    We know a remote farm in Lincolnshire where Mrs Buckley lives. Every July, peas grow there. This is a lot of shit, you know that?

    What's weird is that I've never seen the engineer, but I've always imagined him to look exactly as you've depicted him, with the glasses and the moustache.

    “Losing it?”
    I wouldn’t say so. He was getting a little pissy in a passive aggressive way, but he didn’t come anywhere close to losing it. He didn’t even raise his voice or insult the guy.

    I mean... Shatner was so offended they asked for a second take he ordered the director to do a line-read and then started mocking him for it...

    • @obscureentertainment8303

      As an actor with experience in voice over work, i completely understand Shatner's point. He isn't mocking the guy.

    • @Ryan-Petre
      @Ryan-Petre 3 года назад +9

      @@obscureentertainment8303 I completely understand Shatner's point as well, the director was being dumb and unprofessional. But with that said, Shatner was in fact being incredibly passive aggressive, combative and mocking. Like, after he did the take following the line read it was pretty clear that the director had gotten the point and was willing to ease off and just let him do his thing, but Jesus Christ Shatner just couldn't let it go. He knew what he was doing.

    So the client *pays* for a celebrity endorsement. They *want* Shatner to be Shatner. So Shatner comes to deliver and a technician, probably a rookie, interjects himself, and proceeds to display his ignorance. Shatner proceeds to do the technician and future talent a favor and show how him how it's done and discipline him with humiliation. Bravo!

    Shatner was in the right the whole time.
    Director didn't actually know what he wanted, other than to be William Shatners Boss for a used car commercial.
    Shatner did exactly as he was directed to do, imitating the directors tone perfectly.
    But the director clearly started backpedalling after he realized he forgot WHO THE HELL HE WAS TALKING TO.
    Shatner needs no Vocal Direction.
    I will say though, I'm OK with the Director when he asked for a little more excitement. But the example the director tried to pull off...was robotic.
    But that's exactly what Shatner did. He did what the Director said, and Showed. To a T.
    Director did not know how he sounded until Shatner mimicked him. He actually thought Bill was making up the tone, to mock him, but it's ACTUALLY how Director boy sounded.
    Shatner is Brilliant. He figured all of that out in a nanosecond, because it's likely not the first time a much younger than he, Director, was just a little out of depth.
    It's like trying to tell David Attenborough how to narrate Nature Videos, after he's done it for 100 years already.
    Granted, Shatner likely wanted to do it all in one take and eff off.
    He's Captain Freakin Kirk. He has that privilege. People will be doing impressions of him for centuries.
    Edit: just thought of this 2 minutes after I posted, but...this Incident, would have actually been the perfect time and place for Shatner to have said "you do know who I am right?"
    But he is too intellectual. Instead he taught the boy a lesson and humbled him, all while being 100% professional and not once raising his voice, calling him names, demeaning or insulting him.
    Fkn class Act Bill. Awesome.

    I have a feeling he was booked for a long session by an ad agency and probably recorded a bunch of different radio spots back-to-back and this is near the end. Working with Engineers is probably like working with Computer Programmers -- they're a special class of asshole that loves its own farts and can't understand why you don't too.

  • @yoda76dog

    I don't really see the issue. I think the techie dude was rightfully after a little more energy than the first line read. He got it in the second. Then the techie foolishly fell into Mr Shatners trap. Or did he? Mr Shatner was also being very clear that he was providing what was being requested. He wasn't rude. He didn't swear. He didn't raise his voice. Was there a edge of condescension?... Perhaps. The techie dudes panic was pretty hilarious though 😂

    I am certainly not famous, but I have done voiceover, narration, and video interviews in my career. I have had instances like this. A producer or Director insists that you say something the way they think you should say it. It can get very frustrating and very uncomfortable.

    Director was completely right with his first note. The second take was better.

    • @aaroncecil7509
      @aaroncecil7509 Год назад +1

      I think the first take was better overall, but the way he said "Shatner" on the first take was off. I think the director correctly noted that something was wrong at the beginning of the read, but had completely insufficient experience to articulate the problem correctly. It's why Shatner started laughing right away. "Do it again with more energy" is some of the hackiest direction a person can give, especially for some dumb cooperate copy, and it's a obvious tell he is dealing with a total amateur that just wants to insert himself in the process. And Shatner doesn't want to stand there all day doing reads over and over for a guy who can't give direction because he isn't go to add anything that would actually help the end product.
      It's a bit like a couch potato calling out the starting QB for a bad throw. He's probably right, but that doesn't mean he has the expertise to direct the player to throw a perfect spiral. It's better to not try to tell Aaron Rogers how to pass until you really know exactly what you're talking about.
