  • I want to raise awareness of the effects the copper IUD can have on the body and mental health. After reading what other girls are going though because of this evil thing, i wanted to share my story and my recovery in hope that it helps other ladies who think they are going crazy. YOU ARE NOT GOING CRAZY, it is your coil poisoning you!! I hope you enjoy my video, I'm a bit all over the place as I have never done this before hahaha :) please comment your symptoms/recovery. Thanks for watching. Good luck!

Thank you so much for making this video. I've only had the copper IUD in for about a month and 1 week and I have all of your symptoms plus more. The insertion pain was 9/10 for me. It hurt way worse than times when I've broken bones. Apparently the copper IUD is one of the largest IUDs and can be much more painful for people who have never given birth before. I have no children and I got the IUD inserted while I was ovulating (they recommend you do it while menstruating). They didn't offer me any pain relievers before my procedure and did not use any sort of numbing solution or local anesthesia.
For the rest of the day (after insertion) I stayed in bed with a heating pad crying from all the pain. None of the pain relievers I had worked at all and my uterus felt like someone was drilling screws into it. This lasted for about 14 hours. About 2 days later I had a massive blood clot (3 inches by 1 inch) that appeared to be endometrial lining that was scraped out from the IUD. I called my doctor and they didn't even recommend that I come in to get checked out.
The next 2 weeks I had mild to severe pain and bleeding everyday. I then got my period which was absolutely paralyzing. I couldn't sleep and stayed up all night sobbing from the pain. The only thing that slightly helped me was CBD.
After my period ended -which was about 7 days but heavy and painful- all of the pain went away. I also had stopped spotting. I thought I was in the clear and that everything was going to be okay. I felt good for about 1-2 weeks and then I started ovulating. I always have ovulation cramps but this was extremely painful. These cramps felt a lot like period cramps. I couldn't sleep or eat and I would see black spots when the pain was really bad. The cramping is still continuing today (nearly 2 weeks post ovulation) and I've been bleeding again. My period is coming soon and I am definitely getting this IUD out before it comes. There's no way I could bear to deal with the pain I endured last time.
    the symptoms I experienced were:
    -extreme bloating (looking pregnant)
-stomach tenderness and pain when touched
    -cramping and bleeding nearly everyday
    -an even heavier period
    -heart palpitations
-head pressure (not a headache, but it felt like someone was squeezing the sides of my head)
    -IBS symptoms
    -headaches
    -lightheadedness
    -brain fog
    -anxiety
    -extreme fatigue
-weight gain from not being able to work out
    -nausea
    -pelvic pain
    -pain during intimacy
    -mood swings (depression)
-negative body image (mostly from the bloating)
    -anemia
and I'm sure there are others, but these were most prevalent.
I am getting the coil out in the next few days and I honestly can't wait. I've been taking zinc and iron to try and counteract some of my symptoms, but I'm sure I'll be back to myself once I get this thing out. Again, thank you so much for sharing your experience! I'm definitely going to start sharing mine on forums and things like that to help other women out.

Thank you for sharing your story. I have been experiencing all of these same symptoms and just recently realized it has to be the IUD. I wake up every morning with a terrible headache and have not been myself for months. When you mentioned the coffee I was like wow, I have been drinking two cups of a coffee a day and prior to getting the IUD I rarely ever drank coffee. I can't wait to get my IUD removed!!

I am.dealing with the same exact thing thanks vf to paragard and I am a registered nurse the reason its taking months for your anxiety to level out is because cooper toxcity actually does effect your hormones it can raise estrogen quite a bit and it can through all of it off best thing you can do is watch your diet maybe do a detox with ginger root and dandelion root and lots of water and your right about the zinc it will help your body to rid itself of the cooper I ll keep u in my prayers and just keep listening to your body no matter what the dr says and keep pushing forward thank u for raising awareness 😍

Yes, I was lucky to find drs in LA that had seen it before and knew about copper toxicity/ mineral balancing when it happened and I removed it. I’ve been fully healed for almost three years. It was still the the most horrible experience, and I’m so sad to see the numbers of women effected rise. Hopefully soon women will get the informed consent they deserve. Makes me so mad. Best to you!

100% agree and have been dealing with the same problems. One thing I would add and I did is look into doing a functional medicine heavy metal detox to help your body regulate faster also a functional medicine liver detox would help as well! Good luck and thank you for sharing!

