  • Testing Advanced Elements Advancedframe inflatable kayak on sea, it's also my first time with kayak on sea - brave and stupid, yup, that's me! To be fair I did well and was amazed how it tackled waves and how stable it was, hitting last wave I thought I'm going to capsize, but I didn't. Only issue I had was with Advanced Elements spray skirt, I think 2nd or 3rd wave took it off, with that being said I still managed to keep dry (had no 'proper' clothing). Music reflects how I felt at the time 😅

Hi, the kayak is quite amazing for inflatable one, but I wouldn't recommend it in high winds and big waves. Can I assume you're an Italian? If that's the case the Mediterranean Sea would be good fit for the kayak. I used to paddle on the North Sea (East Coast of England) but only when the sea was calm. Remember - safety first! There are advantages to inflatable kayaks but I prefer rigid ones where I can take it on rough seas 🌊 😉

Great video and perfect music selection! I'm taking my AdvancedFrame out to local lakes for the first time tomorrow, and now I'm looking forward to what I can do in the Atlantic once I retire there in a year or two.

I have both the AF And AF Sport. Always get and use the spray skirt with the AF when encountering waves so you don’t get dumped. Couldn’t tell if you had one in this video. Did it work for you?

Hi, Is Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame stable? I'm a beginner, and I don't know what to get, Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame or Itiwit x500 from Dechatlon? Do you have any recommendations?

    • @pawelboczon

I was really happy with AdvancedFrame,it's super stable, but to be honest at the time I was begginer too, it's great kayak if you are looking for a little bit of fun on water. Obviously it's not meant to be used in rough seas that's why I moved to full rigid sea kayak very quickly. But as far as inflatable kayaks go you can't go wrong with Advanced Elements

@@pawelboczon I use two kayaks; one for white water and one for extensive touring. I plan to purchase an Advanced Elemements kayak for it's utility. I think surf kayaking is much better in warmer weather and water when getting wet is more enjoyable.

Water most likely got in through the zippers. For river kayaking I put a chamois (super-absorbent sports towel etc) to take care of the drips from the paddle, and wring it out every hour or so.

Not sure if you're checking comments on this but here goes! Very interesting vid. Very rarely do you see AE in this country. Was thinking of the advanced frame myself but there are many conflicting views about it's build quality once you ignore the biased sellers vids. You sold it and moved to hard shell. Can I ask why. Also many conventional views are that inflatables (any of them, not just the pool toy ones) are no use in UK sea. My position is living on the coast, tidal speed is rarely over 1 knot but wind is regularly 15 knots plus. Are they correct or is your experience different? At the moment, the advanced frame is selling for £750 whereas it was around $450 last year! So I'm not in any rush to reward the Covid profiteering in any case.

    • @pawelboczon
      @pawelboczon  3 года назад +6

Hi, if you're thinking about this kayak you have to know few things; build quality is very good, they are very durable, I took it to Lake District and was landing on rocks - no damage at all.
These are NOT sea kayaks, as it's inflatable you'll get blown all over place, small waves and it's taking in water like crazy. If you insist in buying it and taking it onto the sea you best stay in calm, windless waters, like coves close to safety.
I moved to hard shell as I wanted to be out in the sea, be able to tackle waves, distance and be able to do multiple day trips and most important, my safety.
After having AE I can say it's a river and lake kayak, it was very stupid of me to take it on the sea.
I know a lot of ppl want inflatable because they don't have storage for rigid kayak, that was the case with me. But if you can rent a space it's worth it.
      Hope that helps.

@@pawelboczon Thanks so much. Brilliant advice. Don't think you were daft going into the sea at all but I'm glad you did it before me! LOL Thinks it's a hard shell then. Bizarrely, cheaper. Now the dilemma is sit in or sit on!

I own an AE Convertible with a backbone for a couple of years now. It is rather good for expeditions on rivers and lakes and as an inflatable you can carry and stow it easily. Took it with public transport to several tours. I wouldn't trust it in open seas with rough swell, though. Although the quality is rather good, it has not the durability of a hard shell.
You can treat the spray deck with water repellent coating, but water will leak through the zippers of the spray deck. Some people use tape to seal the zippers.
I bought mine used and it is in operation for five to six years now without any repairs.
Another point: Cleaning can be time consuming due to the construction. It has a very robust outer hull, a seperate floor and double layered air tubes. This makes it almost impossible to sink. But: the upper part of the hull and the air tubes are covered with textile favric, which takes a bit to dry. As you will get water oftentimes in the boat, you need to dry it very thoroughly. And you should clean it from moisture and salt after taking a trip for longevity and to prevent mould inside the boat.
For rivers and likes, I got an Itiwit X 500. Fraction of the time to setup and you can wipe it with a cloth after the trip and pack it away. The AE Convertible is great for multi day trips or if you want to have children onboard, as it is very hard to capsize.
