  • Here it is folks: The Grudge Match.
It's William Shatner vs Rush Limbaugh.
This is a segment from William Shanter's talk show, Raw Nerve.
A rare overtly political moment for Mr.Shatner and a rare overtly reasonable moment for Mr. Limbaugh....well, for a bit anyway.
Bill's expression at 1:31 is priceless.
Well, at least he made Rush laugh.

I believe the battles ( very small at first) will be between the "right" and the "left" ( democrats). Naturally, Law enforcement and military personnel will have to choose sides. Democrats have proven to be Pro-Crime, anti-Police and anti-military so I doubt Democrats will have much of their support!

This was a good interview, but Rush seemed too "passionate" about his conservative beliefs. Rush equated having health care with having a bungalow or house on the beach somewhere and not that health care should be a right, but like a house on the beach which is a privilege of the wealthy. Rush Limbaugh seems to believe that if you give human beings quality health care just like they do in England, Canada, Australia, and Europe that won't bankrupt them, then something bad will happen. What that bad thing that will happen is, he doesn't know. Rush believes if you give people basic shelter, food, education, and health care, then people won't work or put energy into bettering themselves and their lives. He believes people will just spend their entire lives being dependent on the Government and not try to improve their lives and their families. I have a higher regard for people than Rush Limbaugh does. Not everything in this life is just based on talent and skill, there's a big element of luck and what century and circumstances you were born in to. Rush is extremely wealthy, so it sounds like he believes that people who are either talented or just plain lucky enough to make money or be born into it deserve the basic needs of food, shelter and health care to be met. And he also seems to detest anyone that's dependent on the Government or family because of poor health, disability, or lack of talent or ambition or just being born in to a poor environment. No, he equated having *good* healthcare with having a bungalow or house on the beach somewhere. @ 1:45 Shatner says 'if you don't have money, it's going to be more difficult' - to which Rush said if you don't have money you can't have a bungalow...etc.
Then Rush made the most important point that Shatner didn't want to divert to - the notion that healthcare is a morally superior requirement than housing. It was an important lesson in demonstrating how we think. Was lost. The point was this...sure you need healthcare, only housing is an even more important basic need for you than even healthcare. Food. Food is an even *more* important basic need for humans. You will die from no food only after a few days. You'll perish from exposure without housing. So...the point is that there is a long list of things we could excuse due to moral imperative, like Healthcare.
How can you argue for healthcare for all, paid by the government, but not food for all paid by the government? But not housing for all, paid by the government? Using moral appeals to basic needs by taking the labor from others is the argument, and it fails the moral test. No one's labor belongs to you - it belongs to them.
The moral is simple. Consensual labor. You have no right to take the labor from a person. It belongs to them. Their body, their choice. Just like sex, you must get consent to get someone's labor. That's the moral. And no amount of suffering or disadvantage earns you the right to take it from them.
Instead, conservatives argue for sympathy, and to lend a hand up. Labor by free choice. They argue against *laws* and argue for charitable actions. You may disagree with the moral, but that's what it is. It's not about not caring about the suffering - it's about not allowing suffering to make excuses to steal the labor from people - that's called slavery. And we ended that.

Shatner is one intelligent guy. Rush should have tried to keep the discussion calmer. He looks a little half cocked at times. Interesting how Shatner points out that the fundamental aim of Rush is shared by almost everyone (sane). We all want freedom and independence. The problem is some people blame others for their problems and we shouldn't do that. Plus people feel so much better when they fix things themselves instead of the government handing them solutions on a platter, free of charge. Even if it fixes their problem they don't feel fulfilled by that solution. Its hollow.