This is so similar to my story as well. I had mine 3 and half years before the really bad symptoms started suddenly at around the same time. I had annoying things right away like bleeding that lasted 1.5 years straight, a gradual yellowing of my skin that I didn't notice until I had to buy new foundation after a make up break of a few years. I used to have to buy a foundation with pink undertones and when I started wearing makeup again i had to buy foundation with more yellow undertones. I also started drinking more alcohol to deal with chronic pain and when my eyes yellowed and my liver swelled, I attributed it to only the drinking and quit. My liver has still flared through the last couple years on and off, but I never got it checked cuz I figured it was just healing from the drinking. Meanwhile, my chronic nerve pain from an at the time still undxd spinal defect got progressively worse to where I was at a level 9 or 10 on the pain scale daily by the time I went to bed. I started getting exhausted all the time, but just towards the end of the day at first, was still able to get up as soon as my alarm went off at that point. I hadn't realized until I was looking back, but the anxiety really started to slowly build as soon as the iud was in but reached the point of panic attacks last summer. Of course, this was attributed to the isolation because of covid. As the anxiety kept getting worse, the cycles of racing thoughts and depression kept progressively getting worse as well. Concentration issues, memory issues, brain fog, was terrified of messing up at my new job every single time I clocked in. I just felt like I couldn't remember what to do anymore. And I've always been that one that goes above and beyond, but I couldn't even function at a basic level anymore. September I started getting what I thought was food posioning and couldn't stay out of there bathroom so I called in. After a week off having to call in, I went to urgent care for the pain and diarrhea. No food poisoning source found in testing, ended up in er from the pain the following week. Ct found colitis and I was referred to a gi who scheduled a colonoscopy. Other than a 4mm polyp they removed, nothing serious was found to my knowledge. Ct at the er also finally got my spinal defect dx, and found a cyst on my left ovary (which I would get ovarian pains during ovulation a lot) turned out to be functional cysts on ultrasound. Which reminds me I also would get bad cysts on my face and body after my period and kept getting either yeast infections or bv infections after every period from about mid 2020 on. From storyteller I kept calling in everyday due to the anxiety of not being able to mentally function and the gi issues and 6 weeks later when I couldn't provide a turkey to work date, I was let go. I had been researching anytime I wasn't too tired to, trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with me. I had stated physical therapy for the Sunday defect, but got too tired and too socially anxious to finish. I also kept having flu like symptoms and went to make sure it wasn't covid 5 times. All negative. There's so much more but I'm already writing a book here. I eventuality found copper toxicity somehow and the symptoms matched and even though they say it can't be the iud, I scheduled removal for the first available appt at my Dr, which was 2 weeks away. That was the worst two weeks of my life as I had already gotten to the point I was almost completely bedridden, heart palpitations and feeling like it was pounding out of my chest, dizzy spells almost daily, feeling like I couldn't even get from my room to the bathroom (not far away) without nearly fainting, sometimes being so weak I didn't know if I'd wake up in the morning. I was too scared to go to the hospital again sand be told again everything is fine and be officially labeled a hypochondriac which they already treat me like. I did end up going in for liver pain the day before removal and of course all the standards treats came back fine. Er dr was actually understanding and admitted he had to look up copper toxicity before he came in the room and agreed with my plan to test my hypothesis by removing and seeing if it helped.
I'm two weeks post removal today and the first week was ok, immediately I felt the pressure in my pelvis get better and had enough energy that day to catch up on a lot of laundry at the laundromat. It took a lot out of me and I had to keep taking rest breaks cuz my heart still kept going crazy. Day after I got a thrush infection that eventually cleared. Other than the rash and some tiredness, overall I had more energy that first week. On day 9i got a bad migraine and felt so horrible and noticed the tremors that had stopped after removal came back with a vengeance. Sunday was okay, was able to get some things done with housework. Monday through today I've been back to being bedridden levels of exhaustion. The social anxiety is back again and I just don't want to do anything but rest, even though I have trouble sleeping. Pretty much all the symptoms are back, but they aren't quite as bad overall, except the exhaustion. I do keep getting little spurts of energy here and there, enough to feed myself, but not much energy for anything else. Some days I wonder if it will ever end, but from the stories I've read, it gets better so I hold onto that hope. The depression hasn't had the suicidal ideation since removal so far, which was getting worse and worse before removal. I hope it continues getting better and will hopefully stop being too shy to make a video to post telling my whole story. There's a lot more to it than this, but it's already long enough now. If you've read this far, thank you for reading my story.

Hey! I'm sorry you went though all this! It really upsets me people are suffering this bad. I started to notice a big change after about 4 months of removal, but to be honest my mental health has been a on going process till recently, I haven't been really bad but the coil brought on some weird phobias I forgot to Mention here and it's taken time to get over them. Taking magnesium helped me alot and I have been meditating and it's the best thing I have done for my mental Health. There are lots of guided meditations on your tube they really help calm your mind. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Stay healthy, Exercise and be kind to yourself. Much love xxxx

Wow. Yes to all of this. I just put mine in 6 weeks ago, and I literally broke up with my boyfriend last week. I was a happy gal in that relationship, and almost overnight, he could do nothing right and I was so irritable and angry. Started exercising and eating better, cannot lose weight, gained 4 lbs.
They say it gets better, but have a history of depression, which I have managed for a decade, with natural herbs, with great results. With this IUD, I have been completely thrown back to my "dark years". So the person I basically got the IUD for, is gone, so there isnt much reason to keep it. It really has messed badly with me, and I am heartbroken. Its only been 6 weeks, and I dont know if I need to simply practice better self care to manage this, or to simply take it out and be celibate forever because I cant do anything hormonal (been there, did that, no bueno).
Thank you for your story. Takes a lot of digging but now I know Im not crazy. God bless you.
