Hey, someone else who lives in Ajjijic! 😀 I'm in USA right now, but I'll return back home soon! I'm glad to know that Ajjijic and Chapala are at least known!
Jerry, Just subscribed...but have been watching you for some time, now. I'm not surprised your viewers number went up after being associated with other RUclips channels; I always check out new people when I hear about them from my favorite channels. Heard about Lake Chapala about 25 years ago while living in Seattle and considered it for my retirement, but life went another direction. I'd still like to give it a try. I'm in Mobile, AL, now, retired (again) a year ago from my hospital job, but quite settled here with one daughter in town, another in CA. Enjoy seeing you and Lynn and hearing your stories. Please keep the videos coming. A new fan!
I have heard you talk about South Dakota several times, and just now, I hear you say you are from there. I am too. I was born in Pierre but lived in Highmore. I visit Randy on his channel whenever I can.
Senior JC,. Your channel is the best in the west Lol 😂. I think it's so cool how you and your wife travel back to the US ....You two are simply Amazing 😍 People..... Central California
I don't know how I missed all the RV video's you speak of. I guess I'm one of the few who was drawn into your channel by the "living in Mexico" theme and intrigued by the comments of a climate which draws both snowbirds and sun birds.I will look for those. In my younger years, I customized 2 vans into campers. I didn't do many long haul camping trips but did go on weekend and overnight trips. Some were just crashing in the van behind whatever bar I happened to be at. Both vans had built in beds but no bathroom facilities. It's hard to talk girlfriends into camping for long periods of time with that limitation!
I customized my first van in 1972. Black with gold metalic. Couch/bed. Captains chairs. Red velvet walpaper and faux grey wolf fur on the walls. Bay windows. Made it the BatVan later with a BatMan on the rear spare tire cover. It was used to deliver the cast, Chubaca, Princess Lea, 3 CPO, etc to the movie opening of The Empire Strikes Back in Beaverton, Or. Darth Vader arrived by helicopter. Fun times. It might be in the intro of one of my old videos. :)
@@JCTravelStories I guess mine weren't as famous as your's.My 1st was a 1971 Ford which I painted metal-flake green. I used shag carpet on the floor and roof, paneling with a bench and cabinet behind the driver seat.My 1979 Chevy I bought new with custom factory metal flake blue paint. Kind of did the same layout inside only much higher quality. 1 1/4" oak over head console with built in stereo/tape player and a silver plate which I made from a serving tray to mount all the custom switch's for lighting, fans, etc. I loved that truck! Many great memories.I put the spare under the bed in both which went across the back from side to side. Had to cut special foam to fit and act as the mattress in both.
Omg So you two camp also. We do too but we are stationary in a campground called Westward Shores in New Hampshire. Like I stated on your other vids I’m ready to sell everything and start traveling. My only problem is my trying to talk my hubby into going west. I lived in S. Ca before I married and love the weather( who wouldn’t) but could never afford to live there. I may just go west myself to start the ball rolling. Anyway seems like we watch the same RUclips channels and quite a few woman are traveling solo. Anyway just to check it all out. Well good luck with your channel. I’ll continue to watch.
Tell him RVing in the west is not the same as living in expensive California. If you can boon dock is cheap living out west. You know this if you watch the van dwelling RUclipsrs. :)
yup, will be going south as planned..bugs, fire ants be damned ! .. i really enjoy all your videos , pleasant voice, pleasant face, great presentation...like spending time with an old friend... feel like nothings over the top, just plain, well spoken realities. thank-you
Hi jerry well the day is finally come I will be arriving in ajijic on July 5th and was hoping for your opinion... based on your videos. I think ajijic is the place for me (walking distance to everything) as I won't have a vehicle until my scooters are shipped... and I love the quiet country so is there a particular part of ajijic you would recommend? Thank you so much for your wonderful videos and I'm hoping to run into you when I'm out and about in town...
Please let me say this to you from an old IRISH MAN OF 82 ,I have traveled from one way east to west on my Thumb and What you NEED IS MORE of you and less of thy rest , just keep on with your keeping on,!!!!!! and let it go Roy Mc Graw
Roy Mc Graw ... Well, Roy, I always appreciate getting advice from those who have been there and done it. Thanks. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to let go of ... Perhaps I already have.
