This video should be called. How to scratch the hell out of your vinyl fence
Glad somebody else noticed it. One day that vinyl is going to break when that weed eater string hits it.
And “how to weed whack your grass down to the dirt”
I came here for the same thing. If this is my place, flower bed along this type of fences.
@@oceanlover1663 definitely a good idea or at least a row of bricks on the ground to give you a barrier line where stuff doesn't grow. Then you can weed eat up against the brakes all you want to.
😂
I do landscaping for a living. Hold your weed eater upside down and at an angle.
And ALWAYS wear safety glasses.
🕶️ sunglasses 😎
Safety squints then your there
And if you want those glasses to work, you gotta point your face at that spinnin part, if you look down your nose you wont have to work long before catching some flavor of shit in your peepers.
Thank you for sharing your experience about eye safety! Ill keep putting them glasses on... my eyes are very important to me
Gardener here, it shocks me how many people don't seem to understand how much versatility you have with a string trimmer...
I usually just take the fence down, mow then reinstall the fence.
I go the extra mile and plant cedar trees along fence 20 years in advance so it all ready by the time i need it
same
This method also works when trimming along chain link fencing. Slow down the head and the string will wrap around the links getting the sneaky ones hanging out behind it.
This is great knowledge. I have quite a few clients that have chain link and its so annoying
@@every_thing_wood1251 it is very annoying to cut around chain link. But yeah slow and steady helps
it will save on string usage too
I like to half throttle or less the entire time for this exact reason as I’m tackling a mile or more each time I cut
@@every_thing_wood1251I mow a few ballparks and have miles of chain link to weedeat. I go full throttle and bury that shit in the ground.
This dude prolly owns a fence company
😂😂 left a lovely mark
Underrated comment 😂😂
My boss: “what’s the hold up?”
Me: “I’m feathering it”
😉
👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How to scratch the hell out of your fence and scalp the shit out of your grass.
It’s insane to me how many people bump the head on the grass like that
I came upon this video trying to prove to my husband that I wasn’t scalping the yard and damaging the fence and thought this was a great example.. Then I read the comments.. 🫠
@@jordanjones7985 lmfao my bad
He didnt scratch the fence. Thats actually the point of going slow. Also he doesnt want grass growing there anyway. A bunch of competition growing pros in these comments here. Man we are all so lucky to have you guys and your endless expertise
@@wcovey25 You do that to feed out more trimmer line
You'll never have to weed eat that spot again, you scalped the life out of it!
It will grow back in 2 weeks. You have no idea what your talking about
@Ryan DeYoung I was a crew chief for 15 years in one of Ontario, Canada's largest landscape firms. I absolutely do know what I'm talking about. If you did that on one of our sites, you'd be looking for a new job. Even if the grass grew back in 2 weeks, you'd be there to scalp it again. Come high summer, everything will be burned out. If I were your customer, I would want green grass, not a burned out perimeter. I could honestly care less if that's how you run your business, eventually someone will complain about it. Remember this comment when they do 👍
@@maplehouseknivesI think they just took your comment as saying that the grass would never grow there again, but you’re right if it’s very hot it will kill it and nobody wants the edges of their fences to be dirt only
He should have a shaving cream attachment installed on his weed eater 🤣
Thats my philosophy.
This hurt my soul to watch. Bless him
"Bless him"🤣
My girl said the same thing, I need to quit jamming it in there and feather it in. This video explained what she was talking about, thank you!!
Your mom said that too. Crazy
When I was landscaping we had a trick for tight spots. In this situation we would turn the weedeater so that the bump head faced the fence, we would cut the string super short and tilt it so that we could get close to the fence without hitting it. The line would be shortened so that you could bring the tip of line to the edge of the post and move it towards you to trim the tops. I feel like a visual would be more useful for this but it's dark and raining and I'm not that dedicated. Hope this helps somebody.
This is also a legit trick but I would only do it on wood or metal fences to avoid chipping.
One day you're going to regret hitting that vinyl fence with that weed eater like that. That vinyl can't take it.
I used to work for a company cutting lawns and we had one neighborhood where it was HOA requirement that your yard be bordered by those snap together 3 foot tall vinyl fences with 30 inch gates. I know most aren’t THIS bad but our weed eaters would literally splinter entire posts at the slightest contact and most of the homeowners didn’t even care because they knew how trashy they were. We also kept a supply of the fence posts for the occasional complaint and they were so cheap it didn’t really matter.
Same with a pressure washer. Probably Pierce z hole right thru them cheap ass vinyl fences. They don't work anyway. A garden hose and x wet towel takes the green algae crap right off.
Now a quick tip on how to remove the grass stains along the fencing you just put there. I actually use sanitizing wipes. The alcohol in them remove the grass stains pretty well. 👍
Some stay at home dad vibes
Better than stay at home mom. He did yard work too
I'm jealous of stay at home dads. I'd quit my job to spend more time with my kids if I could
You must be jealous
Grass killer 1 to 2 times per year 3 to 4 inch wide spray nozel along all fences and edges. Save yourself time and money!
