just 1 rotation off for # 1 I got into a discussion with a guy that insisted the chain has to be installed with the marks at 12 and 12 he clearly did not get that it's the same thing just much easier to make sure the marks are lined up for installation purposes

    • @44special9
      @44special9 Год назад

      @@eddiesalinas8458 If that's the case then I don't think anything has changed because this old school 350 is the same . Piston 1 (drivers side front) and piston 6 (passenger side third from front ) travel up and down together . When this is DOT-TO-DOT the piston 1 is TDC exhaust stroke and piston 6 is TDC compression . They seem the same to me , if they're different let me know . If it's DOT-TO-DOT and you're getting ready to drop a distributor in then the crank is turned one revolution which puts piston 1 at TDC compression .

    I wish someone made a video on the GM strait 4 cylinder. I dont think the gm 4 cylinder in my hyster forklif is one of the 4 cylibder Gm made out of the gm 8 cylinder 283. By cutting it in half as i seen a number of Forums i have read. My head an spark plug holes are not slanted. There strait up an down. I be beleave i have a timeing problem. I have yet to take it a part i had to order a balancer puller. I asked on amazon were to find parts timeing chain an gears. An crank seal and cover gasget. One guy answered saying there 2 gears one on the crank an one on the cam. No chain at all. He could be right as every time i look an the timeing cover i ask my self, how it it posible to fit 2 timing gears an a chain under this very small an short timeing cover. Then i ask my self. If this guy is right an only has 2 gears no chain. How is it even posible that it could jump?. Then i thought. Well maybe they are plastic. They stripped, broken teeth? But the distributor roter turns steady no miss or stop points.. i had a hell of a time just to find a distrubutor cap, coil, and rotor. No parts dealer has a listing for a gm 4 cylinder. I called the gm dealer an was told they dont suport the gm 4 cylinder. The only way i was able to get these parts. Fat guy auto asked me for a number in side the cap. I gave it to him an he found what i needed. But no one can find listing for timeing gears / chain, crank seal and cover gasket.. i find it hard to be leave that a timeing gear jumped on a engeine with just over 4000 hours on the hour meter. I at a loss an nothing on you tube. I was thinking i do one it i can locat the parts. I done many on gm 350 an ford 351. Freind of mine told me it looks like gm iron horse. But no listings all listind start at 6 cylinder on 7 parts shops.
