Any chance on a follow up video now that it is well into the growing season? I would love to see how the 2 styles have played out for you. Great vid thanks!
We got a great harvest out of both types. I still have some indeterminate cherry tomatoes that are about 11ft tall and producing. Determinants are done at this time of year.
I did the Florida weave with my pepper plants. It seemed to help a lot only you'd rather put a steak for everyone almost
That's a good call.
How much slack do I need to continue wrapping indeterminates as they grow?
Leave a little slack but you do not need much. Also leave some extra string to re-tie if you need more slack.
I tried the vertical string system on the indeterminate tomato’s a couple of years ago. As soon as the first high wind came up I didn’t think this would work. The wind was whipping the tomato plants so bad that I got them caged right away. I live in rural Iowa.
I have never had an issue with wind although we live in two very different places.
So, indeterminate pruned to 1 lead and remove suckers; determinate left bushy but are you still removing suckers?
Yes. Sorry I didn't clarify. I don't prune the determinate at all. Let them get bushy to give you the most fruit.
What is it for?
HI WHAT DO YOU USE FOR GRUBS ? THANK YOU
Where are they in the garden? What are they attacking? I need more context. You can spread diatomaceous earth on the surface and reapply after it rains. If the grubs are underground you will have a hard time getting rid of them.
In what area of east Texas do you live (if you don't mind saying)?
We are in East Texas near Tyler.
Is there a way to look at a tomato plant and tell if it's determinate or indeterminate? Maybe I'm not posing the question correctly, I just want to apply the correct support for them to grow.
You will know by the variety and it should say on the packaging.
@@CountryLivingExperience Most tomato plants that I bought as starts (already grown from seeds) were unlabeled as to determinate or indeterminate. I'm guessing that one could go online and look up the variety and see if it says.
I saw some "plastic bottle" at the bottom of the tomato plant.
Those are to protect young plants from cutworms.