Everyone saying he’s scratching the fence hasn’t weed whacked very many of these vinyl fences before. There is no way to accomplish what he did without hitting the fence some. String trimmers cut in circles so it can’t reach into the corner without some finesse. Plus even on a straight section you have to rub the fence a little bit to get a clean even cut. This is actually a great tip and something I discovered organically while working with my friend who owns his own lawn care business. Without doing this the corners just grow super tall and look ugly/unkept. The fact that weed eaters damage these fences over time is just one of the many flaws of these fences. You’re not just gonna not weed eat your fence to prevent damaging it.
Feather the throttle , excellent term
DANG!!! That’s the way to do it if you want to have dirt around your fence & not grass. SMH
A wise landscaper once told me never needed a weed eater what you can't get with the mower needs round up. Today I know the bad things that come from round up. But lots of people use to live this way
GREAT INFORMATION!!
Thank you so very much; you’re the Best! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That vinyl fence is going to get eaten to shit eventually if you keep doing that
Stronger than wood
pvc one year sun a weedeater toast wood going on 24 years bubuskie
even if you dont damage the fence you will scuff the everliving shit out of it to a point where long grass would look better. Its fine at your own house if you are ok with it but certainly unacceptable on a paid job.
@@babushkaboi7288 nooo😂
@@andrewut7ya511not much else you can do unless customer wants to pay for weed control or have shitty looking overgrown grass every 6 feet in the backyard
The real tip is to keep your line shorter to get deeper in the corner.
Bs, slowing down helps. A lot.
@@stnkfst8639exactly. Like this is rocket science.😂
@zachary freeman works better with gas ones you have better throttle control
Now do a video showing how to get the other, back side, of the post where the string is turning away from; not in to. That would be very helpful!
That is a Milwaukie cordless string trimmer. "Weed Eater" is a brand of string trimmers.
As someone who works for a company that installs these types of fences, I must say, a LOT of people end up breaking that bottom rail this way. For the record, to fix a bottom rail we charge $300..
i flip it upside down, only been weed whackin for 4 years straight 😂
I run my weed Wacker as an "edger" 90% of the time I'm running it. Against the house anywhere, against wooden steps and decks, only at corners do I run it flat where I know I can't get it all with the push or rider
I always just slightly angled my weed eater and it worked just as quick
here’s a quick tip, spray a mist of pouson along your fence three inches off the ground then spread 6 inch wide mulch bed. never weed eat again.
Love those Milwaukee tools.
For 40 yrs I spray both sides of fence with Diesel from a pump sprayer to kill grass. One application per year works great
I had a small cordless weed wacker that was under powered. I used it to do all my fences. It worked great and didn’t damage my fences. I used to big boy for everything else.
Okay, but what about the harder right hand corner since it spins left ?
Doesnt matter. For the weed eater its the same bc it spins 360 degrees.
@@ACIDlike lol. Never used one before huh?
It pulls grass out on the right corner and pushes the grass in on the left side ..cause of the rotation of the gear box .
if it's too tight of a corner
reach down and pull it out
I turn my wacker vertically for both sides
Here's a quick pro tip, aim for the dirt where the fence meets. I'd much rather see the dirt than a customers fence all marked up. That matters
Flip it over like you’re doing some edging, edge it along the fence then come back with a cleanup trim!
Great advice! Thanks for sharing.
My thoughts exactly
That's a Milwaukee, not a Weed Eater. They don't make Weed Eater anymore. It was purchased by another company: Husqvarna.
Quicker tip if you were to cut with the right hand side of the weed wacker and walk along the fence edge. You would be cutting and throwing the grass the proper direction
Well that’s faster than using my trusty scissors for all of my weed eating.
That’s the easy corner, do the opposite side
The nozzle on the Roundup bottle gets in the corners too.😅
You could always vertical cut at the edge of your fence line and just mow it. 😉
Beating the crap out of that fence dude.
Thx. Will give this a shot tomorrow.
Turning around the fence into dead grass in a spin. Lol nailed it
Love the safety glasses!
This dudes got more money than sense.
Get a Stihl, or at least an Echo.
@@ronniecox109 That Milwaukee is nice and no messing with gas. Perfect for a homeowner.
I bet you thought really hard to come up with that :)
Too bad it doesn’t really make too much sense here
@@ronniecox109 same fucking thing
Landscaping is such a satisfying job.
This is a video I show to new workers in training. Definitely an A+ for you sir 👍👍👍
This is a wicked tip, thanks brother.
Here's a tip. DON'T use a weedeater on vinyl fences. A little age on the vinyl it will crack in knock holes in it. Use weed killer instead.
If you don't mind round up, good trick for edging around sidewalk is to spray roundup beside the sidewalk, a few days later dig that area up. Now you'll look like you did a great edging job all summer!