As you taken thy time to answer ,Joe in my time back in 96 0rv about i set 6/10 world Records with a Fly rod retired at 50 from thy R/R in Michigan and Like you got advice from everyone on what, why how and when ,now i,m in Alaska, and can in 2005 i,ll be in Mexico in two month and if i had know you all my life i would say thy same it you feel it need do it ,Put thy wide in your face Joe ,Roy Mc Graw, from thy top of thy World ALASKA COMING YOUR WAY SOON
Jerry I miss you and Lynn. can't wait to see you again. Randy and I hope to see you in SD this summer. Can't wait to see you and my crazy husband build stuff again. Love from The Mobile Traveler, his wife and Ace
I enjoy your videos keep them coming! You’re down to earth and honest. It’s always good to see things through other people eyes. I’m at retirement age and had retired in the past, but lasted 8 months and got bored. I went back to work. I don’t know if my wife would move down there full time and live. Living in California is terrible with the high cost of living; a lot of folks are moving out to other cheaper states. We’re thinking of visiting Texas and looking there for a cheaper and slower pace. I’m tired of the politics here in CA.
Love the information on Ajijic, a question that I have is, will you be staying longer in Mexico when you are way older(lol)? I am your and Lynne's ages. Been married for the same amount of years. We did the test period too. We are snowbirds in yuma since 2000
We've lived in Mexico for 18 years. Only the last 3 have we spent any significant time out of Mexico and tha't not about Mexico .... its about driving a 40' motor home while I still can. Yes, when its time to hang up the RV keys, Mexico is home.
Thanks for all your videos have watched them all started about 3 weeks ago, when I found your channel. You are so right about the news painting a very different picture of Mexico
I enjoy watching the same people and they do seem like nice people despite the trolls that hound them with all kinds of whacked out stories and criticisms. I ignore the trolls. I'll still be around and hope to hear more about living in Mexico.
I love your depiction of day to day life in Ajijic. I just discovered your channel and subscribed! I was inspired by Jerry Brown to start my own RUclips channel on transitioning from working life to retirement in Mexico. I hope to retire in San Pancho Mexico in a few years, for now I try to get there every chance I have! I only have a handful of views and subscribers on my channel, Skip the Culture Shock. Your story and your persistence with your channel have inspired me to keep working on it and not give up! Thank you!
Skip the Culture Shock ... Good luck with your channel! We all bring different experiences, different goals, and unique perspectives on moving to a new place and transitioning to a retired life. I look forward to your sharing of yours.
this man looks so much like my father.........maybe it's true that in the world there are 7 faces that are the same.........with the exception , that my father was Mexican........but wow.......
roberto ... I try to answer all my comments with with something that adds value to the conversation. This one has me amused, but drawing a blank for a reply. The term is doppleganger for a look alike. So glad your father was Mexican, just so there are no questions. LOL!
I’ll be down in Ajijic from July 14-19. My wife and I would love to meet you and talk retirement in Mexico over tacos. Let me know if you’re interested. Thanks!
I spend probably too much time watching RUclips videos. Mostly videos from people who live and/or travel in Mexico and other videos in Spanish or about Spanish. I would be more interested in your videos about your life in Mexico rather than your RV videos. So I have decided to subscribe to your channel
+Clarence Hammer ... Thanks for subscribing Clarence! I’ll be returning to my motorhome in September, but that does not mean I will forget how to talk about and answer questions about living in Mexico.
I can't see why the people that joined your channel would not still watch your channel. Most I would think that watch them are living in homes and getting a fix of the great outdoors RV life. I think if it is interesting enough they will still watch. I think your channel has a nice mixture of content and much of it is educational and interesting. I just bet walking around talking to us in your garden will do wonders for the many stuck indoors trying to get a substitute fix for themselves, whether it be RV life or gardening. Myself I started out watching you on other channels and thought it would be nice to watch a couple and not much older then myself. Well maybe you two got 5 years on me what they heck. I will still enjoy your channel. I like your content.
