Hard to say this is the worst managed, cursed is the better word. The Charlotte Hornets and Wizards are worse. The Clips are the unluckiest for sure. That move for PG13 was very short-sighted without contemplating the long-term consequences. When they had PG and Kawhi, the roster they put around them was pretty decent, so its hard to say its the worst managed. Its just Kawhi and PG kept getting injured....and the two best shots they had at a title were hampered by something. In 2020, it was Doc River's shitty coaching decisions. In 2021, it was Kawhi's injury.

No, they're not. I wish people could distinguish between process and results. Sometimes you try something and it doesn't work. It doesn't mean it was wrong to try it.
Poorly managed is adding Bradley Beal to Phoenix when he solves none of your issues and eliminates your ability to add depth. Poorly managed is when you hang onto Beal for five years too long and give him a no-trade clause like Washington did. Poorly managed is whatever the hell the Chicago Bulls are doing. Poorly managed is when the PROCESS doesn't make sense. Adding PG and Kawhi to a team with quality depth was not bad process.
A year ago, everyone was slamming the Wolves for trading for Gobert. But now they make a WCF and suddenly it's a great move? It's so silly to judge everything on results when there's so much luck and health involved.

    • @brushylake4606
      @brushylake4606 День назад

You're absolutely right. Trying and failing isn't necessarily indicative of bad management. However, the Clippers ignored evidence that could have allowed them to avoid their current mess.
Look at the injury and his actions with the Spurs. If he and his people were right, he was a damaged asset that wouldn't ever be reliable and would go downhill quickly. If the Spurs were correct, he was putting himself first and ignoring his teammates, his contractual obligations, and the desires of the organization and fans. So, the Clippers knew they were getting either a part time player or someone who wasn't team first.
Either way, go ahead and sign him, but don't structure your team's future to placate him. Kawhi is a historically great and historically flawed player; both of those facts were apparent before they signed him. The Clippers thought they were getting MJ, but they actually signed Sam Bowie.

Worst isn't a reflection of purely results, but considering the talent they've had, the hype they've garnered, and their future prospects, yes, they definitely are in the running for "worst managed franchise". If for nothing else, being so desperate that they caved to Kawhi's demands to get PG demonstrated their weakness. Then signing the two most overrated players in NBA history (Harden and Westbrick) were bad. Now, they straight up picked Harden and Kawhi over PG.
They should have signed Kawhi to a contract that had heavy incentives, given PG a better contract option and let Harden go. Now, they've got two guys that are famous for coming up short when they're needed the most.

@@brushylake4606 feel pretty confident that every team would have made the deal to get both Kawhi and PG. Of course they have always underdelivered but not because of management. It has been injuries to Blake, CP, Kawhi, and PG. They signed Westbrook for the minimum, bad take to say that's a bad signing. I do think the Harden trade felt a bit forced. But again, what does management do? Stay mediocre for the past 13 years? NBA is a players league, teams always meet their demands. This isn't the NFL. So you think the Clippers would have been better off being a bad/mediocre team over the past decade than make the trades they made? Most teams aren't built through the draft anymore..other than maybe the Celtics with JB and Tatum, most teams are made through trades and free agent signing. So I don't think the future has been sacrificed.

Minnesota is a team that has proven itself (more than the Clippers have tbh) to be a major team to stay in the west regardless of what happens. The only ones that are really going to truly hurt from this RIGHT when one single domino falls is Atlanta and Cleveland, especially if Cleveland messes up this Garland trade.

Dropping PG13 brightens the future of the Clippers and made their team *BETTER!* The Clippers are now ahead of the curve of other teams in with the new 2nd apron rule. The Clippers dropped a choker (PG13), signed a better defender, got Nico back, got a decent backup C, and they're not done. They're getting rid of Westbrook and Tucker. They lowered their ceiling (that they hardly ever reached with PG) and raised their floor. They got rid of the whiny low IQ guy who wanted to be overpaid and kept demanding point guards and offense changes around him. Everyone on the West except for the Wolves and Thunder got worse, while the Clippers got deeper. Wolves are the same, Thunder got better. The Clippers are #3 in the West even without PG and they still stack up on paper against #1 and #2.

The revisionist history on the Paul George trade is kinda wild.
-Kawhi Leonard leveraged the hell out of threatening to just sign with the Lakers and joining Lebron James if the Clippers didn't trade for Paul George.
-The Clippers essentially traded SGA who, at the time, was just a promising 20 year old rookie and control of their draft from 2022 to 2026 for arguably the best two way player in the NBA in Kawhi Leonard and Paul George who was coming off a season in which he was 3rd in MVP voting.
Yes it was a lot and yes it has ended with three playoff series wins, but people are simply lying if they're telling you they weren't making that trade at that time.

I bet Jerry West did some sweet talking for the OKC behind close door to agree with the trade. Even when PG makes it sound like it was a done deal trade. Sam Presti emotion response was the opposite. Sam Presti didn't want a rebuild unless he's given a lot of capital.
Why you think PG keep saying the LOGO.

The Clippers are actually cursed. I don’t know if it’s someone cursing Donald Sterling years and years ago in the 60s-80s or something else but they’re absolutely cursed.
The Kawhi situation was so unique though. You have at the time, the best player in the world (or at least top 3) coming off of a finals MVP with a team that really had no other star aside from him (Siakam had a postseason but his play actually suffered once Kawhi left and he was given the keys) wanting to come join your organization and you have to give up nothing but a salary all 29 other teams would gladly pay themselves. On top of that you have a billionaire owner.
But Kawhi was always a package deal. In essence, the Clippers traded that insane haul to the Thunder not only for George but also for Kawhi. There’s no guarantee he signs if they’re not able to get him a sidekick like George and those guys aren’t just growing on trees.
The one major red flag was Kawhi’s behavior with the Spurs. That organization did nothing but win and that regime molded 4 Hall of Famers (5 including Kawhi). If you have a problem with them then YOU are the problem and that’s exactly what happened.
I think Kawhi’s reluctance to really put in the hard yards and training that could risk injury in the offseason has made his body susceptible to injury. That’s why he’s so broken down all the time.
It was a tough call but the Clippers should’ve just brought back PG, tried it one more year and if it failed then you tear the whole thing down.
I know their luxury tax bill would’ve been substantial but billionaire owner Steve Balmer has shown that his checkbook is always ready to go.
Bring back George, bring back Harden, Russ has to come back and you have Kawhi under contract. I believe Norman Powell and Zubac, two key role players, are also due back.
Remember there was a time earlier last season after the Clippers added Harden that the West went through the Clippers or Denver. You HAVE to give that one more chance.
What’s the worst case scenario? It’s another injury riddled campaign, you pay heavy taxes for a year but then you begin your rebuild and get quite a bit of valuable assets unloading Paul (we saw how robust his market was), Harden, Powell, Zubac and Kawhi. You start from scratch.
Instead the Clippers….. Clippered. They let a guy who they traded a half decade of their future and a future MVP contender go for absolutely nothing. NOTHING. Zilch. Not even a bogo coupon. You bring back basically the same squad last year minus quite arguably your best player and definitely your second best player and you bring back a guy at $25M a year who is a shell of what he was a few years ago.
What exactly is the point? The clippers will let their entire roster walk in free agency and begin the longest, dumbest and most painful rebuild in North American history unless they get a miracle…or 5.