Thank you for this!!! Those areas always drive me nuts😅
This is why I keep all grass and plants a foot away from my fence
What helps 99% more is that gap at the bottom of the fence conviently right there
So glad i dont have to beat the shit outta my fence since i was sluck about weed and grass growth prevention 4 inches away on each side. Mower gets all of it without the need for weed wackin 😁
Never trust a dude with an electric weed eater...
Lmfao 😂😂😂😂
Lol why ? I just bought one
so many professional lawn care dudes have electric string trimmers now.
The future is now old man. You got a petrol powered drill too?
Eh they're good for homeowners, the battery bank you have to keep on board plus batteries is ridiculously expensive and the batteries die... lawn guys you see with battery powered equipment also drink Bud Light
Or flip your weed eater and edge it instead of leaving a 6" gap of no grass up to your fence🤷
Most people just hold the weed eater up so it doesn't do that. Or your bump button might be worn out letting it sit lower.
Always mow before weedeating always saves you a headache
it's nice to see someone else mistakenly got the Milwaukee weedeater before they made the interchangeable model.
Some lovely fence carnage there 👍
It was already there genius. Also the marks are black. Never stepped foot in a yard obviously
If the fence looked like this after I would get the jumper cables
You scalped it 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for the tip
Always loved that 6”-8” diameter concrete ring around posts to keep them looking clean AF. These post footings must have been covered and planted after? Tear.
Vinyl fence should have been installed an inch from the ground giving the string trimmer clearance room to go under it now you're going to have to burn the edge into it each time to prevent from destroying the fence
Great info thanks
No one ever taught me that I learned it when weed eating chain link fences
This helped me and I own a lawn company
I always just turn the weedeater vertical
“That scratch was there before I cut it my company is not liable for the damage”
Quick tip: Only "homeowners" call them "Weed Eaters"!!! 😋
To professionals, it's either "Weed Whacker" or "string trimmer". 🤠👍
Exactly!
Word on the street is those electric weed eaters make you take a piss sitting down as well.
they do if you leave the guard on
@@dancearoundtheworld5360 preach
Lol. I just say fuck it. I have more important things to worry about. 😂😊
That’s how you got around the swing set as a teenager. I carried a pair of shears for the trees… dad would swat my legs if he saw missing bark
VERY helpful!!!!!
Now do that 32 more times. Both sides 😂 baby I’m blasting it!!!!
Dude risking it all without glasses on
Wow! Absolutely amaxing. Never seen that before.
It’s amazing how little people know or can figure out without instructions. How do people make it through life?
Yeah I just spray those corners with a little roundup and I don’t have to deal with them
NOTICE
he did the easy side, the other side of the pole would not have been so easy since the wacker spins counter clockwise
turn your wacker vertically for both sides
and you can manage the wacker wooping that you give the fence
Weedeater is a brand name. String trimmer, Weed whip, ECT anything but Weedeater.
I just rev and tickle with the tip, it usually cuts it first contacts it’s just not wanting to nai nai on the fence
Boy was out there tilling with a weed eater. Green grass has left the chat
Round up 4" all the way around the back and don't let the trimmer touch the fence
Nothing like spraying hazardous chemicals all over your yard to make your life slightly more convenient
The people worried about scratching a fence....a FENCE!! 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤣
I usually pour a small trail of Gasoline next to the fence line and then light it on fire to kill off the grass. Works good, and the neighbors dog won't bark at me for weedwacking next to the fence
Yep, your name checks out
Use a spray so shut doesn’t grow directly under your fence….did lawn care for years and that’s exactly why we did it…so all the Milwaukee dads dont muck up a plastic vinyl fence..
Spray round up once a month along the fence line.
All that does is kill all the vegetation and then rain splashes the mud up on the fence and eventually erodes the dirt. Looks like shit after a year or so of doing that
Scalped, still have the gaurd on your wacker lol, and the strings are way too short
Dude just chewed the fence up and left marks all over it. Quick tip buy a Stihl and don't let the little weed eater whoop you
The fence already had marks on it genius. And they are black. Clearly not from a string trimmer
This changed my life.
Wow, what a genius.
Thanks. I always wondered how this was done
Thank you. I'm " this" old which is too old and having to learn to do this.😢
Thanks Bro!!
No problem!
Here’s another quick tip on how to get rid of those weeds in hard to reach areas: weed killer!!
If u can, pour a concrete foundation along the length of fence, looks better and no damage from the trimmer.)
Ur wrists turn in different directions. And so does the weedeater. Nifty inventions
Round up works great for the entire fence.
My first gas weed whacker I'm not too crazy about. It's very aggressive and tend to catch or grab the chain link fence if I just barely touch it. I've always used corded electric ones but noticed my neighbors cordless electric weed whippers seem easy to use and do a nice job.
Also a nice Roundup treatment works