Jude W ... A glitch in youtube ... I tried replying to your comment on food prices in the next video and it would not post and then your comment was gone. Anyway, I cut and pasted it here ... If those are Canadian dollars, then milk here is half the price of yours. Steak more equal. I went back and listened to the birds in the video. The loudest mouthed bird was a kiskadee. They're very aggressive and teritorial. They take a bath in the pool everyday at 4:30 pm. So many bird sounds are a constant thing here. A woodpecker ... flicker ... Is my personal alarm clock. My favorites are the painted bunting and the vermillion fly catcher. Hummingbirds make nests out of spider webs and have black babies not much bigger than our leaf cutter ants.
JC, Yes the prices were in Canadian dollars. See I always say in the USA much is cheaper then here but the wages are far less for the same jobs. So it balances and works out to be the same in cost of living depending where you like to shop and how you like to spend your money. I love thrift shops first and always. If I can't find it there then I buy next cheapest place like Walmart. I only shop in malls or online for sales when I need a gfit for someone and buy it brand new not second hand. I've been thrift like that most all of my life. You are lucky to have such a nice garden with the nectar to attract the a variety of lovely birds. The Kiskadee sounded like it was talking up a storm, no singing. Wow Humming birds making nests out of spider webs, that makes sense for the size yes. See that is another reason why I love to watch your channel very educational in many aspects! I have had comments back come in, so it might have been me doing edits perhaps why you could not respond on the newest post. Thanks for your effort you took to answer my post!!
Jude W ... You're correct about wages and prices equalling out. I'm lucky to have income in USD and out go in pesos most of the time. When we go to the States, we get sticker shock.
I bet you do. It would be like us Canadians/USA currency exchange shopping. So you're very lucky to be able to have that USA income. The meat prices you showed on camera was rediculously high priced.
I bought it some years ago and did a lot of remodeling. What i paid wouldn't mean anything today. Google this Mag for pics and prices locally ... Points South Chapala Edition. :)
why dont you discuss the near by active valcano!! what are your plans. if that goes huge? spreads? how gona get water assuming that ash and hot lava rocks dont come your way? please answer. !!
I've found your videos to be very enjoyable. I don't know why you don't have more subscribers because I think you should. I'm looking forward to seeing many more vids. I'd love to see what life is like in Mexico. Keep up the good work! 🌵🌵🌵
Leah Olszowy ... Yes, Leah. Years ago when we were living in Ajijic for 6 months per year, our Oregon BlueCross policy covered us here. We paid out of pocket and were repaid by the insurance company. So first check with your current insurer. Google health insurance Ajijic ... You'll find several companies that offer international coverage. We have IMSS ... Mexican government health care, and also some emergency coverage from a Medicare supplement policy. Medicare itself does not pay outside of the USA. Also, the Mexican constitution guarantees health care for every person ( citizen or not) who is physically in the country. Government hospitals may charge according to your ability to pay. That system is known as Seguro Popular. Lastly, many of us are self insured for routine things. Locally, a urine test is $8 USD. An office visit is $15 to $20 USD. My last colonoscopy was $4000 pesos ... Current exchange rate ... $204 USD. Prices do go up, and exchange rates cycle up and down, so if you're reading this years after I wrote it .... Your costs may be higher.
Good video. I am subscribed to many people as you. I am 58 and unsure if we should go rving or Mexico. Show us around your town and area. Keep up the good work!!!
I will show you around. Thanks for asking. RVing in Mexico???? We had our old southwind in Mexico for 7 years and found that it was much more cost effective to travel in a car and stay in hotels. Many snowbirds winter on the beaches of Mexico in RVs, but the cost of a park with full hookups is nearly as much as an OK hotel room ... not in resorts like Puerto Vallarta, but in smaller Mexican beaches, not international tourist areas. RVing to Mexico for the winter ... OK. A week close to the border in Puerto Penasco, or San Carlos ... fine. ..For a week or two farther into the country ... stay in a hotel. {Free Opinion}
Hi Jerry and Lynn, What do you mean I have an accent? Anyways a great video, I will watch your videos because you are just a funny fellow. You know my family and friends have not subscribed to my channel either, and I have asked them to if they want to know where I am. Obviously they don't want to know.
I had to look up what CAD is ... cad ... a dishonorable guy .... Computer Aided Design ... OH ... Canadian Dollars. Of course. We love RVing in the Arizona desert ... in January, not July.
