Yes but so many do it anyway. I was asked several illegal questions in my interviews. It’s usually from interviewers who don’t know they’re not allowed, but it still would be really awkward to say that’s an illegal question so most of us just answer
We need more of this. I can contribute and brainstorm; I'm applying into psychiatry this year and have faced the dilemmas / struggles / healthcare hypocrisy / craze! I'm probably making the disillusionment stronger than it seems, but I love the humor and can relate lol
It depends, 6 months would be a lot so if you had medical complications and couldn’t work you would likely have to make it up. Otherwise they may remove electives or try to work stuff around so you graduate on time. Unfortunately maternity/paternity leave will eat all of your vacation time at a lot of programs
@@itspresrothanks for the response! i never really thought about paternity/maternity leave in residency before this video funnily enough since most ppl i’ve talked to did it in 4th year/had kids coming into school.
My wife had 2 kids when I was in undergrad and 1 when I was in medical school. No leave available in the educational system. We did our best to balance the load but she was incredibly stressed and experienced postpartum depression with each child. Now in psych residency, we had our fourth child and I got 6 weeks paid paternity leave (not eating into any of my vacation time) and no postpartum depression to be found. Paternity leave is as much (if not even more) for moms as it is for dads. We were so grateful for it.
@@itspresro Oh wow.. Here in the UK you’re legally owed up to 12 months off (per baby) and that’s separate to annual leave/vacation time. You do end up spending a longer time in your training program to make up for it, but otherwise it seems less harsh!
Me interviewing: I’m actually sterilized yeah I raised three of em and now I’m an empty husk with no hormones and a totally flat mood forever. Tbh I’m AI generated
nothing sad about it. Why would a workplace hire someone who's planning on getting knocked up as soon as her job gets secured and dip out for months, very likely go part time, or probably even quit? This is the reality and we're living in a world where we care too much about feelings than practicality. I'd be pissed if I was covering for a chick who got preggo.

Interviewing for a competitive specialty as a woman in 2023: Interviewer: You’re a woman? Woman: Yes. Interviewer:You’re in. BTW would you like to be on our DEI team, wear this awesome shirt. Take a few photos for social media, and mentor some young girls?
Wow, this is so insulting to the amazing women who worked their asses off and deserve to be in competitive specialties. I'm sorry that you attribute your own personal failings to imagined "reverse discrimination".
@@michaelbrown071493reverse discrimination is real. A case was discussed by the Supreme Court...do some reading and prepare a presentation for rounds tomorrow
Sorry, gender discrimination is still alive & well at careers requiring a high skill level to perform and are of high value to the community served (even if the pool of applicants are equally or more female) You must be confusing it for jobs that don't have equal expectations of competence, like healthcare administration
That DO, MD joke 😂
"That other kind of applicant."
The side eye when she says “you already looked at my application”
I could barely contain my rage, well played both of you 😅
“You can see I’m relaxed” with the mouthful of food 😂
The laughter at the end was very welcome. Thanks for ending the torture quickly 😂

I literally had to pause the video to laugh at his deadpan reaction to her joke
So much rage 😂 it’s amazing to see how this is a theme across the medicine. Anesthesia too.
It's actually illegal for someone to ask if you're planning to have kids

This was so good that I had to shut it off halfway thru because of how enraging it was. Well done.
the crossover we all needed😂😂
Your videos are great at bringing back past traumas

My IR interviews were soo chill and awesome….but it’s the best field ever!

Channel your inner AT Still and CRI energy to guide you. I plan on completely purging almost all OMM after comlex 3. Good luck, from a fellow DO. 😂

I'm dying LOL
I am so triggered by this 😂
