Making a Heating Element on the Lathe ( Spring )

Forming a Kanthal heating element on the lathe using the screw cutting feed. We used a piece of nylon with a hole through it in the tool post to guide the wire. You could also make springs like this to any pitch you needed.
The small gaps you see between some windings is due to deformities in the wire, if I was making a lot of these I would make a set of straightening rolls to run the wire through before the nylon guide.