Hahaha Used to head down in Nov and ha to be back by end of April to keep Medical. But yes, January and Especially February are the most intolerable here, but I preferred to drive the Class A thru the mountains before the snow/ice got too bad. Lake Chapala looks very reasonable, especially for rentals. Real Estate has certainly gone up!
Your videos are very nice. I enjoy watching. You are very blessed. The only thing is I don't know whether I would travel if that was my house. It is so beautiful. God Bless 🦋🐣💕
It is a beautiful house in a near paradise, but after 15 years of enjoying paradise we decided that traveling in a motor home while we're {I'm} still capable of driving a big rig was something we needed to do. RVers reach a point in their lives when they need an exit plan. We're so glad to have one, but not ready to sit here year around in a daily routine.
HI JERRY, I really would like your views on security for Americans or foreigners in MEXICO. I realize some areas are safer than others. Your input would greatly appreciated. Vince
vince simmons ... Those of us who live here at lakeside feel safe. There is crime, of course, as there is anywhere in the world. Being 40 miles out of Guadalajara, a city of 5 million, we hear of murder, kidnapping, extortion, armed robbery, and theft in the news as you would in any large city. Except for hearing of it from the media its not a part of our daily lives. I know Mexicans who would be scared to death to visit Chicago. Per capita, the murder capital of the world used to be Washington, DC. There are cartel wars, but they are a business. Innocents have been caught in the middle, but molesting tourists or expat foreigners is not one of their profit centers and, again, worrying about that is not a part of our daily life. A much more accurate generalization of Mexico is that the people are friendly, hard working, honest, and very happy to share their wonderful country with we foreigners. As a matter of fact, when there was talk of that wall and negative comments about Mexicans in the last US election, the local government called a town meeting here to assure we expats that we would continue to be a welcome part of the community.
Thank you for a great video. Can you tell us if there are rentals near you? I love your garden and seems like your climate is ideal for a gardener. Also, how do you get to Ajijic from Boston area? Agree with another comment or, looks like you live in a paradise.
There are many rentals here. We rent our house when we go to the States to RV. We use Victor at www.haciendaweb.com. Gardening ...3 planting seasons per year ... Fresh veggies all the time. I would get to Ajijic from Boston in an airplane. We're 25 minutes from Guadalajara International.
Hi JC. I found your channel before I knew you are an RVer .Mexico has been a great interest of mine for many years. As a young man 40 years ago I had visions of living there , however a lot has changed security wise since then. I have ridden busses all over Michoacan I also have visited Oaxaca. Veracruz,Jalisco, Mexico City, Monterrey .I Drove my first Motorhome to Cuidad Victoria San Luis Potosi and Saltillo I recently bought my third rv , a used 34' diesel pusher. I am chicken to cross the border with it What is your opinion? I enjoy what's on your mind today. .
Plan on staying around. Really like your videos and you and whatever you choose to show us. Would love to know about retiring in Mexico. Like housing costs, rent or purchasing? Food,,? Do you need to know the language? Whatever you can share would be great.
Madeleine Reilly ... I can understand why you would think that, but its not true. I've just made more videos while traveling in the States than while being at home in Mexico. This past Oct to Feb was our longest time out of Mexico in 15 years.Enjoying that newer bigger motorhome which we just purchased in March of 2016.
Is there reliable high speed internet in Ajijic? My job requires this. I would love to move there but first I would have to make sure I can work from my computer 8 hours per day 5 days per week
So that must be why Jerry Brown is allowing illegals in. I'm wondering. What about single women - older single women, is it safe? Is it safe to travel to town, etc.? And what about what happens with home ownership if you are a permanent resident - does that mean dual taxation?
One of us is confused. It might be me, Eliza. First, Jerry Brown does not have the power to allow or disallow anything. He makes great videos and provides a lot of info for people who are interested in moving to Mexico. What's that got to do with illegals? Is it safe for single older women? Pretty much, yes. Dual taxation?
opps ... hit the button before I was done .... Dual taxation? On what? Capital gains on the sale of your principal residence can be avoided in Mexico by being having a legal permanent residence immigration status.
Mexico has wonderful coffee and different flavors from different regions. Chiapas, Oaxaca. We have two roasters here at Lakeside. My favorite is from Veracruz. I buy it from a truck that comes to town for 140 pesos per kilo .... about $3.50 USD per pound.
