Best drummer to ever work with these folks. Steve's intent, commitment, groove, sound and energy are unmatched to this day. What a force to be reckon with. And the time, HOLY CR*P!
MT skilfully plays on several levels: retro, fusion, variety and jazz. The quartet (it is not the same as in its early days, but without breaking the spirit) has brought back into fashion a vocal style that had fallen into oblivion, with a harmonizing technique close to PERFECTION and a keen musical intelligence. Illustrious jazz figures have played with them, and not just for the money. "Singapore" with its quote from Poinciana reminds us of the “Four Freshmen”, doesn't it? In France we had the marvelous "Les Double Six"....
On "To You" : Harmonization on this ballad at 4 voices is hard enough, but at 8, without skidding or losing pitch, it's miraculous! I don't know if you realize how difficult it is.... I suspect that without the feedback in the ears, it would have been much more of a challenge. They shared the background of the 5 trombones that can be heard with devotion, please, on the CD “The Count Meets The Duke, 1962”, released by Columbia in 1999. A must-have, by the way. What do you think?
Close your eyes instead, and listen....And as once said the great jazzanarchist Bernard Lubat : "Jazz? A music of young people who want to stay old!". Bryan, please, meditate on it !
I don't know, but I'll find out. Thanks, Thaddaeus (what a wonderful first name, btw!) for the question, as a-cappella is the definitive judge. Perhaps you have a reference in their plethoric discography?
This takes me back to the 1950 when songs like this one meant something. We danced close and with feeling.
Those last 20 min are golden.
These are the FUNKIEST White Singers EVER. COOLEST...!!! Janice I LOVE YOU.

So cool to hear a live version of Spain. That’s a new favorite of mine. Plus hearing Bahia (Hear the Voices)

Ew. Vocal are no for me. It’s like listening to senior citizens singing.
You saying senior citizens shouldn't be allowed to sing? Are you a fucking nazi?
