Great video Keana!! I can't wait to see more videos from you. I just got hired as pharmacy tech with a hospital at satellite retail building. I'm so excited and nervous to start in two weeks. I've been watching so many different videos hoping to see a DITL. I've noticed there are so many different settings in becoming a pharmacy tech, retail seems more fast-paced and hospitals depending on the role is more calm. But anywhoo I just wanted to comment and say great video and I cant wait to see more!!
Your videos have been so helpful. I started out in billing and coding, but starting on Friday as a retail pharmacy tech. Although I think the hospital is where I'd like to be. I think I like the atmosphere better.
awww thank you lauren! i’m glad i’m able to help! retail is for sure stressful but i think it’s really good to have retail experience before heading to hospital! i wish you the best of luck and let me know if you need help with anything ❤️
@@mayal8152 Sure, for me it wasn't the right fit. I have been in some form of customer service for 20 years, and the position I had was working alone in a cubicle. I like interacting with people and felt a change was in order. Not all medical billing and coding is alone, I'm sure there are tons with interaction, but it was a change I wanted. And the store I am at now is crazy busy (even without covid). Its non-stop and for me it's great. I didnt go to school to be a pharm tech so it's a lot to learn very quickly but I like it much more than sitting all day.

So I work retail as a pharmacy tech. I can’t express how Stressful it is. How’s the hospital? I want to leave very very bad. Everyday I fight myself to get up and go. With a new pharmacist everything went downhill and with a horrible DM, nothing goes smooth. There are days where I just want to up and leave. Just last week was when I had had it with him. I plan on going to the hospital next but I figured it be a little harder but less stressful? What’s it like?
I’m having the same exact issue, I def feel like I’m getting underpaid in retail. Hospital just seems like a better option in general cuz retail sucks. Being underpaid and then having to deal with corporate, rude customers, dm and managers pushing us to meet numbers is so overwhelming and definitely not worth the stress.
hi jay, i’m sorry your going through that. it all sounds way too relatable from when i was in pharmacy at cvs. i’m going to be making a video on this and how i handled stressors being at retail. hospital is completely different, even management wise. alot less stressful in my experience
Can I ask how much communication is required or what Doctors and staff go to you for advice regarding? I used to be a Scientist and looking for a better work/life balance. I have Autism so communication skills may be a bit difficult. Thank you.
I’m curious! I noticed I didn’t see you fill any medication. Is that something you don’t technically have to do ?? Is this a certain position you’re doing?
yes exactly! i am a medication history technician at my hospital. I used to fill meds when i worked as a standard pharmacy technician at the hospital. my position is technically a higher position
I don't know which one to choose. I wanted to go for nursing (LPN) but I'm an introvert and have a hard time interacting with combative patients. I recently started thinking about pharmacy tech route. Is this job as tiring and stressing as nursing? Are there many job openings or not really? How many techs are in your hospital? It seems like this is a good job, I know it doesn't pay as much as nursing but it seems to be better in terms of stress and burnout. Nurses are burning out right and left and leaving the profession. I just don't want to end up like that 😩😩
in my opinion, pharmacy tech in retail is extremely stressful. i would go towards the hospital side . hospital can be stressful but it’s a completely different kind of stress and not AS stressful as retail for me. There’s always job openings for pharmacy technicians in my state. I knew a technician making $31 an hour with a few years of experience. Really just depends on where you are, the companies etc
it also might depend on where you work I feel like a grocery store pharmacy or not in a metro area might be a good start and it also depends on your employer. bad boss make work SUCK no matter the situation, it's hard to work with hostility around, creating tension when there is none.
Hey girl! I’m currently a pharmacy tech in training & getting certification through rite aid. Would I be able to even apply to a hospital with that specific experience and certification?! Love your video! :)
Im also planning on getting my certification from rite aid! I’m pretty sure you can because it’s not necessarily “rite aid’s” certification but rather a regular CPT certification; you just happen to be getting hours/experience in to take the exam.
hey!! congrats on being a new tech, i hope you enjoy it ❤️ when you say your getting certification through rite aid do u mean they are paying for u to take ur PTCB? or do you mean your state license?? also, thank you soo much ❤️🥰
@@FloraNovax3 tbh I started getting trained when this whole Covid situation started so it was very stressful because sometimes the other techs are very busy and don’t have time to train you very well.