Hi Jerry and Lynn, I love all your videos no matter what they are about.
Hi Jerry and Lynn I love your channel.
Gratitude always helps
Hey, someone else who lives in Ajjijic! 😀 I'm in USA right now, but I'll return back home soon! I'm glad to know that Ajjijic and Chapala are at least known!

The meat prices you showed on camera was rediculously high priced.
i understand VALCANO its 68 miles away and active now. couple yrs ago, two goats found charcoaled (cooked to death ) did ya know ?
I apologize if I am asking a question that has been answered before but, are you renting or did you buy and if so can you please disclose the cost
It say! 26 k on my screen .last I knew that was 26 thousand ..
Not kin,not friend, not going any where...

You made me smile. Thanks.
I've found your videos to be very enjoyable. I don't know why you don't have more subscribers because I think you should. I'm looking forward to seeing many more vids. I'd love to see what life is like in Mexico. Keep up the good work! 🌵🌵🌵
Thanks for the positive feedback! Life is like .... very enjoyable ... in Mexico.
Can anyone tell me what you do about health insurance while in Mexico, either full time or for 6 months at a time.
I will show you around. Thanks for asking. RVing in Mexico???? We had our old southwind in Mexico for 7 years and found that it was much more cost effective to travel in a car and stay in hotels. Many snowbirds winter on the beaches of Mexico in RVs, but the cost of a park with full hookups is nearly as much as an OK hotel room ... not in resorts like Puerto Vallarta, but in smaller Mexican beaches, not international tourist areas. RVing to Mexico for the winter ... OK. A week close to the border in Puerto Penasco, or San Carlos ... fine. ..For a week or two farther into the country ... stay in a hotel. {Free Opinion}
Hi Jerry and Lynn, What do you mean I have an accent? Anyways a great video, I will watch your videos because you are just a funny fellow. You know my family and friends have not subscribed to my channel either, and I have asked them to if they want to know where I am. Obviously they don't want to know.
What do you mean I'm a funny fellow? LOL!
Do you speak Spanish and if you do. How you learn?
Mi español es bueno en la ferretería, el restaurante y Pemex. No tengo palabras para la filosofía. No hay lecciones. Sólo la lengua de la calle. :)
Great video, just going to look up lowest prices in CAD that area. Ive heard so much about it. Would want to RV in AZ as well.😉
I had to look up what CAD is ... cad ... a dishonorable guy ....
JC Travel Stories Sounds good! Definitely makes sense. Especially being retired we run out of things to do.
I enjoy what's on your mind today. .
Thanks
We can’t get there fast enough. Selling all the crap plus house. Been once. Going again soon. So much to do
Mark on Cape Cod
mark stearns ... Been there, done that 16 years ago. You will not regret any of it. You won't miss the house or the crap. Welcome to the good life!
Plan on staying around. Really like your videos and you and whatever you choose to show us. Would love to know about retiring in Mexico. Like housing costs, rent or purchasing? Food,,? Do you need to know the language? Whatever you can share would be great.
Thanks for the content suggestions. I'm making a list of them to address in some upcoming videos.
It seems like you spent more time in the State than in Mexico.
Looking forward to hearing about rental advise for couple with dachshund until we retire
There are lots of rental companies at Lakeside. I use Victor at www.haciendaweb.com
Molders Mosaic ... Just tried it myself ... it worked fine.
Well, I’m not going anywhere! 😊 Mexico have any decent coffee?😉🚍
Mexico has wonderful coffee and different flavors from different regions. Chiapas, Oaxaca. We have two roasters here at Lakeside. My favorite is from Veracruz. I buy it from a truck that comes to town for 140 pesos per kilo .... about $3.50 USD per pound.
I'd like to sample the retired life in Ajijic area, could you send me a contact
Contact for what, David? Accomodations? VRBO. Ajijic Rentals. AirBnB.
@@JCTravelStories wow, Hi JC... yes accommodations in Ajijic and may need a pick up GDL, stuff like that. It's a new territory to me, Sr
oh, Thanks for responding to my inquiry
I would like all your FREE opinions! Why Mexico? Cost, politics, crime etc.
