It was the sectarian of the tribes that was always at the heart of treacherous killing each other. The British having to deal with dishonorable banditry and the hate filled politics that was always part of the region. The reprobate charlatans that made up the Congress movement were always shameful narcissistic types bound on personality cult politics to be suited in blood. Churchill predicted and was right.
Just look at Ghandi's sneaky smiling joy for a war and territory. She fitted the pattern although in a more we "don"t have to pay loans back" and castration complex male emasculating and caste complex. All the fun of cult personality politics.

Indira Gandhi was shrewd, strong and played her cards well. She anticipated the war, signed a peace treaty with Soviet Union to keep the Western powers at bay at the right moment and created a new country called Bangladesh, which ceased to be a threat on the Eastern Front-East Pakistan. President Nixon sent Seventh Fleet into the Bay of Bengal, but got nixed by Soviet naval rush and the Soviet Veto against US sponsored resolution to attack India.
