You missed one important thing because the game was paused! As your plane flies, it keeps scanning the target you're looking at, and every scan is done from a slightly different position. The image quality might be very bad at first, but it will increase every time it scans the area. However JSOWs and JDAMs still can be very inaccurate if you're aiming them like this, and i don't know why.
@@The_world_is_not_worthy_of_Him When attacking a target with a laser though fog, smoke and clouds the shooter isn't going to be using laser guided weapons.
I would love to see more on "ground radar reading", more examples please, and how to handle this in a more realistic scenario, when SAMs and enemy aircraft defend the area.
It's also really just good for looking for targets in general, even in great weather. Just looking for tanks in a 40nmi² area is just not fun with a targeting pod if you have nothing else to go on. If they're moving it's even easier. Although I wonder how workable this would be in real life with real traffic moving about. I mean if a column of vehicles is moving through a field that's pretty suspicious but I don't think anything would be suspicious about some vehicles moving along a road, especially if it's a big one like a motorway.
No one commented on it yet. So the quality of the terrain depends on your heading relative to the scanning area. Due to Dopler shift you can see that the terrain is blurry. I suggest flying around 45 degrees right or left from your potential target to increase the resolution of the AG radar.
Dear Mr. Cap, at 2:35 you are wondering about the notch on the EXP1 screen. I don´t think, that this is about doppler physics.I think it´s more about, how an SAR-radar works. The precision and sharpness of the image comes from illuminating a certain area from different angles. When flying directly towards the observed area, there will be no change in the angle of view. Therefore, the whole principle of SAR won´t work, when fying head-on. I´ve played around a bit with looking at Dubai Intl. and the John C. Stennis. The first images are blurry, but getting sharper, when you´re passing the observed area or flying around it. When trying with the John C.. Stennis, I was flying at about 40.000 ft in a light left turn around the carrier (about 45° arc around) and you can roughly recognize the shape of the carrier on radar after a while. Here are the screenshots: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1iWlQeb7pZNKSAzVtJrhaadimuj6LIcGa?usp=sharing I hope this is understandable and many thanks for that great video. This was a valuable starting-point for me. Viele Grüße...
Actually it kind of forces you to fly properly in relation to your ground target. If you think about it, its proper procedure to build up lateral separation between you and your target as you approach it, especially if you are just searching a general area and have no knowledge of AAA or manpads. So having that blind spot, while admittedly not ideal when far away from your target, will force you to circle the target at a safe distance as try to ID it.
I know you wanted to make a short video but in a situation like this it would be wise to make a pass or two with the game unpaused so the radar can sharpen up the image, to be sure of what you're killing
either way, if you designated it for a JSOW, it would only fly to the coordinates updated at the moment of weapon release, so would not track a moving target. would be interesting to combine this with a SLAM and the TV link pod, though!
The radar can actually see directly in front. The wedge that is cut out of the return is NOT a radar limitation, but rather a *deliberate* software limitation. The radar takes much longer to build a good image when mapping directly in front of the aircraft, so the designers deliberately, by means of software, made it so that the radar image directly in front is not displayed. That way, aircrews are forced to map the target area in the way that is quickest.
