Years ago, I had a '09 Corvette Z06 and a '97 Miata. The Z06 was fun on freeway onramps and the Miata was fun on 2 lane country roads. I now have a '21 MX-5 Club in Soul Red. I learned it is a lot more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car, slow.
That is a great comparison. We find that between those two cars, is that the vette is awesome at speed, and the Miata is fun at any speed. Thanks for watching!
I sold my 09 Z06 Corvette, which I loved. I ended up buying an 06 Miata MX 5 from our neighbor, thinking it would be a fun car for my wife. It was her turn being that I’ve owned and raced just about every sport bike made. I’m the one that drives the Miata… And I actually enjoy it more than I did the Corvette. Hard to believe, but it’s true. Everyone asks why and I tell them how much of a drivers car the Miata is. Also, the Corvette was a felony and the Miata a misdemeanor.
It’s not for hipsters and track rats. It’s just a great drivers car. It’s for people that love to drive and rev match. while being reliable affordable great to look at and gets close to 40 mpg.
@rami s Thank you, I was thinking the exact same think. _aS fAr As HiPsTeRs gO hIpSteRs DoN’t WaNT rOaDsTeRs_ Do you even know what you are talking about; not even 2 mins before when you were in the the car you said it’s car for drivers.

Wind noise in the RF is FAR worse than the soft top (with the top open, as it should be) because those buttresses cause an absurd amount of wind buffeting right around your head. I know from experience that it is deafening at higher speeds. This is the main reason I chose the soft top. Plus, if a true roadster experience is important to you, the RF simply won't provide that because it's more a targa than a convertible and rear quarter visibility is compromised as well. All of that said, I really wanted the RF simply because it looks more exotic than the soft top, in my opinion, but the convertible experience of the soft top won in the end.
Phenomenal review, great job adding mechanical/engineering detail that everyone briefly mentions but never shows in detail (likely because they're not as confident in what they're saying about it). Love your comparisons to the other generation Miata's, some interesting comparison points I hadn't heard before. Keep it up with these sorts of reviews and you might find yourself up there with some of the big vehicle review youtubers!
I live out in Utah near the Wasatch Mountains. Miatas are awesome on the roads that go through the mountains because they handle the winding roads really well and the power out of the engine is enough to not slow down while going up. Plus, with the manual you can do lots of engine breaking which is fun while going down.
That is awesome! We have spent alot of time just south of there. We are very jealous of your driving roads. Here in Texas we have to hunt twisty roads. Thanks for watching, -Bryan

Good review and provided differentiated info. A bit curious though….you both sung the cars praises (for good reason) and then ranked it a 6 and suggested it’s for Hipsters and Track Rats?!? Weird. I’m the target demographic….56, life long enthusiast, disposable income that allows me to own it as a 2nd car, ready and willing to accept inconveniences in exchange for a superior driving experience.
Hello, just to clarify the hipster score was a gag that we used early on in our reviews. It is not a ranking of the car itself, it is the ranking of the car in the eyes of a hipster. If you have the means for a Miata please go for it, especially if it is a second car. Sorry for any confusion and thanks for watching!
I disagree with these guys on the headlights... the pop-up is the thing I liked least about the NA It's just one more thing to break... how many time have you seen any car with pop-ups winking at you?
Track rats buy it bc its LIGHT! lightness is EVERYTHING. Equates to cheaper to run, better momentum, connectedness, feel, less wear on literally everything: tires, brakes, fluids, etc... if you've tracked a 3000+ lbs car you'll know the pain of replacing tires and brakes mid season. You cry a little every time. But Miatas, no, they just keep going, as a result, YOU just keep going. It's so light it barely wears any consumables.
Hi Everyone, it is surprisingly hard to confirm if for the north american market the LSD is available on the GT. This video is showing a GT with Bilstein shocks and in the little spin they did, it reacted like it had the LSD....so while I know the Club has it, which GT model has it too ? Cannot configure this detail in the mazda build your own app. thanks
@@TexasTruckChannel Ok so my theory is the following: A manual transmission equipped MX5 Club and GT is getting the LSD + Bilstein + tower brace BUT NOT an automatic. That is probably why the automatic is almost the same price (when we know it is more expensice to produce especially with paddle shifting....so you get the Manual + the perf enhancement OR you get the automatic. Again this is ONLY for Club and GT. Base do not offer LSD and the rest despite manual and they do not offer the paddle shifting in automatic mode. For those wanted sharper performance, the Club is cranking it with the optional Brembo + recarro. I hope I am right because I wanted a GT but with an LSD. So by taking a GT manual, I should get that....which is basically a CLUB + some luxury features (GT)....again ONLY on GT with a stick,. Make sense ?
Well that started really well, with far better informed discussion of the engineering than any other review I've seen. But then you started gibbering witlessly about hairdressers and hipsters and track rats - did you get a brain transplant halfway through?
Better off with an MGB, Z3, Z4 or Alfa Romeo Spider. The ND Miata has no room, seats do not recline back enough, stupid hump on the passenger side floor and no glovebox...this car is an ergonomic mess.
The “glovebox” is there just not in the traditional location, it’s in the center behind the driver. Plenty of room in there and it has a 4.6 cubic feet trunk which is more than enough for ~ 2 weeks food, etc. “Seats do not recline back enough”? Well the MX-5 simply was not built with the typical overweight American in mind yet it is plenty accommodating for the vast majority of people whom are well below ~ 6.3ft tall and ~ 200lbs. At 5’9 / 140lbs. The MX-5 fits almost like a purpose built glove, it’s wonderful. If your much larger you can look at another car but this doesn’t somehow make the MX-5 a sub optimal choice. The MX-5 is only really a sub optimal choice if you are unfortunately too large to probably fit in and enjoy the car. For most people this is not an issue however.
@@erickelly4107 The Miata has been around for 30 years, I would expect that the designers would have figured out how to put a proper glove box, normal cupholders, seats that recline back further, no hump on the passenger side floor and a windshield not too close to your head. @@bigmacdaddy1234 Figure it out? You and a TINY minority are disappointed that the “seats don’t recline back far enough for your liking” the other complaints you have are equally as ridiculous.
